@@mechadeka But the point was to become free of Earth and the Earthnoids. Killing them makes you free of them. Because they're dead. IDK if Char predicted that Spacenoids would mutate and become smol.
This channel means a lot to me. This is my go to channel while driving to work during the pandemic. Keep this up Gundam Jesus and you'll be rewarded by likes from all of the gundam fans.
There's an article out there Gen Urobuchi wrote on G-Reco, which he was a huge fan of. He argues that G-Reco is a story about stories, or rather societal meta-narratives constructed towards political ends. Things like "immigrants are taking our jobs" or "group X are an inferior race" that can survive purely as a compelling narrative detached from reality. This is - part - of what makes G-Reco so confusing, the motivations stated by the characters and their factions are intentionally not... fact checked. I watched the series again with this in mind, and while I don't know if Urobuchi is "right" or not his argument made sense with what I was seeing. Luin Lee's story about the Kundata is quite plausibly a myth to assert victimhood and justify his completely unrelated violence in the present. The Capital Army's excuse for existing is a distant threat which never really materializes. The Towasanga faction want retribution against the Earth who barely knows they exists, let alone oppresses them. The assumptions and stories behind SU-Cordism tenets are never questioned, it's a religion so that's pretty obvious. The Venus faction wants to reconquer Earth because of an ideology of superiority, a world they now can barely stand up on due to generations of living in low gravity. The Ameria faction invented an energy crisis conspired by the Capital to justify military action against them, it's not a real thing. There are probably more points that I'm forgetting, however the reality of the Reguild Century is that everything is actually pretty... good. The Earth, Towasanga, Venus Globe, the Kundata -- there's nothing really forcing them to fight on a material level. It's the narratives weaved into the minds of the participants which have invented these conflicts as they are portrayed.
Honestly, that whole thing just came across as a blind fanboy desperatly trying to make this stitched together mess seem like some kind of profound masterpiece rather than accepting that it was a dud.
@@mattesteno one is saying it’s a masterpiece. They’re just saying that it was trying to do something unconventional. Just because it was successful (IF it was successful, which I don’t think so) doesn’t make it good. It’s like death stranding. Whether people GET IT or not, has nothing to do with how dumb it is.
Greco is a rare example of a gundam series better served by just making AMVs with the battle scenes then watched as a story Fuckin awesome gundam designs tho, loved using it as a unit in SRW
When I first got into the Gundam, I watched until G-Reco and dropped after 13 episodes, because I was extremely confused, what and mainly why is something goind on. Currently (few years later) I am trying to check the compilation movies and I am still confused. But I have to admit, mobile suit and spaceship designs are really nice
I'm an old school fan and after the original didn't watch again until Wing. I tried to watch as well and while Wing doesn't hold up like Zeta or 0080/0083, it's Shakespeare compared to G-reco.
I’ve been a huge fan for a long time watching previous shows multiple times and delving into just about all expanded material available in English. G-Reco past episode 5 or so I found to be incredibly hard to follow. It’s a show that oftentimes focuses too much on the minutiae and not the elephant in the room. Characters outright not acknowledging Raraiya recovering from amnesia being a great example. There were times I honestly thought I had accidentally skipped an episode missing an important revelation or piece of character development.
What is the confusion? When I watched it some decisions seemed kind of random but that seemed to be about it. Nations attack each other because of pretty simple reasons, being that Keeping the status quo vs making a better future through change is something present in all corners of the solar system. The only people who don't really follow that is the megafauna, who simply wants to know what's going on and try to help where they can, and Mask who wants to show that his people are strong.
G reco is definitely the most Tomino show in all the best and worst ways, and I actually really enjoyed it! I try to see it as less of a character based story, and more of a narrative that vents Tomino's frustrations with irl political leadership and the, at the time, growing call to militarize Japan. It's not a surprise that every faction leader pushing for war feels almost parodical in nature and that they all end up dead throughout the story. Also how the story ends with Tomino (Tomino voiced the old man in the end) literally telling Bellri and the youth to go outside and touch grass instead of chasing glories of the past.
The context of Japan remilitarizing is EXTREMELY important to understanding why the characters in Reco do some absolutely batshit things. It's Tomino commenting on people who don't know the horrors of war and who haven't considered the implications of war. The show is very literally a product of its time.
@@warmachine5835Japan's military build up isnt exactly happening for no reason though. Its a necessary measure to make sure China and it little minion North Korea cant just do as they please, and I assure you, you do not want China doing as it pleases more than they already do. This also alleviates some of the pressure on the US to commit so many assets to the region. Wish NATO took notes from Japan.
