0:16 that "you know what" sounds just like the "you know what" sample in hip 2 da game
💀💀💀💀
HAHAHAHA Good pick up, very ironic. But yeah, you can't expect to just take an instrumental and monitize it on UA-cam. Everybody knows the rules, if you gonna use someones beat, it has to be given away for free or on a free mixtape.
broo holy shit lol
As a young 27 year old, I was born in 95 when “Hip to the Game” came out by Lord Finesse. I found out about LF thru Mac & sooner after, all of DITC (as a group and individually), like Mac wished for in this interview.
A bit later, here I am a major DITC fan because of the awareness Mac brought to us. He was ridiculed by his idols so that the world can hear about some of the best to ever do it. People need to realize how hard Mac really worked to get where he was at and the love he had for everyone involved in it. He was working with a lot of names that weren’t going to help him top the charts, but he still did in timeless fashions that still produced success. His songs with talented women and also other underground artists are one of my favorite parts of his legacy
Damn Mac is so soft spoken and coolheaded, the way he talks about this is so chill its like he's completely unfazed lol. I aspire to be chill as him
R.i.p. mac miller
Betty Fuller without a doubt. I miss Mac
Gay
Rip big l
hell yeah props too mac miller keeping it respectful
gotta respect mac, one of my fav rappers
I never heard the mac miller version of the song but yeah I remember Lord Finesse Hip 2 Da Game. CLASSIC!!!!!!
Kool aid n frozen pizza it's a banger
I love Finesse but all the beats (including his own) from his era were based off of sampling other artists music. Seems pretty hypocritical
True, but he cleared the sample for "Hip 2 The Game"...Mac didn't clear anything and the video got millions and millions of views. It's a business at the end of the day.
Honestly, it seems extremely racist. Like he was singling in on Mac just because he got a lot of views and was white. I mean didn't Kendrick sample something? Lord Finesse is always going to look bad because of this. And millions of views doesn't mean millions of dollars? Pay per view? what
@@MystixOfficial Bullshit. How do you know it's because Mac's white? Mac literally used Finesse's beat and clearly he made some money off of it with 20 million views, which left him open to getting sued (music industry 101). Leave race out of this unless you can prove it.
@@irvinglambert9316 I hear you, but most people would take money over "relevance"...it is what it is.
@@irvinglambert9316 the issue is that he didn't credit finesse for the beat AND he made money off of hard copies of his mixtape. Before releasing 1999 Joey badass even joked about putting lord finesses name on the track so that he wouldn't also get sued
haha mac started choken up when the dude said he'll call up Finesse.
exactly right, i would have been fine with mac miller using a finesse beat, IF he remixed it. the fact is he didn't alter it whatsoever, he just completely jacked lord finesse's beat without changing anything to it.
That’s how sampling works sometimes bro.
Guess you dont listen to many NYC mix tapes.
That’s because you dont know what youre talking about. In that era everybody use other people’s beats. Go study the mixtape era Lil Wayne, 50 etc.
@@canguneri8355 BUT he didnt really give credit he just barely mentions him at the bottom "original song by Lord finesse"
@@JSalonsky That's how mixtapes were done back in the day. Half the industry on that time should've get sued then. Like I said, go study Wayne's mixtape era.
the funny thing is that dudes like Lord Finesse sampled everything in there music. They didn't have to clear that stuff back then. When the publisher was pissed, they didn't care. Old school hip hop artist should never be against recycling. Plus Mac's tried to work with dude. I don't understand the saltiness. Maybe its more to the story. anybody know how this case ended?
Its all about a dollar buddy pay up.... its business not personal
Sampling and jacking a beat are way different. Obviously certain producers manipulate a sample more like say a dilla but Finesse made the beat and wrote the original song. This song also got mac pretty big. It helped him a lot and his young fan base that it caught didn't know who the fuck finesse was. He also initially didn't credit lord finesse. You also are operating on the assumption that he never got samples cleared. A lot of times artists dealt privately with the people they sampled. Bit of food for thought i dont think its as simple as you make it out.
