    Hey man, I found this very helpful. I acquired a China LSV that doesn’t work and I didn’t know what a shunt was actually for. The one in the car appears as if it was installed totally wrong. It had 2 16ga wires to each side along with the main negative. With you video it clearly showed me it was incorrect. Thank You!

    Have you installed with Enjoybot 36V? How are you determining your threshold for lowest voltage setting to show 0% on meter? If 100% is 40-41V, is your low/dead cart % around 35-36V?

    Love the video. I've been procrastinating this meter for a year. It's the only one I've found that works on the 72 volt system that seems any good. I need to figure out a column mounted box for this and my F N R switch relocation. I can't believe even the new carts don't put a lever on the column or switch so your not making some weird move to change direction.

    Sorry for the question, but I have a Ryobi ride on lawn mower with four 12v 100ah lifepo4 batteries in series (48v). What do I connect to the shunt? The battery negative(s) connect to an Anderson powerpole and into the motor. Where/how would I connect the 'P' side of the shunt?

  • @lazurm
    @lazurm Рік тому

    I found it almost impossible to place the power cable into either one of the power wire inputs that are part of the green structure in the center, top part of the shunt. Since the amperage is so small, I sized a straightened paper clip and pushed it into the input (with the tightening screw as wide as possible, which isn't saying much) and tightened it down. Then I crimped my 14 gauge wire (I realize the hole needed 20 to 22 awg) to a tiny alligator clip and connected that to the paper clip. It's a much stronger connection with little chance of the wire failing over time, especially when compared to the tiny amount of wire needed to directly connect it. I couldn't even fit a tiny ferrule into the hole.

    Installed the shunt in my 48v lead acid golf cart. Everything wired correctly with single negative from pack to B- and all other wires grounded to pack mounted to P-. Meter shows correct voltage, amperage draw etc. Set 100% at 50.9V after batteries relaxed from charging, set 150ah as total capacity as verified on battery. As soon as I take off, the battery % meter goes blank and meter will not show me % but still shows voltage and amperage draw. ANY IDEAS????

    My battery has an app that indicates the % charge, current charging/discharging and voltage. I have also installed a panel meter that is similar to what is in this video with the same shunt. Today the battery went into protect mode when the app showed 50% and the panel meter showed 30%. Not happy about pushing the cart home. I will contact the battery manufacturer Monday morning, but do you have any ideas about this? Seems to be very difficult to know how much charge is in a LifePO4 battery since the voltage curve is so flat and the fact that the panel meter reads about 0.2 volts less than panel meter. Perhaps a better way is for a meter to measure the amps used since last charged to 100%. Coulomb counter? Your thoughts?

    Hi Ryan, another question for you... I have the BigBattery Falcon Elite kit with this battery meter installed. I have the blue 48v to 12v convertor that you often use and a fuse block for accessories so everything turns off with the key. Can I run the power wire for the meter off the convertor so it turns off with the key or will that make it not read the battery % correctly? The backlight remains on at all times. It only turns off when the cart is in tow mode. Any suggestions to get this light to turn off when cart is not in use? I followed your install instructions exactly. 6 x 8V Trojans on a 03 club cart DS. Thanks

      I think mine the backlight goes to sleep after so long. If you want to only use the gauge when the cart is on you could run the small power wire through a relay to the key switch to power it on and off with the key switch.

    Sorry for being dense today.
    Im at the 5:00 mark of the video and your explaining how the wires get connected to the shunt.
    I still dont understand the purpose of the shunt.
    Is this a safety device?
    Does this act like a main fuse link? Is it resettable?
    Does this prevent a electrical fire?
    How would you check to see if the shunt is working?
    If all you want to do is install this battery monitor then why cant you install it right to the battery terminals.

    • @Fentertainment
      @Fentertainment  11 місяців тому

      I’ve made a dedicated video for the shunt meter but will explain more in that video. The shunt is a device that measures amperage to/from the battery. A regular meter doesn’t work as good as the shunt meter.

      I guess that would depend if the shunt b- is only on the battery and P- is going to the golf cart, charger & accessories. If so then I would say so.

      You can, HOWEVER.... The distribution block cannot have the grounds from the battery. The Grounds have to be on the ground side of the shunt only.

      @@toledojeeper2932 you have 2 batteries, distribution block that came with batteries, dc converter and a 12v fuse block with ground right. Take the ground wires from the batteries that attach to the main distribution block, unhook them and attach them to the B- side of Shunt. Run a New Ground Wire between Shunt P- back to the main distribution block.

    • @windsurfertx1

      Also, my HTRC charger would not recharge it from dead, it showed "Off" on the screen. so I strung out 4 x 12 volt small chargers in series to wake up the BMS which got it up to around 57 volts and that did not work.
