His weakness is when he claims that the Bible doesn't say homosexuality is an abomination.
He argued that the Bible is against the inserter, when the Bible clearly says both men must be put to death and it is their own fault.

@francmittelo6731 You make a good point. With that being said, however, doesn't the Bible have a tendency to eliminate (kill) all those involved and even those looselyassociated? For example, there is that passage in the old testament where a guy steals loot after a battle and the whole family is killed. There's also the killing of the first born in Egypt. Additionally, women in a same sex relationship are not addressed so I think it's more complicated and less straightforward than you point out.

There is a Biblical law against male homosexuality.
It is a ruling given by Adonai to Moses.
      It is not a story.
The examples you gave are not relevant.
Female homosexuality is not clearly stated, but from the law we can extrapolate to women.
The same way we say God created humans in his image.
If we were being pedantic then we could argue that God created men in his image, and he created women in a different way.

@@thomaswillard6267 Heh heh Lil Rugrat here turns brain off and spouts dumb platitudes never having actually "thought" about any of the relevant subject matter. Poverty over-representation: the slight asymmetry is mostly explained by a lag in marriage benefit "rights," but the mere slight asymmetry alone doesn't explain itself. For example, the disconnect could be because there's a long established higher prevalence of mental illness among LGBTQIA'ers (depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorders, etc). Of course, by far and away the greatest predictor of poverty in America is single motherhood. A clear amelioration here would be to attempt achieving minimal single motherhood but that would buck up against Lil Rugrat's feminist narrative so more women get to be poor. I am woman hear me... at the Food Stamp office! As for cultural power, every major global corporation almost without exception fully backs LGBTIA'ism. Credit lenders like Wells Fargo even have percentage rate cuts predicated on meeting diversity quotas. Saved Black Rock hundreds of millions. Now, Black Rock will then use all those rainbow powered dollars to turn around and buy up entire towns, and immediately rent hike those already economically suffering but hey the Lil Rugrats of the world can sleep tight because they "support diversity."

A helpful analogy of the "Genesis Marriage" verse: "At one point, your parents drive you around, until one day, you grow up, get your own license and get your own car." Does that mean that you must keep that car for the rest of your life, that you can't own other cars, as many as you can afford, or even the conditions under which you can get rid of your car? The biblical passage there is *descriptive*, not *definitive*, it says nothing about how weddings work, what the terms are, nor does it say what does NOT count (it doesn't actually deny same sex marriage). It's not even describing a marriage, technically, so much as how guys hook up with women, whether they actually *marry* them or not, a one-night stand works fits that verse just as well!

I am a nurse anesthesiologist and throughout my career I have taken care of many jehovah’s witnesses in my career who decline to receive blood products/transfusions even in critical life saving situations. I have taken care of a few trauma patients who spent days in critical condition and some died from traumatic blood loss that we likely could have otherwise saved and had a full recovery. On the JW official website they say They believe that it is God’s will to “abstain from blood” citing (Genesis 9:4; Leviticus 17:10; Deuteronomy 12:23; Acts 15:28,29) I searched through your video history to see if you have addressed this in the past and as far as I can see you have not. • @redpill2225
      @redpill2225 Місяць тому

@xerk2945 It starts off with you being in the sunday churches and understanding a little of the bible. Then you come across street preachers yelling antisemitic stuff and wonder why because its odd for my people to have this behavior towards the Jews, telling us that our heritage was stolen and that the reason our captivity came about was because of our ancestors disobeying the commandments of God, so they use the bible. Going to verses such as Deuteronomy 28 or Genesis 10 to show that the so called African Americans were the biblical hebrew israelites that were cursed. This will lead many into the cult. It will have certain groups among the cult hate every nation, and promote one nation supremacy over all people. I think zionist is the proper term for this. Then you had another group that believed all people are equal and that the bible was for all people. This led me into doing deep thinking, it felt like Christianity all over again with so many denominations which divided people. Dans videos covered a lot of things i use to believe in and I see just how wrong and laughable a lot of my beliefs were.

