(I will never give up commenting this idea lol) I would love to see a challenge where you get a friend to pick and wrap a few books for you where you can’t see the cover, title page, or spine and you read those books. That way you have absolutely no preconceived notions of the book.
Lala, if you need some recommendations for the secret TBR in which you read books that are mentioned in other books, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab mentions a couple: 'M is for Malice' and 'K is for Killer' by Sue Grafton and Grimms' Fairy Tales by Grimms' brothers. Also, 'The Shadows' by Alex North mentions multiple Stephen King books including 'Pet Sematary' and 'The Shining'.
Loved this! Fortnight Frights is my favorite readathon. Also, every time you changed clothes my 4-year-old who watches with me because she loves your voice would say "Wow! I love her outfit, she's so beautiful!" She particularly liked the pink sweater
I totally agree with you about Mexican Gothic. If you went into it wanting Gothic vibes and if you usually like gothic books then you’d enjoy Mexican gothic. Also awww thank you for showing us on the livestream! 🧡🧡🧡
Nina lacour is such a great writer. I listened to we are okay while coloring and the last hour I just stood up, went to the couch, layed down while staring at the ceiling and when the book was finished I just continued staring at the ceiling and I've never had such a weird thing happen before😂😂
That's happen to me but with character names...for example a book leads with a Barbara then the next book I pick up a sisters name will be barbara..the second book might have an Abby and then abby is in the 3rd book. And it keeps going
When I went to get The Murders of Molly Southbourne I see there’s a second book called The Survival of Molly Southbourne. I love when there’s a second book of one I’m excited to read!
The Murders of Molly Southbourne is straight away going into my basket! As is Watch Over Me, The Ravens and These Violent Delights - they sound so good!
I love that you incorporate social awareness into your content. Something that I would love to see you talk about so that more people know what is happening is the battle over lobster fishing rights in Nova Scotia right now. There is very little national coverage, but Mi'kmaq treaty rights to a moderate livelihood are being threatened and people are being attacked. We are living through another Burnt Church. And I think your large Canadian viewership could really use someone to tell them what is going on. (But also like I know you can't talk about everything, so no hate, only love)!
One of my favorite books is Rebecca. I hope you enjoy it. I just finished re-reading it in anticipation for the new movie, which was pretty good. My husband also just surprised me with a 1st edition copy of Rebecca and it’s beautiful.
This has nothing to do with books or reading, but your outfits are always super cute!! You should start listing where you got them in the description 😄
Your intro for these vlogs SLAPS. Also yay!! I'm excited to hear your thoughts on These Violent Delights!! And thank you for linking that podcast, I'll be sure to listen in and see how I can help. I love your vlogs Kayla! Thank you!❤️
Watch Over Me was on my most anticipated reads list because of the cover but I hadn't gotten around to reading it yet. This vlog pushed me to actually order it, and now that I have finished it I am returning to relisten to your thoughts. This was one of the most beautiful and haunting stories I've ever read. Truly perfect. I 100% agree with what you said. Thanks for the push to finally pick this up!
I used to have so many Pokemon cards! And I'm so excited for These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong! Funny that there's another book with the same title :o
I think that your secret tbr should be if you read a book and the people that talk about the book on the cover and back cover you have to read those books that are mentioned.
The TBR where you read the book mentioned in a book would stop at the 2nd read. Because as you said, only classics are referenced, but classics usually don't reference other classics (except maybe the Bible, or unspecified books ie. mentioning only the genre or something)
Okay, that copy of Rebecca is beautiful! Do you go searching for gorgeous editions, or do you just stumble on them? Can you share some online stores that sell these covers?
@Twentysomething Planner you can find this exact edition of Book Depository. Here is the link: www.bookdepository.com/Rebecca-Daphne-du-Maurier/9780349010267?ref=grid-view&qid=1603697048238&sr=1-4
@@BooksandLala thank you! Also as I continued watching, you pointed out book in books. I’m also reading Rebecca this month and the first book I read in October was ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ - That book mentions Rebecca also! Love it haha
I hope you get a chance to read Rebecca. Sooo good. I'm sorry to hear your week has been a little lackluster. I haven't been sick, but these last couple weeks have been overwhelming for me. I'm hoping the last week of Oct will be better
So interested to see your thoughts on Lakewood. It was creepy and I loved that. But I just felt like the plot sucked and the ending sucked and I just ended up feeling so unsatisfied with it 😫
I love watching your blog, but we always have differing opinions. 😂 I gave Mexican Gothic 5 stars, but that’s because the author hit every single Classic Gothic Novel trope and added her Mexican spin. I almost studied Gothic Novels in Grad School because I love them so much. I’m glad you said you wouldn’t consider it horror, but more Gothic. That’s truth.
Feel better soon, secret TBR idea short stories collection (that has multiple anothers on it) than the ones you give 5 stars and of the aouthers has other books they worte them ?
You should look in to Resin by Ane Riel. A claustrophobic danish novel set on an isolated island about six year old kid named Liv, who's declared dead. Her father with his hoarding disorder and her mother who's now so big she can't get out of bed.
I'f you like frankenstein you should def read the dark descent of Elizabeth frankenstein. Its from Elizabeth pov and it's so amazing and authentic to the classic
Have you read Carmen Maria Machado’s other book “In the Dream House” yet? It’s a queer memoir, but it’s unlike any nonfiction I’ve ever read. It reads like poetry, but isn’t poems. And I think it’s within the short-ish page range you like
At 12:15 it's cool idea (I kind of did that) and it was weird but cool at the same time ,so do it P.S I dnf one of those books that why I kind did that A book that recommend other books (that aren't classic) is Words In Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
LOL my fiancé is super into Pokémon and magic the gathering and he always gives me crap (not meanly) for buying books but has tonnnnnnnnnnnns of cards lol and I told him what your fiancé said and we laughed so hard.
I don’t feel so bad about my three star rating of Mexican Gothic now hearing your rating. I liked it but I wasn’t surprised or horrified. It was okay but it wasn’t exciting like you said.
I’m sorry BUT WHAT it was dress weather and then the next day it SNOWED ahhsbdkdk I’m so jealous I’m stuck with the 8 degree (celsius) weather until spring it NEVER snows
Petition to witness the closet clean out
yesssss
YES
Yessss
Where can I sign?😂
okay but I kind of want a secret tbr video where you read books that were mentioned in other books now
Hi
Imagine doing that with the Thursday Next Series by Jasper Fforde. You'd have enough books for a whole year just from reading The Eyre Affair alone :D
oooooor secret tbr of reading books mentioned in movies/tv shows!
"My goal is to have as many Pokemon cards as you have pages!" Sounds like a challenge to buy more books to me. 😂
Maybe in one generation of Pokémon but yes still alot of books
I always find Lala's vlogs to be so soothing and her opinions? YES