@@majorborngusfluunduch8694 Pretty sure you'd make an excellent character in g-reco! A lot of characters in the show also think that if they don't build weapons and prepare first, they will lose, when the world of g-reco is otherwise peaceful. Not saying you are wrong either. The world definitely is not some peaceful anime land and there will always be conflict and disagreements, but that concept has always been a major theme in Tomino's works. G-reco tries to show the absurdity of war posturing and military build up when there is an entire world to explore and enjoy. (It just does a terrible job of getting the message across and making it enjoyable lol)
@@dianiix3305 G-reco's message is one that only works in G-reco's world because as you said its actually more peaceful than its factions realize. The message comes off as utterly naive and foolish when applied to the real world because its far from peaceful. The situation in Japan's immediate surroundings is turbulent. They have a major superpower playing power games in the region and threatening (and building up) to invade a neighbor, Taiwan. China is known to be committing human rights violations on the daily, so again I'll reiterate, you do not want them having their way. Japan needs to be capable of defending itself against this threat without relying too much on the US which also has to be concerned about the stability of Europe and the Middle East. By the way, even in Tomino's UC this messaging is naive. Should the AEUG not have been formed to fight the Titans? Should the Earth Federation not have responded to Char trying to drop asteroids on the Earth? Usually the main characters have to get that childish mindset pulled out of them for the sake of their own survival and the survival of the ones they care about. They learn that they have to fight for the world they want to live in. This may propagate more conflict but that's just how it goes. War is part of human nature. It can't be abolished. There will always be opposing wills on the macro level, and on the micro level you have people just trying to make it to tomorrow. The idea of "guys lets just throw down our guns and hug it out and enjoy the world" is entirely unrealistic and to be frank I never really took that message from previous Tomino Gundams. The reality is that in order to maintain peace, you must prepare for war.
@@dianiix3305so Tomino is just some naive short bus riding hippie chrom-homie . Gundam Wing EW did the peace thing better, in the sense that you have to fight and protect it. His ideas are third stage we Todd it and too preachy to its detriment.
My head canon is that one day, Tomino went to sunrise with plans for the second cour, and idea for the third and fourth cours, and there was an awkward silence in the room, before one of the executive said "Mr Tomino, this only supposed to last 26 episode". To which Tomino replied "That's a shame, for once in this industry, we are early on production, and already began some key scenes for a lot of episodes". So they had to make the first half with what they already had on development, even if it felt some piece were missing at some point.
Considering it wasn't the first and probably not the last time a Gundam series production got cut down for whatever reason (a recent example being G-Witch's ending feeling like it was rushed, I feel like there was definitely more in store but had to end it in 24 eps), I wouldn't be surprised if that was what happened.
I felt the same way, like half of the episodes are missing, starting around the 12th - I think. The reason I noticed this was an earlier Animax movie called Lamb, which run at the pace you would expect from your standard movie for about 30 minutes, at which point they realized that they run out of budget and only have 10 minutes to finish it, including the end credits. G-Reco feels exactly the same way.
@@OmegaEGGY G-Witch was different, from start it was marketed as a 2 cours as IBO was in its time (25 episodes, more if it works well). IBO had the taste to make a story that could end with first season if you changed the 3 or 4 last episodes. Witch did not. They took their sweet time on side stories, building relationship and school stuff, while failed to build a proper political background. It was clear that spacian had a government with military from the Benerit leader is a former military, but the 3/4 of the series show the benerit group doing what they want without government intervention, as if they didn't matter, then they pop out of nowhere at the end, and are a power that matters, which was never shown earlier. Earth is supposed to be in bad state, we never knew why, then suddenly ther are prosperous cities in the later part. When the series approached its end, they had to rush things to do that worldbuilding that should have been in the first cour. I find the "it's rushed at the end" critique slightly off. The element that lead to that rushed ending was there from early, and some of the viewers pointed it many times during cour 1. The show did an awful world at worldbuilding. The balance of power doesn't matter for 3/4 of the show, so it's barely exposed, but when it suddenly matters at the end if feels like things are rushed, because it's element we never got (and mean, it's gundam show, we all knew it would matter at the end). I often says that the 3 first minutes of 00 makes a better job at depicting the settings of the show that the whole Witch show. My point is, Witch was not cut short. it was always marketed as a 2 cours, and just wasn't renewed as IBO was. From the first reveal to the end of the show, there was no official declaration that indicated a third cour. The rushed ending of WfM is on the team, that could not use it's time well enough to pace its story well in 24 episodes. They did some things very well, but miserably failed in other areas.
