Hi guys, today I am rewatching your reaction to Pentatonix live, I was so excited to see that you had reacted to this a year ago. I want to send anyone reading this my condolences for the loss of Queen Elizabeth, my entire life, when anyone said The Queen, there was no question of who they were speaking of, even for those of us in America. She , for me, has been the epitome of Royalty and my heart breaks for everyone.
Scott does the bass when Avi/Matt sings. Kevin is actually a tenor. Recommend Come Along, Happy Now (original), and Seasons Of Love (televised on PBS).
First, they hum better than most sing. Secondly, the wall of sound that they do so well. Goosebumps!! They did make it their own Thanks for the great reaction!
First 😁 Scott does the bass when Avi is singing btw.. Kevin actually is a tenor when he's singing. Listening to them always makes me realize how fake and overproduced and manipulated 99% of today's music is. They are more talented than most people in today's top 100 charts. I recommend more of their live videos. Like the Pop Spring concert. 👍👍👍
What you need to know is the Leonard Cohen said this was his favorite version of his song ever done. They are on a different level. Each one has a range and ability is beyond belief!!!
I don't know where that rumor about Cohen saying that got started, but it has never been confirmed, and in fact his caregivers have stated that by the time the song was released, Mr. Cohen (who was dying of leukemia) was no longer cognizant enough to have even listened to it.
@@larrywt656 Just came across this video and am happy to read your comment. I believe it was in an magazine interview with Scott that he said he had been "told by someone" that Cohen said it was his favourite version. Since it was released before Cohen died I've always thought it was possible he could have heard it, but I assumed he was too busy trying to get as much of his new work written/recorded as possible before he died. As for Cohen's favourite version, he thought highly enough of k.d. lang's rendition to ask that she perform it at the Vancouver Olympics instead of him. I do think he might have appreciated that Pentatonix sang it more as an anthem rather than a dirge. I must be the only person in the world to not like Jeff Buckley's version -- incredible talent, but too focused on loss.
Actually Scott covers the bass while Avi is singing. If you enjoy hearing Avi sing watch Light in the Hallway, Standing By or any of his solo work. Thoroughly enjoy your reactions.
Even though it's not with Pentatonix, would highly recommend Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair. It's Avi and Peter Hollens. It is highly layered, but that doesn't hide the raw talent there, and Avi has a sick run in that song in a range that you shouldn't be able to do a sick run. Just incredible.
Everyone who listens to this song on their video and then listen to this live version....many think the live version is just as good. Oh, and by the way, the video version has 630,000,000 views !! Super, super good, despite it being a fan cam recording, and it's one where you kind of need to be ready to appreciate the awesomeness of it. I think you're ready after watching this one (and almost falling off your chairs). Thanks for this!!
This live version is fantastic, but you should check out the official video just to see it...the visuals are stunning. Kevin is a high tenor and couldn't sing that low even if he wanted to. Scott ALWAYS takes over the bass line when the bass singer takes the lead. You can actually see him in this video slip seamlessly into the bass line when Avi takes the lead. This has become a staple of their live shows, they still perform it in just about every concert, and it's still just as amazing as the first time they ever sang it!

