I tried redrilling my baseplate holes on my actual truck by screwing in a riser pad and just drilling straight thru the holes but learned right after that the bolt holes are slightly bigger than the screws. Thus actually making the drill not precise and slightly offset. Rly pissed me off
A good way to increase accuracy and decrease slipping with your drill bit is to use a brad point bit. You can use the bit to mark on the guide also as it won't slip as much with that angled tip

This has happened to us too! Such a pain!! But it inspired us to make a simple guide to make it easier.