@@OmegaEGGY they always said it was a 2 cour. Not "only 2 cours", but 2 cours. People assumed it could be more, but there was never any declaration in that sense (or in the opposite).
The one issue with G-Reco. It brings up so much that ranges from interesting to WTF! Then proceeds to just brush past it to the next thing, like they didn't just open a can of worms that demands every explanation as to what in the cosmos we just witnessed. If it was at least twice as long and really played with the motivations and happenings, and dragged you along in the intrigue, it could be way up there.
I will say with G-Reco: The movies are a far better experience for it. The changes are small, but do a lot to help the pacing and story. THis includes impacting and adjusting Bellri's character.
I absolutely adore G Reco. It's definitely a little carried by the art direction for me, but i really like how it gives you all the pieces of this setting and you have to puzzle everything together. I've watched through a couple times and even through this video some things clicked that i missed. I think it's a show with a strong sense of freedom, if that makes sense. And again, i love every design in this show
Reconguista In G is like a bunch of autistic and stubborn people being autistic and stubborn with each other until the conflict ends as if it has never happened. Oh and Belri is a nice character, I wouldn't want to stay with Noredo either, considering that she tried to kill his sister with a military slingshot by "being too lewd"... While falling from a collapsing building!
Fun fact 2 - Sunrise says it's after Turn A (which makes more sense) and that dark century between UC & RG is the Turn A timeline While Tomino is saying G-Reco goes first then the Turn A ---- Making the Zaku's that they dug in Turn A old as F. Imagine, the one year war when the Zakus were introduced then until the end of UC timeline, then 1000 years in to the RG time line of G-Reco then again until RG timeline/era ends. Then the Turn-A timeline kicks in. Making the those Zaku's thousands of years old
I thought it was the other way around? Also imo Turn A is such a perfect ending to Gundam as a series that I'd prefer G-Reco to take place before it in my head. It makes more sense to me as well, unless the Dark History becomes more well known after Turn A, but then the Venus Globe and Towasanga are built but somehow forgotten about...
Definitely agree on how confusing this series is. The story was such a jumbled mess that it made it really difficult to get through this show. Compared to ZZ, 00, Turn A, or IBO, which I just instantly binged, G Reco was such a pain to get through
This is a series I struggled with and gave up on after about 5 episodes. Thank you for going through that pain for us! As always, this another compelling video that I've already watched or listened to 4 or 5 times. I mean, there's a reason I've been a member of your channel for over a year now. Much love man! ❤
Wow if we found out that at one point in time humans were actually forced into normalized cannibalism and our entire society had to at one point subside on human flesh therefore possibly making several of our ancestors at that time cannibals I think a lot of society would completely break down at that revelation. I did not expect to see something like that in Gundam.
i think its easy to be confident that one of your ancestors was a temporary cannibal, be real, one of them ate a limb at some point. sustained cannibalism is just inane though. i doubt many people withe european blood have that history, maybe south americans, idk
Fun fact: the old guy in the sun hat at the end of the series is actually anime Tomino. Found that out in an SRW video then had it confirmed in the wiki
I must be one of the few people who actually likes Reco in G. Partly because it reminds me so much of King Gainer. And much like that show, the story feels like it was written to be twice the length of the show. It's sad that this Gundam is such a mess, the visuals are stellar and it has this strange "heart" to it. Like it feels like the ending, "G no Senkou", was written before the show was made and Tomino just wrote an entire world around it. there's this weird whimsy to everything and while much of it is really convenient and the good guys always win there's this almost "life" like feel of "dealing with challenges as it comes to you". It's just a very weird show, as if it was meant to be Tomino's "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" but fell completely short of being it.
I just saw a few clips of Gundam Seed Freedom making the rounds, so this is good timing. I personally loved G-Reco, it's what I can only describe as "heartfelt insanity." It had a lot to say and wanted to say those things at whatever pace it wanted, and I respect that.
The funny part about G Reco at that time didn't realized that it competes with Build Fighter Try, and I remember more people talked about Try than G Reco. G Reco has a head start since it got two episode premiere while Try only got one, but I ended up anticipate Build Fighter Try more despite of its simplistic story and premise. I guess that result would explain Bandai later series to Build Diver and then Metaverse while side lines IBO and then WFM.
