Sedan Showdown: 2020 Subaru Legacy vs Honda Accord Comparison Test

- There’s no denying that cars - and sedans in particular - are dying a sad and swift death under a stampede of swole SUVs. Forget efficiency, affordability and drivability; it’s size that reigns supreme these days. Give me utility or give me death, as the saying goes. (OK, I made that up, but you get the point.) Yet for those who don’t mind sacrificing some of the space, they’ll seldom use anyway in favour of a family sedan that ticks those three magical boxes mentioned above, at least a couple of outstanding examples remain on the market. Take the 2020 Subaru Legacy and Honda Accord, two compelling cars that are as unique as they are, well, good.

I bought a base legacy 2.5i, In my budget, I might as will be driving a Mercedes. It is bulletproof. I can’t believe how much I love this car after so many miles.
Legacy is quieter and more refined and personally it looks better than the Accord
$33,500 fully loaded XT Turbo , pearl white black leather interior with added factory tinted windows . This car needed nothing but long weekend road trips.
Yeah man that sounds great..... That guy is so whinny
Legacy has standard rear USB jacks on the Premium and up. The Accord didn't even offer that on the Touring. NFC is standard on the Premium and up on Legacy. You have to buy Accord Touring for that. Navigation is standard on the top Legacy but you can get it on the Premium and up as an option. Honda makes you get the Touring Trim (top trim) for navigation. Honda is just too damn high at the end of the day and no AWD.
deciding the purchase of a car by usb ports...how times have changed.
I live in CT on a mountain. Literally, with snow tires, the Honda Accord cannot get my home (I used to own one, and I was stranded trying to climb the mountain if there was more than 4 inches of snow on the ground.) Now own the Subaru and with snow tires get home every time. Therefore, due to the lack of AWD, the Honda is inferior for me.
Non comparable cars ... AWD VS FWD .... Legacy is much better
Yulian Markevych That one is all-wheel drive and the other is front-wheel Drive is the whole point of the comparison. Thanks for watching!
This guy was clearly biased towards the Honda Accord the whole time, which is a great car but the Legacy is better. The Legacy was not voted the best midsize sedan for nothing.
My Legacy turbo GT is solid as a rock, fit and finish is excellent and I don’t hear any creeks. Is Honda paying this dude? Any driver knows all wheel drive is a different animal.
I’m looking into buying an xt limited thanks for that info ! Coming from an sti looking for comfort and refinement
Having driven both, the Accord shits all over the Legacy. Although my V6 Camry shits on them both.
That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it but to me the Camry like the Accord and the 2018 Maxima SR I traded in are great as long as the pavement is dry and warm. Unfortunately rarely is it... You can’t compare all wheel drive to front wheel drive dude and if you spent some time in a Legacy you would know exactly what I’m saying.
@@nodak81 camry is trash
@@deancm3759 yeah
I test drove both of these vehicles in the range topping models. Legacy gets my vote for two reasons. AWD and heated steering wheel, neither can be found in the accord. I also though the Legacy’s fit and finish quality was quite good. I don’t like the dash set up in the accord and I much rather a traditional gear shift.
MrMomo0529 I can’t speak to other markets, but the Accord Touring 2.0 (top trim) in Canada includes a heated steering wheel. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for letting me know, here in the states the heated steering wheel is reserved for Acura line up. The seat extender on the legacy is a welcome feature when driving long distance don’t you think?
Legacy is very nice but the 2.0 accord def faster if speed is a determining factor in purchasing vehicle.
You give the Accord an AWD the competition is gonna be insane
Instead they give us the tlx..
Consumer Reports score the Legacy 87 to the Accord's 82. That includes a 2/5 score for tires on the Legacy, and without the 260 HP turbo engine. I own a 2020 Legacy GT, so I'm biased. One thing I disagree with is the criticism of fit & finish, I'm not seeing that here. But I found this to be quite a fair review.
Yo tengo los 2 y la verdad el legacy se maneja mucho mejor especialmente con la carretera mojada..
The Subaru looks like a Chevy Malibu or a Chevy Cruze, if you like that look then by all means but I would rather get WRX.
