- Well, this one was crazy run. Not only did I unlock the robot, finally got all the Master Round, unlocked the shortcut to the fourth floor, accidentally lucked into the Lead God trophy (seriously, I didn't think I would play this long enough to get the platinum), was able to give the elevator guy the fourth Master Round, plus I had his annoying other request (six hearts), I was also able to defeat the Lich to earn the Gungeon Master trophy (seen here). This run also had the potential to, from what I understand, unlock bullet, but that will have to wait I suppose.
Anyway, despite having an absurd amount of items. Seriously, count the number of things I had. I had practically no synergy. I just had luck in spades, since even in the end it wasn't skill that won this for me, it was sheer dumb luck. I think we all know I should've died at the end or at least had to put up more of a fight, but I'm not going to complain about the game giving me an easy win.
For those curious what type of synergy I had going, my items were as follows...
Clone (free life), Master of Unlocking (more likely key drops), Lichy trigger finger (fires faster), Mimic Tooth Necklace (turns all chests into mimics), Junk, Red Guon Stone (improved dodging), Ammo synth (gain ammo from kills), Smoke Bomb, Dog, Heart Bottle (one heart), +1 Bullets (better bullets), Space Friend (the spaceship), Ballot (?), Bullet Idol (deals damage when I take damage), Table Tech Rocket (tables act like a rocket when flipped), Bloody Eye (slower bullets), Backup Gun (shoot from behind too), Bullet that Can Kill the Past, Heart Locket (one heart) , Ballot (?), Ring of Mimic Friendship (stopped the chests from being mimics) and Ring of Chest Vampirism (heals when you break a chest).
So, basically, the only really useful thing I had going for my guns was +1 with a bunch of garbage guns. I also had an item that gave me keys, another item that made them worthless and then another item that stopped the previous item from turning them into mimics (this isn't bad synergy).

I like how afterwords you are just launched out of the gungeon. It's like the gungeon is just saying "you changed everyone's past and banished all evil from the gungeon, now get out"

+Ruzgar Yasar No, actually there are four bosses who are located in the past. Those are the main quest to kill, hence killing the past of all four gungeoneers. The Lich is only reachable after killing all the four pasts.

Dragun is harder than lich tbh. In the same run i took like 6 hits from the dragun and 3 on the lich (0 P1 1 P2 2 P3) no gun upgrades happened in between the 2 kills and the same gun was used.

Finally realised what was happening, because he had the shoot backwards weapon buff, the number of bees he was releasing doubled, he sent 600 bees from the hive to fight for him, and then dozens more from the stinger missiles. Very clever move.
I just had my first fight against the lich. Didn't realize he even had other stages. Got to the third stage and I was like, how is this not over? It's INSANE! I died on the third stage unfortunately.
This isn't a new thing. The final boss of all 3 ninja gaiden games (on nes) has 3 phases. Dracula in castlevania 3 has 3 phases.

I just recognized the Guon stones. There's an old D&D magic item called an Ioun Stone. They float around the user's head and each color gives a different buff.
and the "Gungeon Master" title for lich is a reference to dungeon master of D&D, cuz he controlls the Gungeon

Impressive. I have only fought the Lich once and died in the second phase. Looking at this fight, seems like a few well-timed horizontal dodge rolls could handle at least some of the second phase attacks. My mistake was freaking out and using all my blanks in the first phase because I had even less HP than you did going in. I only made it to him because I used the BSG to clear every room on the way there. Maybe there's hope. A little more luck and a better strategy might win the day for me.

I just beat Lich for my first time. It was stupidly op clone run, I had 7 out of 10 hearts, countless guns, passives and 2 op items (I was a pilot) - potion of gun friendship and orange I didn't even have to use. That fight was faceroll for me since I had 14 health and Orange had ability to give me my 10 hearts back and I lost 4 hearts. That was some sick Sans-like fight and here I see his attacks are different. Maybe they are randomized or I didn't get to that "phase". With all that broken stuff I had, I got hit 8 times and felt stupid after that, gratz on getting your kill with only 3 hearts left.