I'm 95% certain that the reason why the G-lucifer has the moonlight butterfly is the same reason the G-self can do all kinds of inexplicable BS throughout the series. The Rose of Hermes they talk about and never, ever explain is in fact the pilot manual from the Turn A Gundam, and all the super dangerous technology that's driving the plot is derived from it. When the manual for the G-self appears on screen it looks identical to the Turn A's Manual, except that it is a paper book instead of a tablet. Tomino has confirmed in an interview that this story is intended to take place after Turn A Gundam.
It could just as easily be the other way around and I'm inclined to believe it is given that literally everything else suggests that it takes place before Turn A
I really wanted to like Reconguista, this was the last time that it had the" Old school" feel and was animated like the older shows and was not relying more on CGI and had unique mecha designs for better or for worst. Alas...it just feels like Tomino either just lost his damn mind or having another build Gundam air at nearly the same time and take half the episodes this show needed screwed it over forever. Maybe we will never know...did the OVA's make the plot clearer? Eh, funny enough, its true that Bellri did seem to have it to easy, though, he seemed to struggle more then his successor in Gundam Mercury...but that's a debate for another time I suppose. Best of luck with a productive summer.
Gundam Reconguista in G is one of my favorite gundam animes. I like the characters, designs, story. But I also completely agree with all of the points you made. Still It's one of my favorites, because I personally think it's the most unique of all gundams, although it being so confusing might help it stand out. Plus I'm not too critical of anything I watch unless I absolutely hate it. Which is almost non existent. It's a fun watch for sure, even if you are confused but as long as you like the designs/characters and fights, you will have a good time. Bellri is a very interesting protagonist to me, I agree that he seems almost invincible at times. But I still feel like he was a good pilot as we've seen that just because you have a gundam, doesn't mean you can't be beaten. He did hold his own against multiple talented pilot's and even those two mobile armors that had insane attacks. A beam tree that almost branches out infinitely and one that attacks with centipedes. Both attacks being almost impossible to avoid for regular pilots. And If I remember correctly more hints are shown in other media that kind of points to him being a newtype. But I don't want to mention specifically what as that's spoilers. I haven't watched the movies yet, just some clips on youtube. But they seem to maybe fix some plot holes and graphicly update the entire show. Along with a just slightly different ending, I would say it more just makes certain things happier? Don't want to mention specifically what I mean again, But I wish I could. But I won't. I forgot that the doctor lady was like 3 or 4 feet tall. I guess I was more blindsided by the macular female doing pull ups in her mobile suit (so cool) and the female captain of one ship whos in a romantic relationship with one of her own men whos like I think 5 years older then her. Although I might be lowballing that. And after watching him die, just sends herself and her crew knowingly into there deaths. Not that I really mind either of these characters, I was just blindsided by them. There were some interesting names in this series. Rockpie being one of them. I did hate that Bellri's friend becomes absorbed with revenge. I wish he accepted and moved forward with his life. But that's just how it goes sometimes, I still like him even though as you said. He is a huge jerk. I feel like Bellri could have his 50th birthday party and Luin would show up, start going ham on the cake, laugh then leave. He really needs to put all that stuff that happened before he was born behind him. He's got a lover, no need to bring that into his future home. Is he going to instill in his child the dream to get revenge on Bellri's kid as well and continue the grudge? In this scenario anyways. I couldn't believe the leader of that group that tried to take over the crescent moon ship, pretty much got himself killed. At least he took responsibly for his actions and plugged the hole. I still wish he could've lived for his future child. (they mention his lover who was also a part of the group is pregnant with his kid) Seems like a horrible move to put you're wife on the front lines, but I guess he didn't always look to far ahead when doing stuff. All in all, I do really enjoy this specific gundam show and I was happy to listen to you're review of it. Now when I finish Gundam wing, I shall go watch that review as well.
Glad to here IBO is a fav of yours. I really enjoyed it and was surprised to hear that it was not well loved Also every time you said Space Pope in this video I thought of Futurama
I remember this was the first "real" gundam series that was coming out after I got into the series by playing Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 and watching only Char's Counterattack and about to dive into Seed and Zeta (i was just grab bagging around the while franchise unaware of really where to go lol) I watched Build Fighters week to week and it was really fun so I was excited to see the real series was gonna be like... and I dropped it around episode 10 lol. Bright side is Im still an ardent fan of the franchise... at least tue suits are pretty fun as most Gundam designs are.
1:50 that explains why I found the ost when Bellri fights the Mack Knife so similar to when Jotaro fights Dio, mainly the choir sounds very close. Such good music in both of these shows.