First and foremost, RIP Mac Miller. Now, about this situation (I know it's old, but a lot of the people in the comment section can not be more wrong), at the end of the day, this is a business. Yes, Lord Finesse used a sample to make the beat, but he managed to clear that and got that taken care of just like Mac Miller should've done. If you don't follow protocol, especially in this music industry, you will be one of those people that end up with lawsuits and other miscellaneous things. Educate yourself and soak up as much knowledge as you can.
So anybody's remixes could come back at bite them in the ass even though its a non-profit and for promotional use only. Smh. Mixtapes are suppose to be for fun and what not.
Yeah but see as they said, there's a video of it here on youtube which has over 20m views, which is profitable for mac.
its profitable for wack miller and he didn't pay for the sample from the god lord finesse.
LookatthatSH1T yeah right, he sued him for 10 million dollars, do you think a fucking video got that much money for Mac.smh.
Thats not the point. He jacked a perfectly good instrumental passed it off as his and profited from it. Case closed.
He credited the producer, everyone does it on their mixtapes, what's the problem?
Lord Finesse is a legend, but legends aren't infallible. Bottom line is that hip hop's not about letting money get in the way of the music and the culture. And it's not about old school vs new school like a lot of self-proclaimed hip hop heads seem to think it's about. Lawsuits do NOT belong in hip hop. But it's cool. Like I said, even legends can get their minds clouded.
hip to da game was my favorite lord finesse song
your not old you just know good music
Much respect for Mac.
Happy Birthday Mac Miller
"it's cool... What's meant to happen is meant to happen... I just know I don't have 10 million dollars." - hahaha RIP MAC. Miss your humour as much as your music.
To resolve all this .. It's called a fucking cover how u gonna be mad someone rapped over your beat that's why your a producer plus it was a free Mixtape it's not like he said he made it & charged niggaz for it
Great. You do not know who Mac Miller is. He is a small time rapper who looked up to Lord Finesse. He was sued by his idol for $10 million. Not very nice.
Small time rapper who made 6.5 million in 2013
Exactly. Some rappers are earning up to 500,000,000 in a year.
VidGaming name one rapper who earned 500 Million in one year..
Your very clueless on rappers yearLY earnings vs. their net worth! Besides your vets..like Jay, Kanye & EM.. (NOT INCLUDING YOUNG MONEY) not to many rappers made MAC Miller Money..
Hip-Hop's Top 20 Earners
Diddy tops this year’s Cash Kings list, pulling in $50 million over the past 12 months. All in all, hip-hop’s top 20 earned a combined $343 million-read on to see the full list.

lmao shut the fuck up.. idol my ass mac sayin that shit to make himself sound better.. @ 0:56 he says he did his research on L... If Finesse is your Idol you know DAMN WELL who L is
R.i.p. Mac Miller he was a very talented artist.
Finesse was right to sue him
That's what scares me to be any type of producer/emcee
Isn’t hard to throw your own beats but then it is, you just gotta build an eventual flow
Pay what you owe and if not don’t use other people shit and try to profit from it 🤷🏾♂️
It’s a business not a friendship.
Rest easily Mac 💙
I was going to do a tape with all finesse beats....maybe not now....
+Grayson T. Just give him credit and don't take the money you make from the youtube video without saying the beat isn't yours. It's already proven Miller steals beats also.
+Rekt Mac gave Finesse credit on his K.I.D.S. mixtape and the video for "Kool Aid and Frozen Pizza", so I don't see what you are getting at. "La La La" on K.I.D.S. is also produced by another artist, but again it's a mixtape and he isn't making money off of it. TreeJTV doesn't monetize videos either, so Mac made no money from UA-cam.
***** He put credit after FInesse filed a lawsuit! lol
That doesn't change the fact that "Hip 2 Da Game" uses an unauthorized sample of Oscar Peterson's "Dream of You".
