      hahaha I know Mr. Lorn, at least we can agree on the movie, I thought if the movie stayed true to the ending and Morgan Freeman's eyebrows were removed than it would have been better, but it's still my guilty pleasure.

      Agree! Dreamcatcher is a great book. It's in my top 10 Stephen King books for sure. I love all the internal dialogue between Jonesy and Mr. Gray. Not to mention the cat and mouse chase involving Kurtz, Henry, Owen, Jonesy, and Mr Gray. It baffles me that Dreamcatcher gets such bad reviews. I would love to see the movie done right.

    I just finished this novel for the second time. I enjoyed it almost as much as I did my first read, when I was a teenager. For me, it's hard to go wrong with a good alien story, and I adore King's twist on this species' invasion. Unqiue and well written, as always. Glad to hear there are others who enjoyed this novel as well!

    This book holds a special place in my heart. It was the very first Stephen King book I remember picking up and skimming. My older brother had bought a paperback copy, and since I was too young to fully digest the prose, he'd rave to me about certain scenes and characters.
    The scene wtih Jonesy and McCarthy in the woods...I'll go out on a limb and say that it's one of the best-written scenes in any King novel. To think that he owes much of this book to Oxycontin...

    I can see why people are not a fan of this novel, but, when I read it, I loved it. It is one of my favorite King novels, definitely in the top ten. My favorite scene was the flashback when all of the kids were together and they saved Duddits, it just shows that even though there's so much suffering in the book, there is still some heart in it. What I don't understand is why people hate it. It's not a bad book, it's King, so it's extremely well written, so I don't see a problem with the writing. Like I said, I can see why people don't like it (and I'm not really a fan of science-fiction), but I don't get why it's one of the most hated King novels.

    • @LandonA
      @LandonA  5 років тому

      I agree with you completely. I think people go into the book knowing that it's a not so loved book so they have expectations that are bad so they come out at the end not liking it and over looking a lot of what this book has to offer.

    Henry - Robert Downey Jr
    Jonesy - Joaquin Phoenix
    Beaver - Ryan Reynolds
    Pete - Henry Thomas
    Duddits - Tom Hardy
    Col Abraham Curtis - Keith David
    Owen - Chris Pratt
    Cross your fingers for a better and scarier adaptation.

      I really don't know why people hate this book. I think people are influenced by greater minds. King said it wasn't his best, so everyone says, "Oh yeah ... it DID suck, didn't it?" NO!! It didn't. It was fully involved like his other 600-pg novels. If you watch the special features of the movie, King is pretty adamant about the book AND movie being pretty good. So there's always that.

    I had never heard any good reviews for this book but for some reason, maybe it is because I love the X-files and alien invasion movies, I decided to pick this up and give it a read as my next Stephen King book to read. I am just past the halfway point and I LOVE this book. I'm having a really hard time putting it down. I love Edward Lorn's videos about Stephen King but I think he is wrong on this one. I get the fart jokes and everything at the beginning but I love it. Maybe it goes to complete shit at the end but I find that hard to believe. I look forward to finishing it and letting you know what I think of it but I'm glad I saw your video because it kind of encouraged me to give it a chance. I was going to read it anyway but having someone else rate it as one of their favorites did kind of push me to read it next. Thanks for that.

    Subscribed. I watched your entire video. Duddits got Jonsey to be hit by the car, so Jonsey's heart would stop briefly, which made him immune to Ripley and Mr. Gray. I have to wonder where Duddits got his power. Perhaps Duddits purposely got those boys to bully him so the other kids would stand up and protect him, so they could make the connection and save the world. I listened to the book on Audible. I felt the chase at the end was drawn out. It felt like half the book to me. A was chasing B who was chasing C. It felt like Stephen King padded, as if paid by the word count. I watched the movie when I was half-way through the book, and I was looking forward to that final boss-battle when Duddits turns into some kind of competing Gray, but it never happened. No helicopter either. I guess movies have to spice things up, plus no Epilogue in the movie. There was also no worm hatched from an egg in the book at the end. The movie did a great job in visualizing Jonsey's mind as this huge library of boxes. The scene where we see labels on the boxes for ROCK N ROLL LYRICS, APPLE G3 LAPTOP HOW THE DAMN THING WORKS, XXX-RATED, COB-WEB SECTION, SPORTS HUMILIATIONS, etc. I love that idea. There's a lot of visual nets that look like a dreamcatcher in the movie. The roof of the library is a dreamcatcher in glass. Kurtz has some kind of glass radar that looks like a net. The power they used to find the girl produces some kind of net. So the movie did add a visual flair beyond what the book describes, plus the music was great as Jonsey was moving boxes of his memories to be burned. My favorite thing about the book was Jonsey locked away in his own brain, visualized as that library of boxes, which he could then hide from Mr. Gray. I also like how Mr. Gray was becoming human. I like the scene in the book where he eats raw bacon and mayo sandwiches. I like fish-out-of-water stories, and aliens discovering how amazing Earth is and how much pleasure the human body can obtain.