For me Reoconguista in G is a mixed bag(the series anyway) the production values and music are top notch and the story elements presented are legit interesting but its pacing is it's biggest flaw, I think this was a series meant to be a full series rather than 26 episodes because it seams Tomino was given a short time frame to get all of the story threads out. Its simular to gundam F91 for me, I really like what it brings to the table but just didn't have the time and space it needed of what it could have been. That being said the mobile suit designs are really great, the g self in particular is a really great unique take on a gundam, I would love to see that one get a master grade.
I loved g reco, but I have an infinite threshold for confusing and sparse information so I understand it not being too popular. I mostly like seeing Yoshiyuki's style reach it newest point, and the art and animation of Gundam is always pushing the bar further forward.
Go whatever pace feels right! Here for the content whenever it comes out. I hope you get to zoid's New century zero. Definitely more of a problem of the week type show but love the characters and designs.
I was really looking forward to you getting to this series. So I can finally learn what it's about 😂. I tried to watch it when it came out & it was so bad, I dropped it super quick. I was really disappointed because this came out after Gundam Age, which I didn't like. So ti was two series in a row for me.
New to the channel but have been binging it! I enjoyed gundam anime as a kid and would check back in periodically but was held back by how confusing it could get. I really appreciate the breakdowns of the series so I can finally make sense of something I always liked but was kept from fully enjoying due to not getting everything! Thanks
I got into this one from the Super Robot series and I guess having got the story though the game before watching the anime made me enjoy this more. It's not my least favourite, that's probably SEED,
As someone who loves G-Reco a lot, I can at least say you did a job well done at getting down the main events of the plot and factions down. But honestly, almost all the times where you concluded "and this is what makes it bad" I just disagreed with. Especially on the complexity of the setting or the self-serving nature of each faction, I felt those were great elements in the show. And especially disagreed on just writing off the cast as one note. To be honest, sitting through 50 minutes of someone trashing a show I like was honestly just a bit disappointing. Oh well.
I watched G-Reco via the compilation movies and while the added scenes and changes did make it a bit more coherent, in the end it’s the same story that is like drinking through a firehose of information. Hell I didn’t even catch the Kuntala explanation on my watch through and wow is that dark for like, no reason. Overall they’re widely regarded as a better experience of the series, even if ultimately it ends in more or less the same place. Great review, you can definitely miss things in G-Reco so you emphasizing those points is definitely appreciated!
Yea, while the movies helped Belliri's character, they did not help the rest of the plot. While some things were clearer or fixed, others were even more confusing with sudden cuts and the like.
I genuinely believe G-Reco is a straightforward story once you realize none of the armies aren’t really the focal point of the show. The message of the show is to see things for yourself. After realizing none of the armies really care about each other’s causes and only want what’s good for them, Aida decides to lead the megafauna to travel to Towasanga and Venus Globe to find out the truths of the world. By the end of the show the warmongers are gone and the Megafauna is a ship that recruited people from every major part of the Regild Century. Tomino’s recurring theme of understanding is at it’s best in this show and it’s why it’s my favorite show of his. The various armies are full of morons waging pointless wars that lead to nothing with dangerous weapons they barely know the full extent of. They are a part of G-reco because they show the contrast between 4 divided factions vs 1 united faction (the Megafauna). To make the show as simple as possible, Reconguista in G is about space hippies going on a road trip around the world in an effort to understand it, picking up various people from different cultures as they travel.
I honestly Doubt Tomino has any idea what “True Understanding” looks like. He preaches it, but never in the original UC Timeline, nor in his “Char’s Counterattack” movie was Understanding ever used. Sure, some grasp of a Character’s Motivations and the Conflict between the goals is brought up! But he often Flops or Flounders whenever he has the chance to get the characters to sit down and actually talk! He always has to throw some wrench, Create unnecessary Drama, or completely have characters misread a situation and then cause unnecessary Death upon another character! There are too many instances of this in most of his projects.
I watched the movies and enjoyed them, but damn I wish they gave the viewer time to breathe, I had to pause each movie multiple times to catch my breath. I wish it was split into 50 episodes... I've heard that Tomino said he felt he couldn't do a 50 episode series anymore (he WAS turning 73 when this aired), so it seems like he crammed 50 episodes into 26 while cutting out very little. Actually, Brain Powerd and Overman King Gainer have similar reputations and also only have 26 episodes. Perhaps Tomino is too ambitious for a 26 episode series and needs 50 for his series to be comprehendable. Still gonna watch everything he directed at some point, definitely check out Zambot 3. I remember one line about some sort of energy ring in space, and I wonder if that was referring to the ring around the Earth at the end of Char's Counterattack. If you think G-Reco is confusing, check out Ring of Gundam, also by Tomino. It's your least favourite Gundam show SO FAR. Build Divers might take that spot.