I'm trying to forgive you for pausing in the middle of Mitch's amazing solo lol. Can you imagine trying to stay on key while remembering "This is where I sing harmony, okay now it's my solo, wait now I need to sound like an instrument" while also remembering when and where to walk or sometimes they even add a bit of choreography. The way they all use the same vowel sounds, start and stop at precisely the same time, match their consonants perfectly, so no one ever sounds slightly off is mind-boggling. So many times when Mitch and Kirstie sing together in the background, it literally sounds like one voice. They match each other that well.
@Kidlitwriter They always amaze us and when you break it down into all the sections as you have it is even more mind bending! They always deliver and amaze. We will return to them soon.
Completely different level, exactly! I love that you two recognize that. They are absolutely unbelievable, each with such uniqueness. PTX is in a league all their own.
I love seeing people being gob smacked by these amazing people ❣️. Enjoyed it guys. For their Christmas music, may I suggest a banger by them, O Come All Ye Faithful and my personal favorite, The First Noel. They “Pentatize” Christmas music so get ready.
Scott takes over the background base. Kevin is a tenor. Hallelujah isn’t a Christmas song, it’s not even a Christian song. Leonard Cohen, the songwriter, was Jewish. It’s about a love affair gone terribly wrong and how a broken heart has a space to let God in.
So happy to hear you say you think they’re on another level. I just love them. To me, they are the pure embodiment of team work at the service of beauty and art. Glad you enjoy them as much as I do. 🤗
You guys are on a roll! My 3 favorite artists, Angelina Jordan, Haley Reinhart and Pentatonix all who happen to have the 3 best videos on You Tube, IMHO. Angelina's "I Put A Spell On You", Haley's w/PMJ "CREEP" and PTX "Hallelujah". THANK YOU!
The only link to Christmas is PTX put it on a holiday album. The behind-the-scenes story is that they were going to change the lyrics to a more holiday-specific version but after trying it a few times they realized they needed to do the classic original version. Which isn't actually Christmas-y at all. As an aside Leonard Cohen heard this before his death and he loved this cover.
@@joebarnhart4460 First off, Cohen's publishers would only allow Pentatonix to record the song if they used Cohen's original lyrics, which was a stipulation Cohen had placed on the song in his final days. Also, I don't know where that rumor about Cohen saying that this was his favorite version got started, but it has never been confirmed, and in fact his caregivers have stated that by the time the song was released, Mr. Cohen (who was dying of leukemia) was no longer cognizant enough to have even listened to it.
@@BritPopsReact , thank you guys, that would be awesome! Can’t hear their rendition too many times , it was so obvious how impressed/touched you both were by the performance ❤️
Massive, massive appreciation for Pentatonix. As I've said before, their talent and the AMOUNT of talent in this group is simply unfair. I really enjoy watching folks reactions to this one because its just so good. Lot's of head shaking and jaw dropping moments for sure :-). Avi's got some solo projects, that you should take a look at. His song Change on the Rise is amazing!! Actually, when Avi or Matt, the bass singers, sing the lead, Scott is the one who fills in the bass......watch this again and you'll see Scott doing the bass........Kevin actually has a high voice, and you'll know from a few other songs they do......
I thought the video for their rendition was stunning...and then I saw this version! I totally agree with you that it's a stunning version, one of the best if not the best I ever heard! Oh my goodness guys, I’m stealing WiFi to watch this, (I’m still away) aren’t they amazing, I’m so glad you chose the live version. I can’t thank you both enough. To me Penatonics music is always Banging but to get a BANGIN from you guys makes me so happy. Thank you so much for sharing this video xxxxxxxxxx.
@Elaine Howard Glad that you enjoyed it and we really did too, that was such a treat to watch. They well deserved a "Bangin" from us two!! You have fun out there... Catch up soon.
Actually, if you look over Avi's right shoulder while he has his solo, you will see it is Scott singing the bass line. Kevin, when he sings, is a tenor. Scott has a totally ridiculous vocal range... as does Mitch, but on the other end of the scale.
You guys get this wrong every time, Kevin is a tenor. Scott covers as a bass, he listed as a baritone. I hope you are off your back track being played behind them kick. They are just good and use very little special effects. They are just bloody amaze, eh!
@Thomas Briggs Thanks for watching and all the information. Yup, very amazing indeed, especially the bass by Kevin 😂 OK, so we got it wrong again!! We will do better next time.
If you guys are interested in doing more reactions related to Pentatonix, I recommend checking out Avi Kaplan's solo work. He first released music under the name Avriel and the Sequoias, which will seem like a band from the youtube videos but is actually a solo project where Avi is doing a majority of the vocals and all the instrumentation for the studio recording, only using backing musicians for live performances. My favorites under this name are his cover of Outkast's Hey Ya!, as well as the originals Sweet Adeline and Aberdeen. And then he's also released music as Avi Kaplan, again doing all the instrumentation and vocals. My favorites here are Change on the Rise, I'll Get By, and Otherside. The man's artistry and talent are truly awe inspiring. He has just the purest, most soothing voice that I think I've ever heard. And while he is primarily known as the original bass for Pentatonix, he really shows off his upper register in most of these suggestions, aside from Change on the Rise. Enjoy
@Faith Reasons Yup, too true. We have so many things we want to do and just not enough time. We will try and get to those too.... pheeew overtime coming up!!
Whoo hoo! At last! We all knew you would be blown away by this. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and could see that their performance was doing something to you. 😊 I have been to a PTX concert and you feel Avi's base in your chest. They are phenomenal live as you now see. Its a Bangin + from me.
@Faith Reasons That must have been amazing and as soon as the bass kicks in, it just makes us smile!! We did enjoy that very much. What an amazing thing to witness and what talent too. Thank for watching and glad you enjoyed it too.
Their Hallelujah video has over 600 million views I think that says it all about PENTATONIX and the incredible talent that just flows from these young folk's. Great reaction lads keep posting 👍🍀😁
As with all things PTX this is great; I love this song and this one of my top 3 versions: Jeff Buckley, PTX, and K.D. Laing. K.D does a very different take on it, check it out some time.
Great reaction, guys! Now that you’ve heard the live version you wanted, I highly recommend that just for yourselves, you watch the official video which was filmed in the California desert. It’s an incredible video which coupled with the studio recording of this song is awe inspiring and not to be missed.
@Susan Peterson Hell and thank you for watching. We will let this one site a little and then more than likely follow up with the music video to get the full experience. Thank you for the information.
Shortly before he passed, Leonard Cohen the gentleman who wrote the song, heard Pentatonix's cover of Hallelujah. He said it was the best cover of his song he had ever heard. So glad that you reacted to the live version say that you and anybody else watching we'll know that they sound the same. There is a video on UA-cam titled Pentatonix shows you why they do not need microphones
I don't know where that rumor about Cohen saying that got started, but it has never been confirmed, and in fact his caregivers have stated that by the time the song was released, Mr. Cohen (who was dying of leukemia) was no longer cognizant enough to have even listened to it.
@Susan Stein Ah, yes, now that you mention it, he was Jewish, we do apologise for that. We maybe got is mixed up as it was from their Christmas Special. Thanks for the comment and more from PTX coming very soon.
Kevin’s voice is _way_ higher than a bass. He’s also the only one that does sound effects so if you don’t hear those in the background you can tell he’s not singing in that moment. Some instances of this are during their covers of Imagine, Amazing Grace, and Mad World. Scott is the one that takes over the bass when Avi/Matt is not singing. His range is mindblowing
Hi guys, my husband, a big leona Lewis fan, keeps telling me that it wasn’t Leona who sang hallelujah, it was Alexandra Burke. Hope you can prove him wrong, he’s acting very smug… xxx
@Elaine Howard Hello to you and your husband and sorry, but he is right!!! Me and my big mouth, Leona recorded "Your Hallelujah", but it was Alexandra Burke who released her cover of "Hallelujah" during her X Factor audition from 2008. So, bragging rights to your husband, but it does show they he is actually paying attention! So that has to be a bonus.. Thanks you both for watching and have a great vacation, 3 weeks sounds great!!
@Elmar Winkler Hello and thank you for the comment. Yes, we will try and get to something from Avi and we do like to find interesting avenues to look down too.
I dont know what you guys are doing next for pentatonix but if you what to do some others before Bohemian Rhapsody their cover of No by Meghan Trainor is really great. I love it because the video is just them sitting in formation doing their thing, so you can see what everyone is doing… since you seem to really enjoy watching what each of them is doing…
@Siena Hello and thank you for the recommendation. We do like to check out the other songs from artists and this sounds like a good one to put on our list. Thanks for watching.
@Lynn Soeth Thank you for the comment and we will try and do that before our next Pentatonix reaction and give some feedback on it. Thanks for popping in
People ordinarily do this one to prove there are no verbal tricks. It isn't a Christmas or Christian song at all. The writer is Leonard Cohen who is Jewish as is Avi and using old testament stories of broken sexual affairs and betrayal. (Samson and Delilah). I have never understood why it is on a Christmas carol L.P. using the term Hallelujah has confused many people. I am going to ask for Avi Kaplan on his own again at some point for your evaluation. "Standing By" is a Pentatonix song that he wrote and they did as a tour only special or "Light in the Hallway" also PTX done off 🎤 at concerts again as a tour special only with Avi singing lead. A good old Scottish I think folk song he does with Peter Hollens is "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair". Gives you a view of his pretty outrageous vocal range. Solo his most viewed is his "Change On the Rise". Quite successful and used in TV programs. Avi's music videos are very different from Pentatonix and he says he sees it as a picture as he is writing ✍ the music. Glad you enjoyed this performance. Stay safe. It looked like in my state of Colorado the worst was over but we are back in masks again. Sigh.
I think they were originally going to do an actual Christmas version of this song (this one, I think ua-cam.com/video/mNO8mdaqhH8/v-deo.html ), but for some reason they didn't feel like it was working, and ended up switching to the original version last minute, and still put it on the Christmas album.
@@queenofgreen83 the only thing I saw was that Cohen would not give permission for the definitely Christian lyrics they wanted to do. As stated it is a song about a sexual relationship gone wrong.
There is a #short of Scott singing all the parts from “sorta low” to very high! He has such a great range. I’m happy someone finally mentioned when he took over bass (even though Scott is the one who takes over bass).
@the_nikster Hello and thank you for the very kind comment. We will be returning to PTX soon and always enjoy hearing them, they are such a joy. More coming soon.
👉👉GUYS!! Scott is doing the bass!! When Avi was singing Scott standing next to him was doing the bass!! Scott does bass duty when Avi or Matt have a singing lead!! Scott also hits AMAZING fallsettos!! Scott is a baritone..Scotts vocal range is AMAZING!!!💯💯💯