The lich is hard only because bullet hell enemies are bullshit and you’ll have to pass at least 10 rooms to get to the lich, so when you get to him you’ll probably have like 2 hearts.
I advise you to run a rainbow run and if you got lucky and saw Gunther gun take it with no hesitation and also if you saw shock bullets

Thanks for all your great videos and tips that you wrote in "pushstart"! Initialy i was getting my ass kicked, however seeing your videos i managed to learn a little better the boss pattern's and now i'm close to win my first past character :).
About the video: Interesting that even this ending don't touch about the calamity. Maybe it's impossible to prevent it in the first place, so all that remain's is to the character's to eliminate the facts about their past's that they regret? Still i don't understand how after they change it how they remain in the gungeon( lore wise). Like if the Hunter is from like 1.000 year's ago, and her doesn't got frozen anymore, how she even goes again to the gungeon?
Anyway, just rambling i had thinking about the story, maybe the only one that did care about it haha.

It might be a paradox avoidance thing. Logically you can't travel back in time to correct something that never happened, because there wouldn't be a reason to travel back in time in the first place. So if I went back, prevented getting frozen, then there wouldn't be a version of me that prevented it from happening, thus it would logically happen again. It could also be that this paradox is why you "throw away" your future. You essentially have no way to correct the past, thus your future is just trying to correct it.
+Anatale As for me, I think that "killing the past" is the absolute last thing that any character accomplishes during their stay at the Gungeon. Yeah, I know how the Lich is unlocked by defeating the past boss... but, judging how the Lich's ending works, I'm more prone to belive that, in story, everyone is able to get their bullet just after sweeping the entire Gungeon from every enemy. Story and gameplay segregation?
So first time fighting it.
I had no idea what i was doing because i was just spamming the remote controled rocket launcher with marine so reload time was pretty quick and just finished it with bees.

I'm trying to play this game, but I can't get chamber 3 or 4 sometimes. Could you give me tips to get through chamber 5 and 6? While my editor isn't exactly thrilled with me, I did recently write an article for a site I write for with a bunch of tips/tricks. They're basically a bunch of random notes/things I learned to do across my many playthroughs.

A lot of this stuff is going to hinge, not only on your awareness/skill, but luck too. Obviously a run where you get Megahand will be easier to progress in than one with Alien Engine, just like certain guns are boss kills, where as other guns are meant for mobs.
"How I get strong to get down the chambers? "
The best advice I can give is really trial and error. Most moves can be avoided by either using cover, range or getting close. It's important to know when to do which and this really comes with time. Another thing is to just keep trying stuff. Just because people say XYZ is awesome, there is a chance you can get something others hate, but you're simply great with.
Finally managed to beat him just now, had Black Hole Gun which sucked up all the bullets + Railgun with maidens shield, backup gun, and Ring of triggers which filled the whole screen with epilepsy. It was disgusting.

Wow I feel kinda bad I just killed the lych but I never saw the pattern you had in phase 1 and 2, I guess I killed those two too fast, While I had really hardcore phase 3 when we saw none of his pattern in your vid lol
They must have buffed the Lich in the recent update. I've gotten to him a handful of times now, and his patterns and attacks in the first and third stages seem quite different (second looks similar, though). I mean, in your fight, he was just sitting there spinning for the last 30% of his life. What was up with that?
Anyway, I watched your video and I thought the Lich would be easy. I can get him to the third stage, but he always gets me >_
He lucked out a ton at the end by cancelling all those bullets with the stinger
He wasn't just spinning. Usually that is one of his hardest attacks to dodge since he covers almost the whole screen with bullets, but there used to be a glitch where even though an explosion would cancel the bullets, he wouldn't register the attack as being cancelled and still keep spinning. It has been fixed since then and if you cancel the bullets with an explosion, he moves onto the next attack.

In fact, I have beaten the Lich while still having the Old Crest on my person, perhaps one of my greater personal EtG achievements.

A lot of the BoI players seem to have issues with the difficulty, mechanics and what have you, so these are things to also keep in mind.
With that being said, you can easily put in 10+ hours and not even make it to the final floor, much less get an ending/make it to hell.
+Admiral Vic Yeah, i got 900 hours+ in total of Afterbirth and the vanilla BoI, it was rough getting used to the mechanics but after my 10 hours of failure and rage i beat the dragun for the first time :)

i'll be damned....this boss deserves the title gungeon master...even though the dragun is probably more deadly in concept of mythical beasts and its size, this guy make up for deadliest being that can be human sized, use of a gun, forms, and magic

+BlossXdexfan After fixing the 4 characters pasts, next runs will allow for Bullet Hell on your way to the Gun that kill the past. After the Dragun, in the dimension with floating bullet platforms, stand in the middle on the way up

