  • I recently learned the game of Azul and have now reached master level (between top 10 and top 20 online). In this video, I play a game of Azul on Board Game Arena, explain my moves and share strategy tips.
Normally this is a channel dedicated to competitive Carcassonne. If you like Azul, chances are you'll like Carcassonne, too, so do check out my other videos.

I think "tiles" is correct according to the theme of the game. The term I have a problem with is "deck" instead of "bag". :p

Nice play! The small tactic at the end of round 1 (ensuring you get a group of 3) is one of my favourite plays to make. I was ready to call the game after the end of round 1 as an easy win for you, but your opponent did make some nice moves to make it close.

I feel bad for 57goofy. He must have been annoyingly wondering why were taking so long to make your moves each play.😅

Originally tiles are called "azulejos", which is the origin of the game's name :)

    Hi Alexey,
Thank you for introducing Azul with this video, looking forward to watch next videos and play myself!
I have no experience whatsoever, but may be you can answer a question:
At 18:10 one possible move was to take 2 blue tiles to block the opponent from completing their column (14 points if I calculate correctly) instead of forcing extra 2 floor tiles. It looks like a superior move to me, but I might be missing something. Could you please share your thoughts on it?

You have the right idea. Even better take the black, he takes the black, then you take 3 blues. The black is worth 10 to him and 13 to us so he has to take it.

Thanks so much, Aleksejs, for bringing that content. It definitely helped me organize my thoughts around the strategy. Is there any high level play happening with more than just 2 players?

Its tiles. It says choose tiles right at the top. It's a tile factory and youre making a mosaic

Im 'only' around 560 elo in Azul but this game honestly looked messy from both sides. Your opponent made the most easy mistakes with the worst strategy and still came kind of close.