Always glad to see Dan weigh in. He offers a lot of nice correctives and resources. I do not doubt that there were differences of opinion among the philosophers about when the soul enters the body, or even (maybe) what the soul was. Epicurus and Lucretius after him, both of them materialists and as close to having a "scientific view" as you can find in ancient philosophy, had a decidedly different view on this from Plato. I wish Dan would cite some sources from these philosophers and more explicitly connect the dots from those sources on this question as he does with the biblical texts.
And to my mind, Dan may be engaging in some "progressive-friendly" selections of Jesus texts. Yes, Jesus did emphasize "the weightier matters of the law," but Dan seems to be abstracting this from the Matthew text in doing so. Liberal and progressive biblical citation strategies tend to emphasize these texts. But they also ignore (or at least de-emphasize) the nastier parts of Jesus's pronouncements, as when Jesus compares (in Luke) God's treatment of people like that of a master to a slave, who will "beat" or "lash" the servants according to how well they performed compared to how well they understood their master's instructions or "will." Maybe Jesus is not as laudable under analysis as some like to think.
What I see is progressives citing texts conservatives do not, and conservatives citing texts progressives do not. Both strategies seem to have the same weaknesses insofar as there is plenty to qualify heavily or undermine each group's rhetorical goals (of which Dan is keenly aware and often points to).
I am saying that Jesus may not be particularly congenial either to American progressivism or to conservatism when taken all together in the texts as we have them. Maybe Dan can speak more to this. After watching, enjoying, and benefiting from a lot of Dan's content, I fully believe he has the integrity to see this and fully acknowledge it. I have a great deal of respect for Dan's work and his mission. He's much needed.

Religion should be a mercy, a grace a kindness, at the least.

      @rainbowkrampus Місяць тому +1

"or to delineate the "chosen" from the lesser." That's odd, because acting as a social identity marker is a primary function of religion. All religions make a claim, explicit or implicit, that they have the most correct understanding of reality. Otherwise, people wouldn't be so married to the dogmas and conceits of their religion.
"What is wrong with people like that?" You say this is rhetorical, but the rest of your post kinda suggests you've missed the mark at least a little. If you're going to validate the concept of religion, you're going to have to accept that the project of religion is fundamentally exclusive in nature. Which means you're going to have to accept that where some, such as yourself, will prefer to downplay the exclusivity. Others are going to embrace it. The prescriptions you suggest at the start of your post are just that, suggestions. You're still validating all of the things which the guy in the video is relying on to arrive at his conclusions.

If this verse is about marrage and specifically defining marrage to be sin free only between if it is between 1 man and 1 woman it leads to some disturbing questions.
When the Bible tells of the many wives and concubines of kings David and Solomon is it showing the sin of poligamy or showing us how great and blessed they were?
Look at Job. When God restores Job and gives him many wives is God causing him to sin? If so is it a reward for him being faithful?
At one time this verse was used to show that divorce and remarrage was a sin. I haven't seen this sin mentioned by evangelicals in years.

The Didache gives some insight to Christian views and practice…
    You shall not commit adultery."
You shall not be sexually perverse."
You shall not be sexually promiscuous."
    Or
“thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not corrupt boys, thou shalt not commit fornication.”
    And:
“You shall not murder a child by abortion, nor kill a child at birth.”
“thou shalt not slay a child by abortion, nor what is begotten shall thou destroy.”
Yes, while the exact point of personhood is not explicit in the Scripture or early views of the church. I think the early writings like the Didache speaking against abortion gives a pretty negative stance on the practice as a whole. It does equate the practice to murder.
Secondly, the sexual ethic perpetuated and promoted in the Didache echoes the writing of Paul to the early churches. As for a Christian the ideal was celabate singleness or heterosexual monogamous marriage. The goal- is to be as much like Christ as possible.
I agree, love, justice, and mercy are all tennets of the Christian faith and should be ideals to be exemplified and practiced. Those outside the Christian faith are in the hands of God, we cannot expect them to abide by Christian ideals. However, those claiming the Name of Christ should be in full submission to His teachings.

@@psyok I could very well be wrong, but it seems to me that Jesus was saying this not as a universal requisite for salvation, but rather as a test for this particular individual (and a sort of mirror for everyone else). You see, "good" people (who obey all the commands) still have something that stands in the way of their relationship to Jesus/God. In this man's case, it was his possessions. He wasn't willing to give them up, because they meant more to him than a Christ-like life. That was this individual's test. It wasn't his possessions, though; it was his attitude toward them, and it echoes the command given to Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. He was willing to do so, and God recognized that willingness to obey, and provided a substitute sacrifice. This illustration shows up in the miracle of the loaves and fishes, as well. The boy was willing to give up his food, with the result that more was provided. In other words, it's not the actual giving up worldly possessions, but rather the willingness to do so if they stand in the way of spiritual fulfillment.

Rather, WITHIN the bible can be found the WORDS OF GOD and subsequently SCRIPTURES. Even so, scripture must be parse through the lens of context and failure to do so is what has largely contributed to the HORRIBLY AMAZING fact of 47000 'Christian' denominations in the world to date.