I got this game 2 - 3 weeks ago and I think I am making some pretty good progress. There is just one thing standing in my path, this fight. I am having so much trouble with this fight, I use The Bullet and I usually get to Lich and always die. One time I even had Gunther and I got him to a last bit of health on the final form and I died. Anyone have some tips to, "git gud?"
Tad late haha, but for anyone else, here are some tips:
Assuming you're using rainbow mode now. Use robot + spice and get OP.
Always take clone before any item from rainbow chest. Clone gives you 5-10 extra items depending on how many secret floors you go to, so you have many more chances to chose the item you would've gotten otherwise from it.
Always take an S tier gun at floor 1, if you don't get one, quick restart, it's hella worth it.
Break every chest on every floor for junk, since robot gets +5% dmg with junk. Also aim for tons of Master Rounds and buy armor and ammo from the shop every time. You don't have to, but if you get a map or have composite gun with ammo to spare, try get junk from secret room chests too.
A few gun combos are insanely overpowered. Betrayer's Lies synergy alone carried me from floor 1 to beating the Lich, without ever using a single other gun. It's shield is pretty nuts too, I rarely ever moved during any boss fight, including all 3 forms of the Lich, you just need to know when to reload the shield. Similarly, Adventurer's Bandana + Composite gun is bonkers as well.
Try avoid cursed items, unless they're really really good.
Once you have a good gun(s), try and get items and sometimes (rarely), you could even get a good shrine buff as well. Passive items are your main goal in this scenario, the more and higher tier, the better, since they literally add passive buffs.
Watch videos for tips on how to dodge boss attacks, AND ALWAYS AIM FOR THE LACKEYS THEY SPAWN FIRST ALWAYS. They usually aren't an issue alone, but are beyond deadly when paired with the boss' attacks.
Use the online fandom wiki to figure out what the item you are about to get does before choosing to pick it, it helps a lot.

I killed him on switch with elder blank, full metal jacket, helix bullets, the stinger, beholster pistol, and backup gun. Every beholster reload was 4 minions every stinger shot was 2 hits, and elder blanket jacket saves you from alot of damage which is needed because the lich runs like hot garbage on switch.
Hello, I have a problem with my runs. I have died in this game over 100 times. I can't beat the 5th chamber more than once, I have beaten the 5th chamber on my 67th attempt. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, I dodge well i flawless the first 2 chambers consistently. But I still get stomped by Treadnaught and the 4th chamber bosses or the 5th chamber regular rooms, and I just keep getting crazy hard rooms to beat. Could you possibly give a guide on how to flawless the hardest bosses with commentary or show us what we can do to prevent as much damage possible?

I've noticed that the Treadnaught is the least consistent boss in terms of difficulty. Sometimes he will just spawn enemy, after enemy, after enemy, after enemy, after -exhales into a sigh- enemy... and other times its just shotgun blasts that I can easily avoid.
The only consistent way I found to deal with him is to use cover for as long as possible, focus on the adds instead of the boss and consider getting an extra blank or two going into the fight. A good blank can turn a fight around.
This is also a good boss for using elemental damage against. Like make him stand in flames/poison/electric water.
"4th chamber bosses"
I find the Wall to be, by a wide margin, the easiest boss to get. A lot of people overthink that boss, resulting in them thinking he is hard. Believe it or not, all you need to do is the following.
Pick a side, hang as far back as possible, NEVER GO IN THE MIDDLE, walk between as many bullets as possible while constantly shooting forward and then advance when the wall of bullets comes. If you dodge while running towards the bullets, then you should get past them without a scratch. This fight is also stupidly easily with something like the face melter. Take a shot, instantly reload, double damage, watch em melt.
For the cult leader, well, he is tricky. He just so happened to be the boss I got my Lead God trophy against, which you're welcome to watch ( ua-cam.com/video/SKG9J9jIr-g/v-deo.html ) to see if you can learn anything. Despite having like thirty items, it was a hard earned win that was more about my skill (not a plug, since any idiot can beat a boss flawlessly in twenty seconds) than having good gear.
The pillars come down to two major concepts. The first is that, even if it's not good damage, guns that shoot through enemies is invaluable against him. The next is to pretty much save your blanks for his spin attack. The black orbs do double damage, so it's worth taking that hit if it can save you another hit in the long run. Once you get down to the last one it works similar to the hammers on the fifth floor. They will hang for a second, allowing you to move, before striking. You generally want to get some spread before jumping back to avoid taking damage. This is all the boss will do and you should have ample time to avoid him, focus on the bullets and then dodge.
Finally, if you get the door, then you should be able to handle him. Just remember his eyes set you on fire. I've lost so many times because I don't roll to put them out or roll into other attacks.
"5th chamber regular rooms,"
Prioritize enemies, use cover whenever possible, don't be afraid to flip tables and finally, play a long game. Seriously, there have been so many runs where I've won by just running around until I knew it was safe to attack. Yes, its boring. Yes, sometimes you'll still fail/take damage. But I've won so many rounds like that. Plus I sometimes pull out my side arm and, if you can believe it, go for over the edge kills. Sometimes it's easier to get them near an edge, shoot like five times with the side arm and then watch em fall.
I also, because of how I often do my videos, have a seven minute long video of me hauling that stupid TV through the fifth floor. If there is some demand for it, then I'll be more than glad to upload it so you can watch how I do things/handle certain situations. I also have most, if not all, of my bullet hell attempt. This is the one before this one, but part of the same cycle (confusing I know).

