This airline has small planes. Basically it is a Boeing 737 and Soviet-made aircraft.
I flew them 2 weeks ago from RIX to MSQ and return. They discontinued the sandwich / coffee or tea service on that 50 minute flight (they still had it 1 year ago). Now you get a choice of 3 juices, but still not horrible for a 45 - 50 minute flight. Crew was friendly and smiled and I would fly them again.

i don't know i never flew with them - and just couldn't make an opinion watching this.

I miss the time when Belavia used to fly from Gatwick to Minsk. That was the route we were taking when I was younger to see my extended family. I'm sure I flew on another 737-300 in Belavia's fleet, and Embraers too.

Belavia's fleet will be totally updated by 2021. Embraers and 737 MAX will replace classic 737-300/500. And your 737-300 was the oldest plane in Belavia. Nice review, mate.

Buying 737 MAX is the very very bad idea! Better order MC-21 instead.

Not anymore. US sanctions prevent new 738M's from being delivered.
I have always had good experiences on Belavia. And, on each flight they serve the sandwiches and coffee! The Minsk Airport (MSQ) has become a maze of duty free shops. There are locations for charging ones phone and there are other coffee shops in the gate areas. I also find it a relatively comfortable airport. On the land side, check in is usually efficient and painless. Thanks for a good trip report.
My flight with this airline was amazing from Minsk to Bulgaria. Very nice flight attendants, best airline food I have ever tasted. Overall great experience! :)

Did the same route a few years ago going from Kiev to Moscow via Minsk, Belavia was actually quite good, initially got confused with the transfer in Minsk and had to race to my flight but it was enjoyable.
Congratulations to you! You have become one of the last passengers of this plane! Since the end of January 2019, this aircraft has been flying to Mongolia in a cargo airline. My channel has a lot of videos about flying Belavia planes.
Belavia are fantastic - you would not have told the aircraft was so old. A shame that it is relegated to flying cargo now! Thanks for watching Alex!
@@noelphilips Soon Belavia will replace older Boeing 737 classics for a new МАХ8. I think it's good. I on all 737-300 Belavia was flying and on one 500. I 737МАХ to fly. Sorry for my bad English. )
Your English is a thousand times better than my Russian :) A shame to see these old workhorses go, but the -800s are a nice aircraft, and Belavia are a lovely airline.
I like Belavia. No problems, always on time, always smooth landings.

Love this report, considering Belavia later this year from Berlin to Minsk. One of the few airlines in Europe that still offer a hot or cold drink and a snack for free, good old BA ditched that 4 years ago! ..... You lucky chap going to Moscow.

I'd forgotten the 300 has that left over wing protrusion from the 200's JT8D
I found the entry process pretty easy and quick when I flew to Moscow in 2013 with easyjet. However my visa which I got in the UK end up costing me over £430. One thing I did notice about russians is that they don't like queuing for anything, they push straight to the front.
The visa process was a bit of a nightmare - took a month for it to come back, and cost a lot of money. The entry in Belarus was complicated but I think that could be because I'd just come from Ukraine, who aren't exactly best buddies at the moment with Russia. In Moscow there was an arbitrary 'You know anyone who lives in Russia?', followed by a 'no', and just waved straight through! Totally agree with the queue thing - you'll see more of that in my coming videos!
A great informative video. I think you have shown that smaller airlines can be just as good as better known ones and are considerably cheaper. :)
Thanks :) Belavia is a good way to get to Russia from Western Europe - it's a lot cheaper than a direct flight with Aeroflot too.

Haha thank you :) I just love flying, I used to be terrified myself (and still am if I don’t get a window to be honest), i ended up learning everything about aviation in an attempt to understand it and now as long as I can see out of the window I’m usually ok :) Nowadays I just love the thrill of flying and riding on such a variety of random airlines - it’s kind of a thrill in its own right :)

being an American (solo traveler) should I have any worries about traveling to Minsk? No trouble what so ever, just want to meet the lovely ladies and enjoy the good food.
I flew Belavia a couple of times St.Petersburg - Minsk - Vilnius and back (on Embraer plane). Positive experience only. In time always, good service.

Oh come on, we're not at that level in Belarus! I'll tell you even that Belavia never had any fatal crashes, and spends a lot on maintenance from qualified personnel (even from other countries). I've flown planes from British Airways and Alitalia which seemed 10 times as flimsy and less well maintained than ours. If there is one thing we don't miss out in the eastern world is quality.

I never flown with Belavia but as far as I know they don't fly long haul and they are not on alliance member.

And a thing I don't get is why is Minsk called National Airport as they have International as well
Thomas Pawley Hello. We used to have Minsk-1 Intl airport, but as it is situated next to the city centre and due to short runway it was closed. So now Minsk has only 1 airport. The reason why airport is called «National» is that it is major country’s airport and almost all flights are operated from here.

How things change. I have been there in 2007 and 2008. At Minsk Airport after security check there was only an old fashioned airport bar, which was really cool and you could buy chocolate biscuits there with the IL86 printed on the package. I think anywhere I still have some of them.
Back in these days the inflight service was a paper bag with a hand made bread roll. Now it seems to be like any other place and service in europe. The special socialist flair of that country seems to be gone.

It’s my full time job now. I fly maybe once or twice a month, filming about 6 flights per trip.

Do many Russians speak English?
Depends where you go. In Moscow, yes, to a certain degree (hotel and airport staff at least). Once you leave Moscow though English is very rarely spoken - and it can be quite a challenge communicating (although Google Translate really helps!)
Little, I am a Muscovite, I know it. However, in our metro speak English too. And in the center there are many maps in English. Welcome to Moscow!!
