My biggest revelation was the first video I saw of yours about starting fruit from seed and you made the point that you could just graft into it. It was such a "duh" thing, but really opened me up to the possibilities. If it dies, you're not out any money; if it thrives, you have a rootstock that's well-adapted to your location; and if you're really lucky, you'll end up with amazing fruit that no one else has. I'm currently dreaming up a nursery where I can start trialing things from seed, but in the meantime I'm starting air layers from all of the fruit trees at my grandfather's property, and taking cuttings from anything that people will let me... or don't catch me taking. 😂
@@ThunderStruck15 You can buy scions. Many areas also have annual scion exchanges. And then there's just good ol' asking around. Friends, neighbors, social media, classified/bartering sites. Foraging also turns up lots of stuff.

Most palm seeds can be planted in a well-draining medium and watered regularly until they sprout. A warm place is best. I've seen ornamental palm seeds just stuck on their sides, half-buried, in trays of moist soil. Sometimes they take a few months.
So i have an old pear tree that is slowly on her way out. I got a small harvest of pears in August. I want to propagate from seeds My question is can i grow them now or is it better to plant them in the following spring??? If so do i dry them up or keep them in soil in the fridge untill spring?
Ps cant fix my comment but, i chose to grow green danjou pears :) they are my favorite I’m gonna grow Fuji apples next and cuties citrus mandarin oranges if i can but they’re seedless so how would you grow them

Hey, David! On a tangentially related note, do you know anything about propagating Yaupon Holly? I ask because I'm pretty sure it's native to Florida, so thought you might have experience with it. It should grow where I am, and I'm really looking for a way to grow my caffeine fix.

I love pears off the tree. When I first tasted a store bought pear (@19 years old) it tasted like it was rolled in granulated sugar.
I agree.
Are you going to sing about pears and be a Bosc-anova Singer on the next stream?
Any tips on sprouting palm trees from seeds???? Thank you

You grow stone fruits in the tropics do they flower? Even low chill won’t flower?
I had an apple that had seeds beginning to root inside the fruit. It didn't grow because Florida, but it was really cool.
So i have an old pear tree that is slowly on her way out. I got a small harvest of pears in August. I want to propagate from seeds
My question is can i grow them now or is it better to plant them in the following spring???
If so do i dry them up or keep them in soil in the fridge untill spring?
Since it's a temperate fruit doesn't it need cold weather to set fruit?
You’ll just have to pick off all the leaves that will trigger it like cold weather does.
Hee hee! Be nice to your mother and always say pear-ease ☺️🍐💕🍐 cute and sweet! 🧁 You made a pear ap-pear, out of nowhere! Magic ✨🧙✨
The red arrows on the thumbnail got my attention!

Awesome Thank you for sharing
Always suspected you were a pear, super sweet and slightly grainy.
Can you graft fruit other than pears on the pear rootstock?
I will make a strawberry variety called "Dammit!"~
I’m from Missouri and a new subscriber… what types of fruit trees beside apples would you suggest…
Chestnuts, pears, plums, pecans, walnuts, wild plums, native persimmon, pawpaw, butternut, shellbark hickory, cherry, mulberry.
Ps cant fix my comment but, i chose to grow green danjou pears :) they are my favorite I’m gonna grow Fuji apples next and cuties citrus mandarin oranges if i can but they’re seedless so how would you grow them
Plant another orange's seed, then find a mandarin to graft onto it later.
Great video as always, sir! When you refrigerate the bag with the potting mix does it need to be sealed tightly or does it need some level of ventilation?
I seal them and they do fine - thank you.

Do i have to put the seed in a certain direction? I actually have no idea where they are the bag dropped (arthritis lol) so do i have to find them and put them in properly?
No, any direction is fine
Do pear seeds store well? I have some, but it's October, not sure if I should try to plant them now, or save them.
In a baggie of soil, chilled in the fridge, they can keep a few months.
I have only one pear tree in my backyard. Is it absolutely necessary to have one more to cross pollinate and bear fruit or one is enough?
Some seem to self-pollinate just fine; however, you can graft a couple varieties onto the same tree and you'll really get great pollination.
Darn it, missed the premier!
Those carambolas in the background are looking mighty 😋
Btw, how long will carambola take to grow from seed. What are the chances that I will get a good variety from a seed from a store bought carambola?
It grows easily from seed. Probably about 4 years to fruit. If the parent is good, the fruit should be good.
David The Good Thank you! That is a good amount of time 👍
How are the pear trees now?

Can the seeds be used right after being taken from the fruit or do you have to dry the seed first before they germinate ?
Right from the fruit. They do not store well.

cool

Is grafting similar to GMO?
No, not at all. It is just taking a piece of one tree and putting it on another. It was practiced even in ancient Israel.

I want tons of land so I can plant and replant to find the perfect pear.
That would be awesome.
The last pear I put in the fridge didn't germinate and left me dispeared.
Apearently something went wrong 🌴
The seeds didn't pear?
it depends on what conditions/enviroment the seed was before. if it had been in room temperature for a day...freezing will retard the germination.