Unfortunately, I've gotten a lot of complaints in regards to my voice. I sounds drab, monotone and pretty boring, which turns people off.

There are a couple of videos where you can get an idea of how I go about saving my ass. However, the best advice I can give is mastering the starting weapon and using cover.

I'm not great at this game, and can only occasionally make it to The Forge with any prospects of beating it, and from my understanding, Bullet Hell really requires the chamber gun to do well with. That is however only unlocked by visiting all 10 chambers... including Bullet Hell! My first visit ended very quickly, my second managed to take in a lot of rooms, but also ended prematurely by walking into a sodding pit of all things. So I wasn't sure I'd be able to do this one! Earlier today I had a good rainbow run and got the clone early on, I got my arse handed to me by the rat by the time I died first off, but I had a decent haul of stuff by then. And then I got some very lucky items after that, the ancient hero's bandana to quadruple my ammo capacity, gundromeda strain for weaker enemies, platinum bullets for increasing damage stats, double vision for some extra damage on use. I opted to go to R&G despite it costing a master round and therefore 1 heart, without the prospect of gaining one back, figuring I had decent weaponry and enough blanks to secure the win. When I got there, I was given the Yari launcher, with a rather huge 560 ammo due to the bandana, sure enough made fairly short work of that floor, and then the forge and the Dragun also fell pretty quickly given the heavy firepower and ammo levels I had. Bullet Hell then gave me a very nice selection of items, hard to choose in fact, but I went with duct tape and used it to combine the yari launcher and the vulcan cannon, giving it a total ammo of 4140! Just had to remember to reload it every so often to restock the yari rockets when it went to just firing yari bullets. And it STILL looked like I was going to get defeated before reaching the boss, but suddenly I was there, with 1 heart remaining... Turns out even forgetting to use double vision at first my weaponry absolutely ripped The Lich apart and phase 1 was gone in seconds, seriously I barely saw what he looked like. 2nd phase he sent a fat lot of bullets my way but I managed to blank them and that was also over quickly. By then my heartrate was quite high! Very little health but 2 blanks left, and it did not take at all long for double vision to recharge so to my great astonishment I killed him and bagged the trophy! Far more luck than talent involved as it wasn't so much a fight as a slaughter, I'd have been dead very early doors with the weapons you had in this video! Now, just need to complete a blessed run, and get one final Winchester game aced (I actually did one in this run and got 3 and a narrow miss on the 4th, gah!) for the platinum...

Sure this has been asked before but why is the key count so insanely high? I've had Master of Unlocking and it wasn't pulling those numbers lol... (not that there's a need for that many keys anyway)
+gmazing82 I had Master of Unlocking (so keys dropped more often) and the Mimic Tooth Necklace (all chests are mimics), so I didn't need to use them after floor like two.
+Admiral Vic That makes sense. When I had Master of Unlocking I got it pretty early, but no necklace. I ended with around 11 keys. I guess anything is possible with RNG. Plus I don't fully understand room rewards as it is how it says "Play well" if there are actual room stats they are following or they just mean clear the room.

@@ametalhead5676 Master of Unlocking; in the end, you can see the items they had. How the hell they managed to get 36 unused keys is the increased blessing of RNG.
KaRyu1017 they say in the description that they had both mimic tooth necklace and ring of mimic friendship - these items synergies to make all chests unlocked and never mimics, so keys become useless, and master of unlocking + useless keys = lotta keys

Most games like this don't have a huge variety of items, like Isaac in reality doesn't have a huge variety you'll se many repeats, meanwhile this game is full of content and different guns, so when I noticed none of the true endings where about saving the land before the ultimate bullet hit I knew there was more content. Btw how do you fight the lich?

