As I was growing up, I often heard this fine closing hymn in church. I don't understand why it was omitted from so many hymnals. The words aren't "politically incorrect", and the tune is great. It was good to hear it again.... and to sing along vociferously.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (September 14), we held an outdoor worship service at Dreher Island State Park on Lake Murray. We sang this as the Closing Hymn. It is #537 in Evangelcal Lutheran Worship.
Nice to have a chance to enjoy listening to this hymn... one of the famous 500s hymns in Hymnal 1940, that was "excluded" or you can say "purged" from transitioning to the Hymnal 1982... I have been told that, for some reason, a number of the Hymnal 1940 500s hymns didn't make it to the Hymnal 1982... Thanks for sharing the various hymns and anthems that you upload to youtube...