You guys should DEFINITELY go see Avi if he comes back around your way! He just did a tour of the US and Europe! It’s something you won’t regret! And the tickets aren’t ridiculously priced if you go to the venue he’s performing at itself to get the tickets! (Cut out the middle man at these ticket sellers) Im May 2022 here in the states in Nashville (at 3rd and Lindsley where he performed,) it was $75 for a VIP Ticket. You get in early, get an autographed pic, a bag he designed, a VIP TAG, and he comes out before the concert to sing a couple songs and talk to the crowd! Including answering questions. It was THE BEST $75 I’ve EVER spent! I would spend double to do it again!The prices may be different there, not sure! But whatever it is, it’ll be worth it! You HAVE to check him out when he comes back to your part of the world!!! Great reaction as usual guys!!
That’s true Liz, reason we said it as the stage arrangement has Christmas trees on it, so would have felt more at home listening to that one at Xmas time :)
Come on guys.......Kevin is a soprano......who's voice is closest to Avi, Scott. If you were paying attention, you can see Scott, covering for Avi while he was singing lead.😎
Kudos to you for reacting to this..I have been waiting. Another live recording is Gold. Just sitting around singing! It is so awesome! I didn't think too much about it the first time I heard it, I listened to the Orig. artist and they used all kinds of techno and instruments. Then went back and really appreciated the talent and perfection of PTX, with only 5 people.
Well then, let me get my Christmas list out early :-) For me, their best Christmas songs are O Come All Ye Faithful, Carol of the Bells, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (yes, a group with no instruments doing a song with no voices -- and it won them a Grammy). All their other stuff is really good too, but these are the four that really resonate with me.
You just have to do Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine!!!! You will be blown away! Also, Amazing Grace and Dance of the sugar plum fairy are so good! You just can't go wrong with Pentatonix!