Isaac is different and people really need to accept it. BoI is more of a game about randomized stats, where as Gungeon is more about having fun with a concept.
I wouldn't say one has more content than the other, but I would say that I see a lot of the same items multiple times.

Well, all the endings seemed to be going with their concept of having fun. They're not about a larger story, saving the world or any of that, but rather, they're references to things. Convict references Hotline Miami, Marine is Doom and the Hunter is Wolfenstein. I imagine the pilot is a reference to something too, though I'm afraid its not coming to me (I thought Gradius, but it doesn't feel like Gradius).

Get all the bullet pieces, beat every past story, beat the game and then finish Bullet Hell.
+Admiral Vic Pilot is a reference to the old game in which you used to destroy rocks and then this metal monster came in my opinion. I got to say I agree with you because do to the fact that this game is so much harder and challenging(that goes without saying) it adds that element of fun, including all the stupid guns and gun references (my favorite being golden eye gun).Btw you should start live streaming or posting runs on youtube.

While the Gungeon community seems to like my videos, my current subscribers do not. I've lost something like 40 subscribers since I've been uploading these videos en mass and I've hit two all time desubscribes the past two days.
I mean, I do it because I want to do it, but I get the impression I should let the standard people do it and I'll just go my own thing elsewhere.

The references are what I like too. I think my favorite is the light gun, which fires mallards. Then again, I also happen to really like Duck Hunt.

To a degree I agree. I think Gungeon needs some serious rebalancing.
Going off what others have said about shortcuts, they're not there to make the game more accessible (what I would consider useful about shortcuts), but rather, unlock a mode that only the best of the best can possibly beat. To me, this seems like a missed opportunity, because I think a lot of people would jump at the chance of going to world 4/5, even with starting weapons, just to get the hang of things.
The other is that the curse is much steeper and the path to greatness is far narrower than Isaac. Lets face it, there are a lot of "DMG up" items in Isaac and plenty of great ways to become overpowered.
In Gungeon, there are a handful of really good guns, with each catering to a different area. For instance the Megahand is probably the single greatest weapon for killing trash mobs in the game. It has high damage, low ammo consumption and great reserve. There are few guns that can even touch it and boast enough power to beat a whole floor with nothing but it (except the boss) without running out of ammo.
The other thing is synergy. There are very few truly useful passive items. A lot of them fall under the "cool" or "weird category, instead of actually helping you. To put it another way, I could probably do better on a run with +1 Bullets, Lead Skin and Gunsaber than another run with 10 random items.

Barbarous Despoiler it’s probably because of clone, of you die with it, it makes it so that you can get back to life on the first floor and retain all other items

+Untouchedbyu I had the clone item and after falling to the Lich the first time, I got back there a second time. As far as the keys go, I quickly got the mimic item and had an item that gave me additional keys for playing well.

Guess the patched the Lich. I absolutely trashed other bosses with explosive weapons (as the projectiles were destroyed by the explosions) but when I got to the lich, the explosive weapons didn't do shit.

Finally managed to beat him myself. I played as the bullet, the sword helped a ton on the first phase, and the third phase was pretty easy. Second phase though, holy shit....very nearly died there. Definitely the worst part of this fight.
doesn't the robot have a past to re-write or is he just a character to just play about with. also top notch beating his 3rd phase with only 1hp, i couldn't even reach chamber 3 (well i can if it wasn't for gorgun)

No clue. I haven't had a lot of time to play since getting him. Between work, Banshee and food poisoning, the past two days have been pretty rough.

No joke. Gorgun is, by a wide margin, one of the easiest bosses in the game. So easy that I can explain how to flawless that fight almost every time.
Start the fight, but don't shoot (she always swims at the start).
Just loop around, feel free to touch the green stuff (it takes like three seconds to take damage in it) and then shoot her.
If she shoots her machine guns to the side, move towards and roll over them.
If she spins around, walk around the bullets and do a roll at the end if you she does a blast at the end (I forget if she does), just dodge roll over the last set.
If she screams, move forward and move between the gaps. The bullets won't move if you're close enough to her. If you're having issues with this part, just use a blank. It will automatically end it.
Repeat until dead.
oh, I always kept my distance when she screams, must be embarrising cause i died to her 5 times and no victories lol.

You can also avoid getting your guns frozen by looking away from her when she screams, (she's a gorgon after all) I think you can also dodge roll the effect, but I just always point the opposite direction.