I watched G reco before watching this reivew as I've been finishing Gundam shows I havent yet watched. For context I started 10ish years ago in Highschool. This show has a lot of cool ideas but is so frustrating to. Bellri comes off really high and mighty at times when he comes to terms with killing people but then will just let so many people die before doing something. The Manny/Luin fight against Bellri almost felt meta with both asking Bellri for once not have something go his way. I really wished the characters were fleshed out and given more time to care. Not an awful show but man disappointing. I feel like Victory was the hardest for me to finish along with Seed Destiny lol
G-Reco was probably the hardest Gundam for me to sit through, and I watched thr 5 movie version! The animation, mech designs, and soundtrack were fantastic but everything else was a complete trainwreck to me.
this honestly feels like gundam fire emblem Ringo went from a red unit to a blue unit by talking to him with the right party member and no one bats an eye
Huh, is that how it went? I remember watching it and I'd have sworn up and down that I didn't finish it except I've definitely seen that bit where the ultimate antagonist is just accidentally punted off a cliff. I wish this had a better plot, as you said everything else about the show is amazing.
Fun fact 1, there's a tie in game where Mask was asked to pilot a remake of Unicorn Phenex from the Rose of Hermes Blueprint. I just can't remember if it's Black or silver instead of Gold
That's not a game. It was a short that aired in Gundam Front Tokyo. It used their big screen that they had that they had; in fact, they aired a bunch of shorts using it at night.
@@fakesmile172 of course it's the worst bait you've ever seen, a fact will never be a bait, so a "fact" will always be a worse "bait" than a real bait!
My thoughts on the Kuntala situation is that basically somebody took Johnathan Swift's Modest Proposal seriously. Yes, a temporary solution to a potential food shortage, but really all about getting rid of "undesirables".
didnt like i all that much when compared to other Gundam Series, but it has my favorite art styles in all of Gundam, maybe a rewatch will change my mind
I barely got to 7 episodes before tuning out. The mech designs I didn't like, the characters, plot, etc. They were just all over the place. The animation was its main strength.
I'm gonna differ with you on this one with regard to its rating compared to Victory. At least G Reco didn't make me hate all of the characters and every plot point for being stupid, stupid, stupid. I really liked the mobile suit designs for the most part. The G-Self is extremely underrated IMO... up there with the Turn A in terms of power and cool design. Plus, and I can't believe you didn't mention this, it has a toilet built into the pilot seat. Yes, the story is a jumbled mess, but much like Turn A (the series this time), it has this weird vibe that's distinct from all other Gundam shows. I don't think that's a coincidence. I suspect Tomino was trying to convey a theory about how humanity would evolve in the far, far distant future... that conflict would still exist, but it wouldn't be as driven by hate, bloodlust, and carnage as our current understanding of war is... again, that's just the impression I get from Turn A and G Reco. I could be completely off the mark, but it explains the oddly passive relationship the characters in those shows have with conflict.
i feel the series had a lack of time o so much things to fit , when i saw i needed to read a lot to understand, and with this video well fills a lot of gaps. and the movies are doing a good job fixing the series, is not magic, but is better.
I always felt like an outlier because I love G-Reco and hate IBO. I feel like the episode structure for IBO is bad, but I understand that G-Reco races like a cheetah.
For me, I enjoyed G-Reco despite its flaws, although I did watch the much improved movie version instead of the TV version. It was also really beautiful, especially with the movie version. IBO on the other hand was just okay to me, I liked what I watched but not much more than that.
This right here is why I really appreciate what you do on this channel.i hadn't watched this series yet because I hate the design of the MS all of them the best looking suits are still ehhhh at best.I was hoping the story would be able to distract from the eye sore that is the G- self but nope.Still not as bad as Gundam age though I loathe that stain on the franchise , but I digress thank you from one grateful mecha fan.
Dropped this by episode 6. Mind you, I usually give an anime 3 ep before deciding wether to continue watching or not. Just like this video said, it's too confusing. I like the Gundam though. Perfect Pact is sexy af.
