The difference between an artist and any other person is having the imagination needed to visualize something which does not yet exist, and the ability to bring it into reality. It's a great gift to be able to look at a log of wood and immediately have ideas for what it could potentially become with the right treatment.
Love the design. When I saw the piece was assembled with a hole in the middle, I thought, well, it can only be a lamp base. Then you inserted the plug. Good video story-telling, with a twist.
It's the rare and beautiful chocolate-striped urn. The grain patterns are beautifully managed and the classic simplicity of the shape lets the wood do the talking. There are wood turners all over the world shaking their heads at their own stupidity and trying to work out why they never thought of that. Your use of mixed and contrasting wood is one of your hallmarks and I love it.
I try not to look at comments before watching you as I want the outcome to be a surprise. I also try not to pick up much from the title (though that can be impossible!) Sometimes I can guess, but when you start with strips like this, I know it's going to be a tough one! I also know it's going to be awesome because I can't work out how you can picture the final work with mixed woods sometimes. Yes, some shapes will be obvious but others couldn't be further away! It was pretty close to the end when I stopped dithering between two things and picked one (I was right, yay!) Beautiful wood and your awesome skills turn out a real work of art, no matter the technique.
At my high school we use a BBQ brush to spread the wood glue around (the ones used for spreading the BBQ sauce around) , It works great and gets even coverage. Nice video, keep on being safe!
It made a lovely vase, the stripes are striking but not going to lie, when I saw the blank in the screen shot I hoped it was going to be a ring goblet, the captive rings amaze me every time.
Really nice, Andy. Great effect, too. Plus we had a chance to see some of your other skills in the prep work. However, I'm always suspicious of anyone whose shop is so clean (just kidding). Mine certainly isn't. Bill
Wow, incredibly done! Love the way you lined up the grain on the wenge. Absolutely stunning result. Like the hollow core to not waste wood either! Genius. Thanks for sharing. I know what my wife is getting for our anniversary...🤐
Oh Andy, what a stunning piece!!! I just love the every thing about the one.Especially the lip on the top before the opening. I love those little touches. Love your work big man!!!
Beautiful, Andy, I have never been disappointed by a video of yours. Lovely combination of timbers (I am a sucker for Wenge), and a very elegant form. Thank you!
I think 'elegant' is a better word than 'simple' for this one. I love how you take what another wood worker might consider a fairly fancy pieced construction, you make something lovely (of course), and you are like...Hey, that little project turned out nicely! 😂
Once again Andy you have smashed it out of the park!! I sit here literally mesmerised from start to finish when you switch on the power. I wish i was able to knocked up something half as good as you do. Although i do fear i would be a finger or two short if i could! Great work again!! I look forward to the next one mate. 👌
Andy, you have done another beautiful vase/urn. The 2 woods compliment each other perfectly with opposite colours and magnificent grains. Finished off as usual with perfection. Loved this one heaps. Thanks for sharing
Hi Andy what a magnificent urn the chocolate stripes are really lovely well done with all your hard work you really are a masterwoodturner come crafter. Thanks for a fantastic video yet again I enjoy watching your videos all the time. The woods you used have nice grain in them and the really show up when you put the finish on the urn at the end. Amanda xx
At 6.55 I was reminded I have my 6 month dental check up in a weeks time 😳 That aside, what a beautiful result Andy. When looking at a finished product it’s easy to underestimate the long process of preparation ♥️
The matching grain of the wenge pieces is the cherry on top of this elegant piece
Morning Andy ☕😊...Stunning!!!😍
Have a nice weekend.
Good morning! Thanks Kat

Ho hum. It's Friday and another masterpiece. Thank you sir!
Aaah. Mesmerising and what a turn it turned out to be.

The care you put into getting the grain to match in the dark wood makes this piece really special. 👏🏼
Yup, cool result! The grain of the Oak works so well with the colors of the Wenge. Beautiful, Andy! 😊
Phil
Thanks Phil 👍
Nicely done mate. Beautiful design Andy
Take care my friend and enjoy the Trekking
Cheers

Andy, this urn had three stages to it. It started at Incredible, went straight to Sensational and turned out Magnificent! Bravo Maestro Bravo!!!
It made a lovely vase, the stripes are striking but not going to lie, when I saw the blank in the screen shot I hoped it was going to be a ring goblet, the captive rings amaze me every time.
It's gorgeous Andy. Very well done, as always. Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us. . .
As an old maintenance electrician, it always brings a smile when you "spin-start" your lathe.
Fantastic job, Andy!!!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It's beautiful. Methinks "simple glue up" may be a bit of an understatement given how perfect the grains line up.
Wow, what a result!! I think I know what I want to try this weekend...or at least some weekend after I get through all my other turning projects.
Lovely shape, beautiful and elegant!😍
Really nice, Andy. Great effect, too. Plus we had a chance to see some of your other skills in the prep work. However, I'm always suspicious of anyone whose shop is so clean (just kidding). Mine certainly isn't.