And 12 Days of Christmas is a must!
@elaine courteau
It was such a great watch and we are really impressed with all the talent they have.
Thanks for watching.
THANK YOU!
They are so amazing. Scott is doing the bass when Avi sings. Thank you for your reaction.
When Avi sings, its actually Scott doing the bass 🙂
I must have missed the part where Christmas became relevant 🤨But these guys is some good!
@Mike McDevitt
We were just referring to the part that it was from a Christmas Special show.
Hope you enjoyed it.
The music video has had over 600 million views and I love it, but I prefer this live version, so powerful ❤️. Love PTX
@Janet Lawson
It was great to see it done live.
We may do the music video too as we have not seen it as yet.
Thanks for watching
@@BritPopsReact , thank you guys, that would be awesome! Can’t hear their rendition too many times , it was so obvious how impressed/touched you both were by the performance ❤️
More chills per minute than from nearly any other source.
BTW gents.....one does NOT interrupt a Mitch Slap moment ;-) It's like interrupting a guitar solo to Pentatonix fans. LOL
Cheers guys
Scott takes over the bass singing when Avi has his solo.
Hello bros, do you know the WALK OFF THE EARTH’s cover of SOMEBODY THAT I USE TO KNOW.
it has millions and millions of views… if not, don’t loose the opportunity they are unbelievable
In the title of the video you will find ‘5 PEEPS 1 GUITAR that is the right one

Hello and thank you.
We have so many request and will try and get to this one too.
We have it noted down.
Thanks for watching.

Check out the newer version from their Christmas tour 2021....it has Matt, is live, and absolutely amazing. Also, Joyful Joyful from the same special!!!! Great stuff
Hallelujah is not a Christmas song. Listen to the lyrics. It's about broken relationships.
Actually, when Avi or Matt, the bass singers, sing the lead, Scott is the one who fills in the bass......watch this again and you'll see Scott doing the bass........Kevin actually has a high voice, and you'll know from a few other songs they do......
Great reaction. Thank you for sharing your time with us. ☮️