Reconguista In G was the first Gundam show that I watched and considering it was a anniversary celebration show, I was hyped to see something really good... And I did get it on the technical aspect! The anime is just beautiful, brimming with personality (and some really weird traits that make it unique) and takes place mostly in Brasil (é nois carai), which I loved. But, the story was offensively hard to understand. The dialogue seems disjointed at many times, character's actions being totally random at some points (like Noredo almost killing Bel's sister with a military slingshot because part of her body was exposed... When falling from a collapsing building!) The emotional tone of some many scenes being totally random too. It's like it tried to be a anti-war performatic spectacle, but forgot that it needs a proper story to do so. I don't care about the "status quo" being maintained because no one really was being hurt by it, people were mostly chill, their lives were quite comfortable, people miraculously managed to get a balance on the advancing so they don't nuke themselves into oblivion again and the only ones that actually wanted to change things were warmongering hienas that just wanted to turn Earth into a barren hellscape one more time... And got what they deserved in the end. Oh and that Venus captain was one of the most bizarre to me, because it is a dude with zero motivation, zero explanations, zero charisma, dies by the most stupid way possible and that seemingly passed his **** on all of his crew, considering how all of them speak of him as if he was their lover (and one of them even was pregnant of him WTF)! Honestly, Reconguista In G seems like a bunch of autistic and stubborn people being autistic and stubborn with each other until the conflict ends in the most weird way possible, as if it has never happened.
Do they make no mention of the Jupiter Energy fleet in this show? What happened to them after the end of the U.C.? Ik the Jupiter Empire was defeated in Crossbone, but I could see them being set up again as the “space invaders.” As well
I need some help. I over the years have enjoyed the Gundam franchise very much but the one I like the most is Gundam 00. I buy the full series like I did with black Lagoon and other Anime piller Programs but I am finding a big Issue. Trying the DVD's or Blue ray is not an easy task when you wish to get all the programs in the right order. I have no need to spend more then is needed. I just need some help to get the right items for what I can spend. Thanks Drew.
Hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it, but I'm wondering if the Kuntala were perhaps inspired by or a reference to H.G. Wells' The Time Machine, where it is implied that the Eloi, who spend all day lounging about eating fruits, are perhaps in turn eaten by the Morlocks, who live underground and have an entire technologically advanced society underground. Both races are thought to be descendants of far future humans, evolving in different ways. Kinda surprised you hadn't mentioned that Tomino claims (I believe in an interview) that G-Reco takes place after Turn A in the timeline, despite numerous contradictions with hard dates on the timeline for both series (such as Reglid being 1000 years post-UC while Turn A takes place in CC 2345) as well as the worldbuilding. The more I reflect on his shows and writing the more I determine that Tomino is wrong about them lol

Tomino said that one of the themes of G-Reco is to criticize Japan's desire for rearmament.
(Google it you lazy American asshats.)
Gonna re-watch the movies with this in mind. Thank you for that.
I felt like a solo lunatic for having a somewhat similar take away when i first watched this show back during its original airing.
Greco is a rare example of a gundam series better served by just making AMVs with the battle scenes then watched as a story
Fuckin awesome gundam designs tho, loved using it as a unit in SRW
“The Illuminati, but science based.” Oh, so, like… the actual historical Illuminati from the renaissance! Cool :)
Or the Illuminati from Marvel
@@Lanhalt2 wth, that's the first time I've heard it was marketed as a 2 cours
The fact that they removed the "I am a genius! Oh no!" scene from the movies ruined them for me.
@@warmachine5835 and "What's an island doing over there?"
Fun fact 2 - Sunrise says it's after Turn A (which makes more sense) and that dark century between UC & RG is the Turn A timeline
While Tomino is saying G-Reco goes first then the Turn A ---- Making the Zaku's that they dug in Turn A old as F.
I refuse to believe that G-Reco comes after Turn A.
Definitely agree on how confusing this series is. The story was such a jumbled mess that it made it really difficult to get through this show. Compared to ZZ, 00, Turn A, or IBO, which I just instantly binged, G Reco was such a pain to get through
My favorite Gundam designs, full stop.
When you started this series, this was one of the ones I was looking forward to hear about.
Your line about the 10 Police is repeated in the video, might want to trim that
so that would be 20 police?!? 🤣
King Gainer adds to this show a lot

Glad to here IBO is a fav of yours. I really enjoyed it and was surprised to hear that it was not well loved
Also every time you said Space Pope in this video I thought of Futurama
I remember this was the first "real" gundam series that was coming out after I got into the series by playing Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 and watching only Char's Counterattack and about to dive into Seed and Zeta (i was just grab bagging around the while franchise unaware of really where to go lol)
I watched Build Fighters week to week and it was really fun so I was excited to see the real series was gonna be like... and I dropped it around episode 10 lol.
7:45 ...What the hell was Tomino smoking when he made this?