yay she answered !! hopefully she will do a video like this !!!
@@BooksandLala Omg. This made my day. I have been commenting this idea for over a month now!
It's a really cool idea!
But the title and author's name can be seen on the start pages of the book or on the top part of pages?
me and lala both giving mexican gothic 3 stars and having the exact same opinions??? love a twin moment
love that for us
Robbie being so proud of his pokemon collection is so cute. Love the video as always.
Seriously anytime I feel like shit or have no motivation to get things done, I’ll get ready for the day hoping it magically makes me a better human 😂
Noo closet clean outs give me lifee!! 💕

I’ve never related to a book as much as I related to Watch Over Me. Immediately one of my favorites books of all time.
Thank you for talking about Nigeria 🇳🇬
Can I just say I love the intro

we have pumpkin cold foam in Canada too! You just can’t choose it on the app. It’s delish!
I was going to comment this, but decided to check if anyone had mentioned yet. I’ve had it on iced pumpkin latte and it’s good.
You are literally the Reading Vlog Queen!
It feels like you FELT that it would get super windy here and I can‘t sleep so you blessed my feed with a video and I can‘t be more gratefuuul!

i love your vlogs so much that when im sad or anxious i immediately go and rewatch some of your volgs😂☺️☺️🥰 makes me feel so happy
Please make the closet clean out a vlog!
I do the read-book-mentioned-in-the-last-book thing all the time, I read a lot of classics and literary fiction so they feed well into eachother.
Watch Over Me sounds really good! I’m reading The Marrow Thieves for Fortnight Frights. 😀
YESSSSS A NEW LALA VIDEO!!!!!!!!! I’m so happy hehehehe
I'm here for the Robbie content. The sweetest cinnamon roll around. 💕
Okay, that copy of Rebecca is beautiful! Do you go searching for gorgeous editions, or do you just stumble on them? Can you share some online stores that sell these covers?
I was just searching for the book within my local bookstore's database and saw that it was an option!
You should check out British blue-and-black edition of Rebecca - it is also so gorgeous!💕😚

Love coastal small town vibes

Reading We Are Okay was so magical for me, it made me sobbed so hard... So I'm so excited to read To Watch Over Me
I just finished Rebecca and it’s 5 stars. It is mysterious and the writing is magical, I hope you get to read it soon!
Your vlogs are all I need 💕
I need to read Watch Over Me. It sounds like something I've been looking for in a book for a while.
I’m halfway finished with Mexican Gothic. It’s creepy, but I really thought there would be “twists” and turns later on. Bummer to hear your review. 😕
Hi Booksandlala I love your channel I'm currently reading Rebecca and would absolutely recommend.
i love the pink sweater 🤩 wheres it from 👀
You need to pick up Hold still by Nina lacour ! That one is absolutely amazing !! ♥️

"Spooky." LOL You are always such a mood.
I'm so excited to see you reading The Murders of Molly Southbourne, I've been wanting more people to pick it up for YEARS
(Also I really enjoyed the sequel, mainly cause it has one of my fave tropes)
what about a tbr where you pick your fav author then read a book they've suggested. then read a book that author has suggested and so on
Kayla could you link the huge bullet journals you have? Thank you so much
Ooo I have Watch over me on my shelf and need to pick it up!!
There was a hot second where I was FULLY READY FOR BOOKISH FORTNITE FRIENDS. Lol my child no longer wants to play with me. Hahaha
When a friend says hi and you don’t remember their name and then it suddenly hits you in the middle of the conversation: 6:02
I think Watch Over Me is going to be my next read for Fortnight Frights and I just know I'm going to cry like a baby.
Okay. I need to go buy a copy of Rebecca now. That cover is stunning. Also my mom keeps telling me to read it.
I do it as well were I don't feel 100% I get dressed and put on some make up and it helps a lot.
i was gonna do FF but fell out of it. Just me or is October top 3 hardest months of 2020
Love the intro, love the vlog, love you
Mexican gothic cover looks stunning🔥🔥🔥🔥