For Christmas, you have got to react to their "Mary did you know?" cover. That one is truly special too. ua-cam.com/video/ifCWN5pJGIE/v-deo.html
I thought the video for their rendition was stunning...and then I saw this version! I totally agree with you that it's a stunning version, one of the best if not the best I ever heard! Before Christmas season is done please react to their "Mary did you know". It is also crazy good! ua-cam.com/video/ifCWN5pJGIE/v-deo.html
@Elaine Howard
Glad that you enjoyed it and we really did too, that was such a treat to watch.
Nope. Can't find words for that one. Perfect is the nearest I can get
@donepearce
Totally agree with you on that.
Do the Evolution of Beyonce....she enjoyed it!!!!
Amazing song and love your reaction!!
You guys get this wrong every time, Kevin is a tenor. Scott covers as a bass, he listed as a baritone.
I hope you are off your back track being played behind them kick. They are just good and use very little special effects. They are just bloody amaze, eh!
@Thomas Briggs
Thanks for watching and all the information.
Yup, very amazing indeed, especially the bass by Kevin 😂
OK, so we got it wrong again!!
We will do better next time.
Kevin is a tenor... Scott takes over bass when avi (or matt now) isn't doing it
No, Scott takes over the bass when Avi sings...
Scott takes over bass when Avi sings...
You just got "Mitch slapped"!
And then you slam into the PTX wall of sound !!
Even better than the official video...
Enjoy
Please check out “Evolution of Michael Jackson” - the official video is live, they’re just singing to the camera - it’s incredible!
Yes! Too many Evolutions to mention, Ariana Grande, Rhianna, Beyonce etc. Shows how they've developed and harmonies tighter and more epic over time.
@Faith Reasons
Yup, too true.
We have so many things we want to do and just not enough time.
We will try and get to those too.... pheeew overtime coming up!!
@EmDet 22

Whoo hoo! At last! We all knew you would be blown away by this. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and could see that their performance was doing something to you. 😊 I have been to a PTX concert and you feel Avi's base in your chest. They are phenomenal live as you now see. Its a Bangin + from me.
@Faith Reasons
That must have been amazing and as soon as the bass kicks in, it just makes us smile!!
@philipem1000
Hello and thank you for the comment and the recommendation.
Great reaction, guys! Now that you’ve heard the live version you wanted, I highly recommend that just for yourselves, you watch the official video which was filmed in the California desert. It’s an incredible video which coupled with the studio recording of this song is awe inspiring and not to be missed.
@Susan Peterson
Hell and thank you for watching.
We will let this one site a little and then more than likely follow up with the music video to get the full experience.
Thank you for the information.
Sorry but they are out already.....
Pentatonix is amazing enough without having to make rumours up. I don’t know if he liked any version more than kd lang’s.
They are using microphones.
@@bingobillable of course they are ! It’s a concert!!!
Hallelujah isn't a Christmas song. Leonard Cohen, the songwriter was Jewish. You just posthumously converted him.
@Susan Stein
Ah, yes, now that you mention it, he was Jewish, we do apologise for that.
We maybe got is mixed up as it was from their Christmas Special.
Thanks for the comment and more from PTX coming very soon.
I enjoyed your reaction to this amazing cover. I look forward to your next Pentatonix reaction.
I think you're forgetting that Avi can do overtone singing. That's singing 2 notes at the same time.
@@heidifruchtl354 ok but this isn’t about him lol
Hi guys, my husband, a big leona Lewis fan, keeps telling me that it wasn’t Leona who sang hallelujah, it was Alexandra Burke. Hope you can prove him wrong, he’s acting very smug… xxx
@Elaine Howard
Hello to you and your husband and sorry, but he is right!!!
Just a comment .... Kevin is not taking bass while Avi sings - Scott is. 😃😃😃

@Lynn Soeth
Thank you for the comment and we will try and do that before our next Pentatonix reaction and give some feedback on it.
Thanks for popping in
Scott do the bass
Please do more PTX!
Sigh.
PTX put non-Christmas songs on all of their Christmas albums. Nothing really to understand, they just like to.
I think they were originally going to do an actual Christmas version of this song (this one, I think ua-cam.com/video/mNO8mdaqhH8/v-deo.html ), but for some reason they didn't feel like it was working, and ended up switching to the original version last minute, and still put it on the Christmas album.
@@perfectkismet not that I am aware of.
@@queenofgreen83 the only thing I saw was that Cohen would not give permission for the definitely Christian lyrics they wanted to do. As stated it is a song about a sexual relationship gone wrong.
@@gailseatonhumbert9199 This is correct.
There is a #short of Scott singing all the parts from “sorta low” to very high! He has such a great range. I’m happy someone finally mentioned when he took over bass (even though Scott is the one who takes over bass).

Always love your reactions:)
@Laura D
Thank you for the kind comment, we appreciate it.
Thanks for the support too!!
This version of Hallelujah always makes me emotional, but my favorite will always only ever be Jeff Buckley. It's practically celestial.
