    A very refreshing documentary style atheistic to your climbing videos Andrew, which I feel will fill a relatively untapped space. As someone who has battled with climbers elbow for over two years now, I wish there had been more mainstream focus on injury prevention on youtube in the past. Keep up the great work.

    Andrew and Dave, I'm going to be in Scotland and Ireland in September for the first time and I've been toying around with the idea of finding a few boulders to break up some parts of the trip along the way. I SWEAR this came at the perfect time! Thanks for the content as always and thanks for the idea! I'll definitely be visiting the Ruthven Boulder!

    2:30 Iam happy to see even a extremly expierienced climber like him still readjust his grip
    EDIT: i noticed Dave readjusts his grip a lot-ish also compared to andrew were both climbed the same route @4:06 @5:04 Andrew did not readjust that hold while Dave did. Maybe it's just a habit of dave :)

  • @Xeratas
    @Xeratas 5 років тому +1

    That was awesome edit. You know, I really love it when a video manage to let me forget where iam currently and Take me on a trip into a different place. The Music was so calm and atmospheric, love it. Also tomorrow in a weak i'll go on a trip to france Fontainebleau, my first ever outdoor climbing explierience and this video really pushed my excitement even more.
    Btw i noticed dave only using 3 fingers a lot even if the holds look big enough for 4 fingers he bend his pinkie on most holds, is there any special reason for that or were the holds just smaller than they looked?

    • @natalieminnis
      @natalieminnis 5 років тому +1

      Dave climbs open-handed to avoid finger injuries. He explained it all in Andrew's previous video.

    • @AndrewMacFarlane
      @AndrewMacFarlane  5 років тому +1

      Ya, as Natalie mentioned Dave prefers the '3-finger drag' because there is less strain on the tendons when compared to using a full crimp. He has had many finger injuries so this reduces his chances of getting hurt. Being able to use just 3 fingers will take time to build up the strength (I feel super weak using it), but keeping an open hand grip is ideal (though of course a full crimp will inevitably be needed in certain situations).

    Dave MacLeod's pinkies: the most under-utilised digits in climbing. Imagine how hard he'd climb if he used them? Beast.

    You've done a great job here mate. A great mix in the audio of commentary and non intrusive music. I think a gimbal on the climbing sections would make it cinema quality, still amazing as is though. Keep it up!

    How do the named routes work? Do you have to use the exact save holds?

    • @AndrewMacFarlane
      @AndrewMacFarlane  5 років тому +1

      Routes are established then named and usually graded by the person who climbs the first ascent of the route. You don't need to use the exact same holds, but when some climbers want to make a climb harder or create more lines on a boulder then they will 'eliminate' holds to make a climb harder and/or send the route in a different direction. Guide books will usually tell you where to start and which line to use with the associated name and grade.

    interesting to see that Dave prefers using only three fingers most of the time, what's the theory behind that?