Saying if you should get a WRX over a legacy because you dont like the look of it, is like saying You should get a Tundra over a Tacoma because you dont like the look. Its just a stupid thing to say. Really! They are 2 very different categories of vehicles meant for very different types of driving. You can very quickly find yourself regretting your purchase if you choose a vehicle based solely on looks. WRX is a much smaller sedan. It gets about 10 miles less to the gallon than the Legacy. Sure it will have better throttle response, handing, and pick up faster, but at the expense of quiet, comfort, and fuel consumption. The 2 vehicles cant even really be compared friend.
Many times we need to let our own biases go, for the sake of making sound decisions. Its called being a mature adult. You may like or have the WRX and its a fine care for those that are looking for such a vehicle, but for someone like me who does 180 mile round trip commute 5 days a week. The WRX would be nothing but a stupid mistake, simply because I didnt like the way the legacy looked. Its just dumb bro
@@diversify210 it looks like someone feelings got hurt lol bro come down. If you like the look of whatever car you go bro if you looking for mileage then you do you. At the end of the day It’s all preference.
The legacy doesn't look like any Chevy what the hell are you on smh!!!
Am I right in assuming your quoted prices are in C$?
mb13972 Yes indeed!
It's a small styling point, but I like how the Accord has glass in the C pillar smoothly finishing out the window line. The abrupt back door cutoff with the plastic filler cheat piece behind it on the Legacy bugs the heck out of me. My '07 Legacy has C pillar glass with a proper Hofmeister kink, and I feel like if I'm paying 30 or 40 grand for a new car they can afford to design the windows properly!
Every single reviewer saying the exact same thing. "It's new but you wouldn't know it by looking at the previous generation". Can someone come up with something new to say. Looks different to me I guess some people can't see details.
It's not a heavy change in terms of styling, but it's definitely a change. TBH, I don't see anything wrong with it, Subarus look fine enough to me as they are.
Did he talk about how roomy the Legacy is and the fact that it has more height and HEAD room inside the cabin so taller people will find their head isn't touching up against the headliner - even with a sunroof? I have a 2016 Honda Accord with a GEAR SHIFT! I like that. I don't like the new model's push buttons!
If the Accord had better sound isolation, AWD, a regular shifter, and a better stereo it would be near perfect.
CVT in the Legacy is a deal killer for me.
Legasi my dream!
Legacy is best...AWD...
Every review seems go right to top of line super expensive models. Let's get some of base or other trims that are affordable.
Thanks for the feedback!
I like accord front and Subaru rear
No to both, for that price range( GT or 2L T) , I would go for G70 or A3
A3 doesnt have a turbo and its small and basic interior even if u get the 45 TFSI progessive.
You can get a base legacy for around $22,000
$40k??? The corporate Subaru site lists this turbo charged version for $34,195.
Chris Klein A top-of-the-line Premier GT is priced at $39,095 before freight and fees in Canada. Thanks for watching!
For the limited XT(GT in Canada), our the Touring XT. The Touring is more than the Limited
Both are great cars but not complete, Accord 2T need AWD, Legacy GT needs an Automatic Transmission and not CVT, then they might get some customers from Germans. I think the reasons for drop in Sedan's sale is that they are so boring( CVT) and unexciting, manufactures goal is to make smaller efficient engine to save on Gas! for that they took all the fun and sportiness out of Sedans.
Also SUVs are more expensive than Sedans, I am sure car makers prefer to sell more Suvs than Sedan!!!!!!
Sedans are not boring you completely misunderstood the market. SUV's are not popular its actually the pseudo SUV's or the so called compact crossovers that are in demand. Traditional SUVs like those as big as a Ford Explorer is not in demand. People want compact crossovers because they are the same as a sedan but just raised up few inches and offers better views when driving and hatchback adds storage room. And you obviously havent test driven both of them the 2.4L turbo with the WRX high torque CVT in the subaru or the accord.
You're like any other ignorant "car guy" that hears CVT like a disease. Do you even know what transmision has even more problems than CVT? Yes the so called DCT that people hated first then loved saying its better than an automatic....DCT burns clutch plates.
