👍👍👍 .. I hope that some take heed of your message. Perhaps contentious to some / many, but respectfully, I am not a fan of You Tube Videos showing 'Emergency Shelters assembled from Natural Resources' and similar. Here are some reasons why. * As you have shown us, they 'could' encourage others (too many at that) to 'go out into the wilderness and play at survival' whilst hacking down a myriad of living Plant Life in doing so 😡. With the Wealth of Knowledge and Modern Materials currently at our disposal, one 'should not' be caught 'with one's pants down' in the Outdoors and then having to improvise. Tarps, Ponchos, etc, etc, etc make that almost unnecessary. * Emergency temporary shelters generally take up a lot of time, energy and are extremely wasteful of resources relative to the benefit they offer. A simple Tarp, some Cordage and a set of adjustable Hiking Poles will take care of shelter in at least, a 10th of the time. AND, it will be impervious to Wind and Water, whilst the other .. 🙄. * Even so-called 'dead wood', fallen trees, etc, I tend to 'leave be'. Yes, I may use a fallen tree as something to sit on, shelter behind, use as a buttress, whatever .. but, unless absolutely necessary, cutting it up and then discarding it again .. No! I let the denizens of the woods .. the 'local yokels' do that for me. * Fire Wood. Yes, if dry and available, I will take dry dead wood for that purpose. That said, I use 'Twig' and Hobo Stoves which are quite resource efficient. Open fires? Generally no, unless in a dedicated Fire Pit and using wood more than often, supplied by Local Forestry (I live in Switzerland .. they're organised 😊). The Climate in my Region, Hot and Dry (with Fire Bans) or Wet (no Fire Bans) and with Windows of Opportunity inbetween, do not allow for as much 'local foraging' as one would like. During very wet times, I use often, wood brought from home that I have previously harvested and sun / air-dried on my flat balcony. Our Forestry Services are pretty good at Forestry Management, so there is plenty to chose from and they have no problem with one 'taking one's share' (the duff) of cleared trees that many of which, will be chopped up and removed for use elsewhere. Charcoal, yes Charcoal, makes for an excellent, safer cooking option. It is efficient, light and takes up little space relative to it's output. There, rant 🙄 over .. Yay 👏. Unfortunately, there will always be those .. the inconsiderates and ill-informed / uneducated who will tend to spoil it for others .. it is what it is. We can only try and mitigate that. A valuable share .. thanks. Until next then, take care ..
Yhyh, screws are a waste of money too, some good paracord is far cheaper and you don’t need a drill to use it, whoever that was brought out screws, a saw, and a drill, there’s far better and less destructive ways to shelterbuild
