can someone petition to get RADA to have them release this play in their website goddammit. there’s a recording of it but you’d have to watch it in a their theatre in the uk 💀
Rickman was devastated that he lost out to Malkovich to play Valmont. But the producers wanted a bankable star, not the man who created the role brilliantly.
Blake, I'm afraid IMDB is incorrect. I read an interview with Alan Rickman where he clearly stated his great disappointment that he didn't get Valmont because the character meant so much to him. Die Hard was a kind of consolation prize, but he was brilliant as Hans and it is an iconic performance.
Dumbest decision ever made in Hollywood. Malkovich was so totally miscast. I saw Alan take some audience questions about this role and one woman said, "You led with your loins." Love that!!
i don't know; maybe it's because i saw the movie first, but i thought malkovitch's coldness (and creepiness) added to the sinister shadow hanging over all the rococo (and physical) beauty. it also makes his death all the more tragic, as it looks more like imitation of human feeling than true penitence- his death being the only truly noble action of which he is capable. glenn close's performance is similarly robotic, only she uses the false cordiality needed to give her the "female" edge she speaks of so eloquently. it's a beautifully made and fun film, and I think a lot of the residual bitterness from fans comes from the fact that rickman was being denied his shot. but he got it (and died significantly more famous than malkovitch- an icon, really). love of one performance doesn't preclude appreciation of the other.
i remember seeing this play recently and i was so shocked at the story and how lewd it was. then i was so disappointed when i realized there wasn't a full recorded version of Alan's performance. and he apparently made all the women in the audience want to sleep with him. that i could believe.
@@barbarazirger7732 I personally didn’t consider it lewd although there were some who did. I found it to be sensual and enticing and seductive from that perspective and his performance was all of that. I literally wanted to throw myself on stage and into his arms because he was so into that role it was profound.
@@barbarazirger7732 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Liaisons_dangereuses It is about a man who seduces a virgin on a dare and the repercussions around that. John Malkovich played the male lead in the movie version and Michelle Pfeiffer played the Countess. I believe Uma Thurman was the woman that was being seduced in the movie version.
Are there any full recorded versions of this play available for streaming and/ or purchase. From the bits and pieces I've seen and heard about, it seems like it's a production that should not be missed 🙂😍🤗
I will always adore this man in his acting skills

I would die to see it. I always wondered why no version of this has ever made it online. Great to know it exists! I’ll start pestering them, lol!
@@dukejen04any joy with this?!
He would have been fantastic in the film - can you imagine?!! TY for posting this!
I love Alan Rickman, because sometimes his face looks like a cat or a lion XD
+Kami Satori he kinda moves like one too. Like a swagger of a cat.
Lionel Shabandar likes this
And his voice growls and purrs.
He definitely looks like a lion here 😍

+Melissa King beg pardon, but IMDb says he was offered the role, but turned it down to be Hans Gruber

The part that guaranteed his Hans Gruber in Die Hard
OMG JULIET STEVENSON IS IN THIS ASWELL
Why isn’t there a full recording of this!!!? 😫

YUP...that was exactly my reaction when I saw it on Broadway...I wanted to throw myself naked onto the stage! LOL!
Wait, there really isn't a fully recorded version of his play? That really sucks😪

RIP, Alan Rickman!
Он такой красивый💓🥰💓
I defintely agree with you! I would have loved to see him playing Valmont in the movie, with Glenn Close playing Merteuil =D
Hot damn... *purrs*

Thanks for sharing this great video! Do you know where I could find a full video of the play?
Where can I find a full video of this? I beg of you
Why in the world did they pick John Malkovick over Alan Rickman for this role? He would have been perfect!
And where is your Malkovich now? XD
Malkovich is ugly 😣😒
I know
What were they thinking giving the part to him over Alan
@@Vote2024again he certainly is ugly. Whereas Alan is sexy asf 😍😍😍😍. I love you always Alan Rickman ❤️
He was meant to be Hans Gruber
Alan Rickman was too cerebral and could not convey Valmont’s sensuality.
@@bethfiori4708 I disagree. I think he’s too intellectual, he doesn’t convey seduction or primal power to me.
I'm sorry, but this delivery is just dreadful. I love Rickman, but Malkovich OWNED this role.
And yet he got nominated for a Tony for it, so I guess everyone is an idiot except you.
Akicita A. Totally disagree with you. This character main feature is the sex appeal that Malkovich did not have, compared to Rickman's
