Surveillance video shows a tornado moving through Andover, Kansas, on April 29. Andover Fire Chief Chad Russell said some homes "were completely blown away."
For anyone unaware, this was rated an EF3 and was one of the narrowest on record. Imagine these wind speeds (even higher actually) around a mile wide vortex. Those are the monster tornadoes that flatten entire towns that you really need to watch out for.

one of the greatest pieces of footage I have ever seen of a tornado. This one was extremely photogenic and videos like this, Reed Timmer's Drone Shot and the School CCTV just show how morbidly beautiful this thing is.
This footage is important because it shows how the winds of a tornado work. It doesn't blow things away, like a hurricane or straight line winds. It sucks up debris and then uses it like a missile.
two small trees were plucked out but the left white van and green roofs seemed undamaged and NOT sucked in? i think i might be able to survive this particular see through tornado, if i held onto a pole ?

@@CalebDell, yes, it was pretty amazing; most likely attributable to excellent meteorology and warning systems, as well as the fact that it was light outside. I just checked, and there were only four injuries, none of which were critical. Damage was very heavy, though, affecting around 1000 buildings, many of which were destroyed

I’d say they’ve gotten less frequent tornadoes than the past. Tornado activity has shifted somewhat to the east, and the west has gotten dryer.

If you compare how it looked like at the beginning of the footage towards the end, you can see how much of the vegetation was stripped away.