The one everyone forgets about
Chooses to forget about
Feels like a bible story... with gundams
You did the Lords work making sense of the unfathomable G-Reco. I would have given up
Boy those character designs sure look a lot like Eureka 7 AO and the movies
Technically they look like Turn A and King Gainer, those came first, but all of those have the same character designer.
@@briansilva3765 Yea clearly the artist is very passionate about working on mecha series
Can’t wait for the G-Witch and SEED Freedom retrospectives, honestly loved both of them so much

I’m pretty late, but will you ever one day talk about Dunbine pretty much the very first almost ever Isekai and it is a Mecha series, which is cool
He has a review for it already 😂
I watched this weekly as it came out. The mech designs were really weird and cool. I still have no idea what happened or why.
While watching this series me and my friends used to make a joke like "They used to eat us" cuz of oddly how infrequent that is brought up.
Thanks for more of the best gundam content!
I feel like Victory was the hardest for me to finish along with Seed Destiny lol
i wish i could love g reco because it’s very stunning to look at but i just never knew what was happening
I just finished the whole playlist and I need more -.-
If you saw the compilation movies, there's an extra bit at the end where Noredo and Bellri end up together.
G-Reco was probably the hardest Gundam for me to sit through, and I watched thr 5 movie version! The animation, mech designs, and soundtrack were fantastic but everything else was a complete trainwreck to me.
this honestly feels like gundam fire emblem
Ringo went from a red unit to a blue unit by talking to him with the right party member and no one bats an eye
I have watched the show, I have watched this retrospective. I still have not a single clue what the heaven was going on in the show.
I love the art style of this show.
To be perfectly honest though, what I'm waiting for more is for you to talk about THAT sequence in Hathaway's Flash.
Huh, is that how it went? I remember watching it and I'd have sworn up and down that I didn't finish it except I've definitely seen that bit where the ultimate antagonist is just accidentally punted off a cliff. I wish this had a better plot, as you said everything else about the show is amazing.
Finally, I understand this series.
Kuntala would probably be like Soylent Green, the food wafers made from people processed after death
I haven't watched this yet but before doing so I will outrightly say that this is the 2nd best gundam show, only bested by seed destiny
Worst bait I've seen
@@fakesmile172 of course it's the worst bait you've ever seen, a fact will never be a bait, so a "fact" will always be a worse "bait" than a real bait!
I have watched G-Reco and it's my favorite!
@@kakizakichannel BASED
I'm afraid War in the Pocket and Turn A clears...
My thoughts on the Kuntala situation is that basically somebody took Johnathan Swift's Modest Proposal seriously. Yes, a temporary solution to a potential food shortage, but really all about getting rid of "undesirables".
Can you do Fafner Dead Agressor Trilogy Please ?
Yes Sir!
Steer is the most beautiful Gundam waifu.
didnt like i all that much when compared to other Gundam Series, but it has my favorite art styles in all of Gundam, maybe a rewatch will change my mind
No…a rewatch won’t.
Ive watch like 10 mim of this series and quit. After watching you excelent review, in glad i did.
I barely got to 7 episodes before tuning out. The mech designs I didn't like, the characters, plot, etc. They were just all over the place. The animation was its main strength.
Aida being hot carried the show for 3 episodes for me then I can't kept on
I'm gonna differ with you on this one with regard to its rating compared to Victory.
Did I hear duiletst of the roses' sound track??👀👀
i feel the series had a lack of time o so much things to fit , when i saw i needed to read a lot to understand, and with this video well fills a lot of gaps.
and the movies are doing a good job fixing the series, is not magic, but is better.
Ah my favorite DragonBall z character: president Zuchinni
This right here is why I really appreciate what you do on this channel.i hadn't watched this series yet because I hate the design of the MS all of them the best looking suits are still ehhhh at best.I was hoping the story would be able to distract from the eye sore that is the G- self but nope.Still not as bad as Gundam age though I loathe that stain on the franchise , but I digress thank you from one grateful mecha fan.
7:38 Ngl, I'm already rooting for the space pirates...
😂 this is the best description for Greco I ever heard.
I like how they remade this into a 5 part movie series and didn't fix anything at all
Woooo! Here we go!
Watching this because I have no idea where the hell to watch this series 🙂
All this made me do was buy more gundam. Thank 😮💨
I'm very curious now about the compilation movies. Do they actually make the story comprehensible? Maybe they'll be the preferred way to watch it.
Some very epic in-depth gundam goodness thank U dude 🤟😎
Any update on the zoids chaotic century video?! Thought it was gonna be out in mid May 😢
