It seems to become a pattern now that non MLP channels are reacting to mlp songs, then starting reacting to episodes by popular demand. Will MLP be getting another Renaissance?
i mean its not just the songs, im guessing the songs are easy to start with, but mlp itself is so good that people will get curious and hooked in the more they watch it. i had a friend who said that he will never watch the show and was even making fun of me for watching it, but then because of a bet, i forced him to watch few episodes and then he finished all 9 seasons in a few weeks

The donkey's name is literally "Cranky" LMAO That was actually what the episode was about! If you guys are thinking about continuing this series, I recommend you listen to "A Kirin Tale" and "You'll Play Your Part"
it's more about how Pinkie is desperate to make him her friend and honestly, he is right to be mad at her :3
For the characters who probably sing the most (Pinkie Pie, Twilight, Rarity) they actually brought in different VAs for the songs. Although they do a good enough job of "the character" that the difference isn't really noticeable.
Pinkie and Rarity it was because the VA's couldn't really sing in the characters voice. For Twilight, they swapped in Rebecca Soichet more because Tara Strong was the only one who wasn't local to where the show was made, recording her lines in her home studio and sending them in rather then being in the booth with the rest, which made singing a lot harder to handle.
Yeah the only noticable one is Rarity because her singing VA is way more low pitched. The others aren't noticable at all unless you pay REAL close attention
The Cutie Mark is the mark that ponies have on their flanks and its the representation of their talents, what they are meant to do do... a reflection of who they are. On that song, their Cutie Marks had been swapped so they were left doing jobs that were not theirs and completely uncompatible to them.
5:19 there is actually another song where Twi sets things right - A True True Friend (and in my opinion, it's even better than What my cutie mark is telling me). The one you listened to is better as a storytelling song than a song on its own, and it hits differently with context.

Y’all are on a roll with these reactions. Which I always enjoy. And with that comes fun facts/story context.
Bats, from the episode Bats, has a pretty straightforward story. During harvest season, Applejack comes to find that part of her orchard has been overtaken by vampire fruit bats. They essentially drain the life out of apples from the outside, ruining AJs crops for the season. Rightfully upset she request the help of her friends to clear out the bats. However Fluttershy being the animal lover than she is points out that if AJ sectioned of a part of her orchard for the bats, they in the long run would spread the seeds of her apples, making more trees in the process. The group themselves ganging up in the end is questionable. Rainbow Dash dislikes the bats cause they will interfere with that years cider supply. Pinkie Pie just joins cause it’s catchy. And the others are unknown.
What my Cutie Mark is Telling Me is the second song to be released in the shows first musical episode, Magical Mystery Cure. Due too an unfinished spell performed by the shows main, Twilight Sparkle, all her friends cutie marks were swapped. The definition of cutie marks were still abstract back then but the generally agreed definition were that cutie marks represented a ponies talent and destiny depending on how they view them. Due to Twilight’s interference all her friends roles and life careers were swapped with each other because they believed their cutie marks were telling them this was their purpose.
And finally one of the most iconic songs in the series, Smile ,or the Smile Song, from the episode A Friend In Deed. Very much a pure character based song explaining Pinkie’s main purpose in life. Since she was a kid, Pinkie’s main life goal is to bring a smile to everypony she meets. She’s bubbly, goofy, and always looking to make someone laugh. And this song perfectly encapsulates it. Everyone in town is her friend and she makes a point to treat each and everyone with an energy she hopes will make others happy. The donkey in the end, Cranky Doodle Donkey, being the first challenge she encounters on her goal. Shenanigans ensue.
These reactions are always so enjoyable, seeing people have fun with the songs and enjoying the way they’re each presented. And seeing y’all try and imagine the story for each song is always a joy. If you ever do get to the show it’ll be an exciting watch.

AJ was fully in the right in Bats! Everything Fluttershy put out as reasons the bats are useful only applies to the role in nature and the larger ecosystem, not to an orchard where they give zero benefit. If AJ wanted more trees, she'd have more trees, there is only a finite amount of fruit trees you can fit onto a set amount of land for maximum yield, too many and they just end up crowding each other out and none of them getting enough resources to produce good amounts of fruit, plus you want the trees laid out in pattern, not just wherever the seeds happened to fall, and on top of all that, the trees in apple orchards are never grown from seeds, it's too random, new trees are grown from cuttings of the best performing existing trees to maximize output.
Not to mention there is no reason to have the bats stick around in the first place, the fact they only show up every few decades means they are highly migratory, why woul they then suddenly change that to just camp out, and why should AJ try to encourage that instead of just minimize the damage they do to her orchards until they move on yet again? And given how much damage they did so fast, how were they suddenly perfectly fine staying to just one small part of the farm that they should have drained dry inside a day?
Nothing about Fluttershy's point makes any sense aside from "These creatures serve a purpose in the wider natural ecosytem" which is true, but means nothing for dealing with a very much not natural orchard while ignoring the damage they are doing.
Just remember this is a spoiler if anyone doesn't want to k own abt it but want to see the show
spoiler much. if we want them to watch the episodes, probably shouldn't tell them every detail.
Could I explain the context of these songs? Yes.
Could I explain the lore and backgrounds of these characters and places and such? Yes.
Am I going to? No.
I'm gonna give totally random and unimportant facts.
First song, Bats. Applejack, the cowgirl pony in the song, has an entire closet full of hats exactly like that one she's wearing.
Second song, What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me. Twilight, the purple pony, is a librarian.
Third song, Smile. Pinkie Pie, she told you her name, has a party planning cave. A Batcave, where she plans parties and keeps records on every single pony in Ponyville.
A lot of the characters have separate VA's just for singing for one reason or another, such as the VA not really being a great singer overall, or just having a hard time singing in the characters' voice, or just logistical issues. Did make it kind of hilarious when the singing voice for Twilight ended up being the VA for another major character, leading to Twilight kind of talking to herself a lot.
But praise the Smile Song! Never fails to make you feel happier when watching it!
Yeah, the Equestria Girls song Right There in Front of Me is a duet between Rebecca Shoichet and Rebecca Shoichet :)
The best part is when she harmonizes with herself, and you can tell which character is singing which part of the harmony, and the one with the lower voice sings the higher part. She's just that good.

