His pacing is so bizarre and fascinating. It's not quite like talking naturally, but it's not overacting either. It's just that niche he fills that makes him so weirdly magnetic on stage.
He found his own unique pace that no one can copy without looking like a fool. Speaking distinctly, emotionally and convincingly. Thats the mark of a legend!
Hell he was the reason it went to film in the first place!!!!! And he has a certain swagger about himself.... And the movie portrayal of the character he is playing is so beneath Alan that it doesn't even come close!!!!
Foolish Hollywood!!! Alan is the best actor in the world ... Why he didn't have won an Oscar?...Why he never has been nomitaed for it?... When we see him getting one? He deserves all the awards in the world, because he is the BEST actor ever!***
This is amazing. I wish more than anything there existed more clips of him in this role. I was a baby when he was on Broadway with this :( How can there not exist a recording of it?? He was supposedly brilliant as Valmont!
Amazing performance from both actors, missing Sir A.Rickman SO BADLY right now :// ...and that unexplained thing on presenters lower half... Thanks so much for sharing
His voice always ....
My god, Alan was so hot in his younger days.
I saw this production in New York and it still ranks as one of the best plays I have ever seen. Lindsay Duncan was magnificent !!
"You shall award me a Tony. Do not disappoint me."
Alan should’ve won the Tony for his role! He was brilliant!

every word is.. a shakespearian one....

liamath1 he didn't get an oscar because he deserved something better than it.
Too european maybe ?
I will always love you, Alan. Goodbye, my professor... :')

This was my first memory of you. Thank you for sharing your gift.
God I miss when the Tony's did excerpts from the plays
Thank you for these video. Alan Rickman is unique!!!!!! I am really sure that it must to be him in the film.
this man ages well. ;)
I miss your voice...
Alan Rickman should have been in the movie version of this!!!!!!
Casting John Malkovich instead was a strange decision.
No, he was too cerebral. John Malkovich more sensual.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for share!!!!!! Mex!
@johnyzero2000 I agree, but Malkovich did a great role aswell. but i would love to see Alan plying this amazing role
Class video
🌾💮🌿💘👏👏👏👏👏👍
@SailingMoominmama I envy you. I wish that I had seen this. Ooh, what I'd do for a time machine.
I WANTED TO MEET HER IN PERSONT.
Surely the whole thing was recorded... anyone? Anyone? I would love to see quality for a change.
Why wasn't he cast in the film??!!

wtf is the presenter wearing. RIP Alan
80s fashions were hideous. That's Mary Tyler Moore, by the way.
I’m glad Rickman didn’t play Valmont in the Frears movie. He’s too cerebral and sharp and the character should be sensual and fluid. Just my opinion.
Egads, this is soap opera level acting! Rickman is FAR better than he comes off in this performance. The timing and inflection are just awful here.
Do you watch much theater? I don't I was just wondering.