Psalm 82 in the Bible describes a world with multiple gods.
Romans 2:15, They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them. (written about people of other religions)
Matthew 19, 16 Someone came to Jesus with this question: “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”
17 “Why ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. But to answer your question-if you want to receive eternal life, keep the commandments.”
18 “Which ones?” the man asked.
And Jesus replied: “‘You must not murder (taught by pagans). You must not commit adultery (taught by pagans). You must not steal (taught by pagans). You must not testify falsely (taught by pagans). 19 Honor your father and mother (taught by pagans, to a point). Love your neighbor as yourself. (taught by pagans, to a point)’
(Notice how “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” ..., “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” ..., “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”...., and “Thou shalt not covet.”.... are NOT mentioned as requirements, PER JESUS?)
Deuteronomy 32:8, When the Elyon apportioned the nations, when he divided humankind, he fixed the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the bene elohim which numbered in 70. Elyon is the creator god of the Canaanites. One of his kids is El Shaddai (who was worshipped all the way until Moses). El Shaddai had a wife named Asherah and they had 70 kids. One of them named Yahweh.
    Your thoughts?

Some of the evidence jesus is satan is his breaking of the god parts of the commandments. No other god became jesus is god. No graven image became the cross. Sabbath got cancelled. Thy shall not covet became jesus coveting God's kingdom and people which ties to revelation and jesus calling himself the morning star and taking a 1/3 of the stars (people) with him when he falls.
As far as i know there's no biblical evidence arch angel michael is jesus, its all conjecture. So biblically the armaggedon war will be micheal vs jesus the great deceiver. The trinity is a symbolism of cerberus. Truly the word salad used to validate the trinity is pure satanic deceitfulness.
Christianity has become the deceiver of nations. Christ is the anti-god king. As per Daniel, the evil king who sets up his tent between the holy mountain (god) and the holy sea (the people) and says "none shall get to god except through me". With that the connection of god to its people is shattered. None worship god, none obey god as king, none obey god's law. Satan rules the earth.

If you look at the CONTEXT of "the sermon on the mount", Jesus was referring to the nation of Israel being a light unto the non-Jewish nations of the world [read Matt 5:1 (Jesus is speaking to crowd, and his Jewish disciples), then Matt 5:13-20, then Isaiah 49:1-26, but especially v. 6).
And so, in context, the hill is a reference to the city of Jerusalem, and the Beith HaMiqdash (the Temple) in Matt 5:14-20). And Jesus was also demanding that Jews remain Torah Observant, but he was also aware that with Greek / Roman influences, many Jews were beginning to go off the derekh (the path), and so he said that he was only sent to save "the lost sheep of Israel" (Matt 15:24).
Which hearkens back to prophetic messages, and other writings within the Tanakh (aka: the Hebrew Scriptures). For example:
    - Psa 119:176, I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.
    - Jer 50:6, “My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the mountains. They wandered over mountain and hill and forgot their own resting place.
    - Isa 49:6, he says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
Jesus also agreed with the Jewish opinion of the day that Gentiles were considered to be dogs (Matthew 15:22-28).

@@Alex-ne6fm First, Luke is a different gospel entirely, and it's narratives do NOT change the opinions / the stories expressed in Matthew.
And Dr. McClellan has made numerous videos about the error of "univocality" when reading the Tanakh (aka: Hebrew Scriptures), and/or the New Testament.
Second, regarding Israelite / Jewish identity after the political split of the [edit: United monarchy of Saul, David, and Solomon], "Jews" not only included the tribe of Judah, but the tribe of Benjamin, and Dan who remained loyal to the house of David after the Kingdom of Israel was divided into the Northern, and Southern kingdoms.
The capitol of the Northern Kingdom became Samaria. Hence the animosity between the Jews (of the southern kingdom), and the Israelites of the northern kingdom which naturally included their Samaritan Israelite cousins.
Third, another big divide between the Israelites of Samaria (aka: Samaritan Israelites) and Jews, was the Samaritan insistence that Mount Gerizim was the historical holy site of the Israelites.
However, it's a way more complicated than that, as this article goes into a bit more detail, www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/ancient-cultures/daily-life-and-practice/the-samaritan-schism/
Therefore, in all likelihood, "the Samaritan" although despised by Jews in Luke's gospel would NOT have been considered a 'Gentile dog'. Rather, someone that 'the Jews' would not normally associate with at that time in the NT narrative because of the North / South split.
Here's one video explaining who the Samaritan Israelites are, and their ancient history, and why a difference between Samaritan Israelites and the rest of the religious Jewish world exists today. ua-cam.com/video/tRrFrx8-wEg/v-deo.html
Having said all that, today, [edit: "in censuses, the Israeli government classifies the Samaritans to be "a distinct religious community", and the Chief Rabbinate of Israel "classifies them to be ethnic Jews, i.e., Israelites"]. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samaritans.
Here is another article about Samaritans in the Times of Israel, www.timesofisrael.com/film-projects-spotlight-on-israels-tiny-samaritan-community-fighting-for-its-future/
Bottom Line: Samaritans have lived in the land of Israel / Palestine for at least 3,000 years. They were Israelites then, and they are Israelites now.