The Smile Song is one of my favorites in the entire show. It's just so cheerful!

A lot of these songs have only been from the first half of the show, and they’re still bangers. Music from the second half has so many gems that even if you’re a vehement hater you’d have to admit that the songs bop.
'Bats!' is a really good episode, and it also further emphasizes the fact that magic in MLP FiM uses the logic of Charmed. If it's used for ill purposes or personal gain, it's often prone to backfiring in some way.
Of the six main characters, there are only 4 voice actors. Applejack and Rainbow Dash share a voice actor, and so do Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy. However, most of the main cast actually have multiple voice actors. There's a different VA for singing from regular dialogue, since singing in character is difficult.
They did specifically look for singers when casting the VAs. In fact, the composer Daniel Ingram once told the story of how he got in the show. He ran into Shannon Chan-Kent (who is a musical theater actress) by chance at a grocery store, and mentioned to her that he was planning on auditioning for the show, and she said she was as well, so they recorded the Laughter Song from episode 1 together and submitted it, and they both got in. Daniel ended up writing all the songs from MLP generation 4, including the movie and Equestria Girls (over 200 songs in total). And Shannon was Pinkie Pie's singing voice, while her normal speaking voice is Andrea Libman.

Pinkie pie has a seperate voice actor for singing because ontop of her high voice singing would strain the original voice actors voice

About the "What my cutie mark is telling me", it's not about a story about defying the destiny you're supposed to accomplish and more about finding your right place. But more explanations would require spoilers and I don't know if you want that :3

Both Michelle Creber and Claire Collett went on to become singers. Creber voice Apple Bloom, the little yellow pony with the bow, and Collett voice the little white pony with the pink and purple mane. Collett didn't do a lot of singing in the show though, Creber did most of the singing for Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle.

Out of all 6 of the main ponies, 4 of them share the same voice! Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie have the same voice actor, while Rainbow Dash and Applejack have the same voice actor. Twilight and Rarity have their own Voice Actors, but they all also voice many more other important characters in the show. They are very talented!!
Twilight Sparkle, the purple pony, is actually voiced by Tara Strong, a cartoon legend! She also voices Timmy Turner, Harley Quinn, Bubbles from the Powerpuff Girls and SO MANY more characters.
So the reason “what my cutie mark is telling me” seemed to end so abruptly is because it’s actually the first part of 2 songs. It basically set up for the episode and the next song.
The last song is Pinkie Pie singing about what she loves to do: to bring smiles to everypony. It is a song that it's at the beginning of the episode, being the reason why it ends with Pinkie facing a cranky donkey called Cranky.
Fun Fact, some of the characters voice actors, and character singers are two different people. As an example twilight sparkle is voiced by Tara Strong while her singing voice is provided by Rebecca Shoichet.

It drives me crazy that the official MLP channel edits their videos of the music. Usually it's subtle, but it was painfully obvious during "What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me," with the way the characters weren't singing their lines because they used different clips. If it's possible, you'd be better-off using the fan-uploaded videos - they're unedited, taken directly from the show. Letupita725HD, Sugarcube Corner, and Flutter525 are generally reliable uploaders.

its funny how you say all those characters could be singers since there are only 4 actors for the 6 main characters. I was quite suprised to hear that applejack and rainbowdash were played by the same person. Pinky and fluttershy also share 1 voice actor

I'd like to point out in the bats song. Fluttershy is an animal expert so she knows everything about what the bats really do, and applejack is just some farm girl who's complaining about the short term
Fluttershy is also very kind-hearted and can struggle to be firm with animals. Admittedly I've only just started rewatching the series so don't have a later example yet, but in the first season in the episode with those creatures that kept eating all the food and multiplying, fluttershy kept one, despite knowing how quickly they multiply and cause chaos, while moving them out of ponyville causing them to have to do it again. Meanwhile applejack isn't just some farm girl, she and her family have been doing this basically their entire lives, and attempting fluttershy's solution risks her and her family's entire livelihood.
Defiantly give the show and movie a watch! It's quite good.

Can I just say. I had flashbacks to a certain animated variation of Pinkie Pie’s smile song there as soon as the chorus came in. As far as I’m aware, is no longer on UA-cam either. Which checks for the sheer amount of trauma that was caused to 12-13 year old me back then

Not all the voice actors do the singing voices for their characters. The voice actor for Rainbow Dash and Applejack is the same person, her name is Ashley Ball and is the lead singer of a band called Hey Ocean. Andrea Libman is the voice actor for Pinkie Pie and Flutter Shy and only started doing minor singing roles for her characters later in the show, more Flutter Shy than Pinkie Pie. Tabatha St. Germain is the voice actor for Rarity and Princess Luna/Nightmare Moon, she doesn't do any of their singing roles. And Tara Strong is the voice actor for Twilight Sparkle, and she doesn't do any of the singing roles for her character either.