2 of his gripes about the Accord are non-issues. I'm 6'1 and have never even had the first thought that I didn't have enough head room in the front of my '20 Accord Touring 2.0T. And the push button transmission criticism is way over the top. Literally takes 2 or 3 days to get used to and it's all muscle memory from then on. I actually really like the push buttons. I think they look quite clever. That's just my opinion and everyone has them, so to each his own. I love my Accord though and have zero regrets buying it.
The Subaru is very good cars, AWD for snow and mud ,l think you really can't compare the two cars because the drive system is different one is AWD and the other in FWD it's not a good match up to compare
I've read plenty of forums Canadians saying all they need is fwd and quality snow tires
I'm guessing the subby would crash better
Nope
My new Legacy Touring XT is identical to the Legacy in this video. I like it, but I have to admit the styling is so ho-hum. It's absolutely invisible - no one notices it.
so..you need attention?
@@endrizo Always.
@@jeffmorse645 check that with a shrink pal.
@@endrizo SMH - I was kidding. I don't know of anyone who doesn't want a nice looking vehicle. I don't think my Legacy is ugly - just kind of plain. I've grown to like its plain looks these past few months.
@@jeffmorse645 oh ok..nice to hear that. enjoy your ride.
Subie look too dull. If they can be more creative with the styling.
Does Honda still dump gas in the crankcase oil like my CRV does?
Accord, accordingly.
Would not ever buy a car with a cvt. The Legacy really seems half baked and needs refining school. The display is big but pointless when barely anything uses its feal estate. Poor fit and finish in a Subaru is sadly not shocking. People blindly support Subaru due to the belief that they need awd when show tires are more than enough with a rwd vehicle. The Accord is really a great package. I am a fan of the styling. I do wish Honda would have kept the clutch engagement on the manual guide like the Civic Type R and not so aloof. The manual was so lifeless I would just get the 10 speed auto sadly
i disagree, the fit and finish on the subaru has been reviewed by many reviewers to be one of the better midsize even compared to the altima which looks better than the honda. CVT is a high torque CVT from the WRX, it has no issues with the 2.4L turbo. Most reviewers said the high torque is pretty responsive and the CVT in turbo has a engaged lock, meaning it tightened the response time vs regular cvt that allows slippage. The big screen isn't bad but its a bit laggy at times and i would prefer physical buttons on the essential temp controls.
Poor fit and finish in the interior doesnt exist in the legacy, poor fit and finish would be a tesla that has many QC problems. Have you even test driven the turbo?
The subaru gets a lot of interior features that honda lacks, for once Subaru has heated steering wheel which is a standard on all brands in the same market. Honda doesnt come with that which is such a basic feature at that price.
Idk,I love my 2017 legacy,I think ppl dont get in the city we barely do 40 mph, butly the car that bests suits your needs, simple,do highway? Get a highway car,in the city? Get a city car, nothing does great in all situations....not that I've driven
Honda seat comfort is terrible compared to the Legacy
well i like and want that legacy from 15 or 20+ years ago BACK. are you listening subaru? wake up !.
I think a lot of people are very quick to say "Subaru has AWD, therefore it's better," without even driving the cars. I've driven both the new Accord and new Legacy and I'll tell you, the Accord performed astoundingly better. The Legacy has an okay interior but the styling is just bland and already looks ten years old. On top of that, it felt extremely sluggish with the CVT. The AWD is nice in the snow, but in regular driving it just weighs you down. Meanwhile, the Honda Accord looks much more modern, has a nicer interior and is much faster. The 8speed auto transmission is much quicker and feels way more responsive.
In my opinion, unless you live somewhere where the roads are terrible and it snows a ton, like the mountains, get the Accord. It's much better as a daily driver.
Honda Accord even looks better
accord is better for its reliability
If you get the base engine you also get oil dilution problems that will wreck the engine over time.
@@nodak81 the accord doesn’t have oil dilution
Honda reliability isn’t what it used to be, there quality and reliability is declining so much
