Beautiful!
Great video very informative. Can’t wait to try it.
They are wonderful! I have wanted to try Naked Raku for a long time.
wow!
Thank you so much for this video! We’re excited to try this at our studio. When you put the lid on the cans for reduction, I noticed you weren’t concerned about a tight seal. I thought the tight seal was important for the reduction atmosphere?
@@miyceramics yes it is if you are trying to get copper lusters but not if you just need a smoky atmosphere for black crackle.
Best process video I’ve seen - thank you so much. And I read your correction temp - good to catch that and post 👍🏼. Excited to try - although I need to source fire clay - I’m guessing it’s in the powder stage and not wet bagged stage. Although I could get wet and dry it then crush it.
Yes fire clay is very common it is used to make mortar. Try hardware of masonry supply.
Correction we fired these pots to 1550 degrees thanks Don!
Beautiful
Beautiful video, thankyou.
I tried today (before finding this video) but I think I did something wrong. I made terra sigillata before and wanted to use the waste (coarser parts) to make a resist slip, so my resist was made of ball clay, kaolin and then I added chamotte clay from raku clay I use until it was the consistency of yogurt. However it didn't cracked at all and wouldn't pop off the pot. Do you think it can come out better if I add alumina to this recipe and maybe silica? Or do I really need to make the resist all over again? Any advice?
Thank you very much and congratulations again!
@@giu1io my advise would. Be start over from scratch. There are lots of recipes out there. Try a few and experiment with small trial firings to get something that works for your clay and tera dig. Good luck!
Hi Amanda, that you so much for sharing a detailed video on Naked Raku. Is there a substitute for Lincoln Clay? Can Ball Clay be used in place of Lincoln Clay as in India we do not get Lincoln Fireclay. Thanks in advance
Yes use your local clay. Let us know how it works for you.
Will give it a try and share the results. Thanks
At the end of the video you refer that the large piece was double fired, can you elaborate on this?
Yes it was bisque fired and raku fired.
I am sorry forget that first answer. It was bisque fired then it was fired with pop off that didn't look and so it was fired actually a third time.
Did you heat it in the kiln or bisque between raku firings? Or just apply slip again on top of the raku fired pop off piece
@@LANORMEband No it was just raku fired twice after the original bisque.
What is fire clay 5?
@@rayyung5203 I think she was just saying she uses 5 cups of fire clay. Fire clay is a kind of clay sold in masonry supply store used in mortar for fire places and such.
@ Thank you
May I ask, what clay you use when making your pots? TIA
It is stoneware clay that has grog. By Laguna
Thank you. I appreciate your quick response and willingness to share.
