Definitely with you on the teenage hero; I get it but at the same time, it IS fun to see a variety of ages because it really shakes up the dynamic of the story. Like a Dragon is a good example, but look at Joel in The Last of Us (not a JRPG, but the way it transforms the story line, which all JRPGs heavily center around). I usually lean more into simpler leveling systems, but I sometimes dig the full-on customization with leveling up. So long as there's not scaling enemies that take away the point of leveling up; cannot stand that. If I grind my butt off, I WANT to feel OP!
Yeah it be nice to see more variety with ages in JRPGs rather than always teenagers. Oh yeah I'm sure I'm more in the minority with complex level systems. I enjoy both simple and complex, but when I get to fully customize and try out many different things, I just love it
Awesome video, Joey! I agree that the amnesia trope is so cliche and annoying, I find it to be such an obvious excuse for late-game story elements and plot twists, lol. And Shulk not telling his friends that he knew the future irritated me 🤣
Alright grandad, you sure it’s not just old age 😜 (says the 38 year old…….) A friend of mine said that with anime it makes the audience more hopeful/nostalgic if the protagonists are teenagers, it means the viewer and I guess players to live vicariously through the medium 🤷♂️
It might be old age haha. Like I said I understand making the whole teenage hero thing and I mean so many games that star teenagers as the main character heroes are some of my favourite games ever. I just like to see more where the characters are older
Ah yeah, we do all have our “pet peeves” with JRPGs as well as what we love about them
Yep no matter how much we love them, there's always going be something that also irritates us

Thank you! Yeah the amnesia trope is used way too often and feels so lazy. And yep Shulk not telling anyone of his visions I got so mad haha

Oh one I hate is when you win the fight and then the boss still wins in the cut scene BUT if you die in the fight it’s a game over?!?!?!
Yes that's a trope that's also annoying to deal with. Lose in a fight, game over. Beat the boss, still lose in the cutscene but the game continues
@@TotalLevelYT it’s BS!!!!