@@jakethomas_419 sure. but Frozen Pizza is literally Hip 2 Da Game. LOL. At least Finesse put his own spin and creativity to craft something NEW with Hip 2 Da Game. Mac literally took the beat and didn't change it at all.
Never heard of Mac Miller until today when I was checking out some Finesse videos. Hip hop is built on prior musical achievements; sampling, freestyling over entire beats, emulating styles and phrases -- it's all part of the art. IP law stifles creativity, so I have to say as much as I want to protect content rights, I'd rather have free expression by artists.
Rest In Peace Mac and Big L
Trust me man, I love the 80's and 90's hip-hop and wish we could get that shit back. Lord Finesse brought Big L into the rap scene and L is like a top 5 GOAT and one of my favourite ever. Lord Finesse is a legend, Mac is a new school kid that was inspired by that generation. Despite the fact that Mac may not have done as good as the original, it's just music. Music is for the soul it isn't about money. Suing somebody for 10 mill is ridiculous. Suing somebody for any money is ridiculous.
Yessir. Lost a lot of respect for finesse. Tryna come up off of someone else instead just talking it out . Rip mac. Money make you do some crazy things.
@@josephgaspar2944lol
idc how legendary lord finesse is this was honestly a stupid lawsuit to file, cmon mac released the song on his mixtape where he made no significant sort of money for neither did he make that much on youtube either,he wasnt even big at the time, and not for anything but this is one hell of a contradiction considering finesse made this beat using samples that he never received clearnence for
its not even that he sampled it bc he took the whole beat its that he claims he was paying homage yet he didnt give Lord finesse any credit whatsoever thats why it irked the shit outta me & thats why he gettin sued. Lord finesse has every right to get his credit where its due
Mac would of the the big views either way hes just showing love for the track, Lord Finesse thinks he must of done it to make money off him but its not nothing like that as we can all see clearly
Everyone needs to stop taking sides like we know the logistics to the situation. Peace to Lord finesse who's an OG and a cornerstone to hip hop and peace to Mac Miller for having respect for the forefathers of the rap game which many new age rappers don't have
lol the guy un-tangling the cords at the beginning.
the rap industry is currently fuelled by young rappers making mix tapes over track instrumentals taken from tracks that they love. Lord finesse did the exact thing mac did in hip t da game sample the oscar peterson track without permission, rapped over it and made money from it. the difference is no one wanted to take cash from L and exploit mac little knowledge of the copywrite laws (which btw clearly state that Mac could post the song for parody purposes) but some opportunistic guy did mac
Theres a difference between sampling and using his exact beat for your own song
True, Finesse is trying to get his and is outta line for however much he expects mac to settle for. He coulda just put him on blast instead filing a case. To me, both have their faults. If mac just gave credit in the video from the start instead of after it blewup, he wouldnt have to deal with this drama.
*Lord* *Finesse* pockets must be REALLY HURTING for him to do this to an artist , real talk ! ! ! ! By him doing THIS just showed the HipHop heads that he is now like the Old head in the hood that's hating on the younger g'z for getting it and making alil more paper doing what he USED to do , smh issa *L* ! ! ! !
Jarod Moodley its idiots like you that make people think it’s okay to plagiarize other peoples hard work.
Hip 2 the game was the single of lord finesses album... why wouldn’t he protect the copy rights to it??
Other record labels do it all the time... the sue people who don’t clear the samples
Matthew Sierra literally. i like mac. but you steal a mans beat he produced thats wrong.
Erica Kane thank you! You know what’s up.
Mac is cool but new rappers have to pay homage to the og’s.... especially when borrowing beats...
Peace
Just really think about it harder. Im not gonna say it but its really obv why he did this.
Deeper than that, but your catching on. Watch one of those videos about how nasty the music industry is.
That makes sense. If he had never profited off it then obviously why would he sue him. It is still a business no matter what.
Respect, for him knowing who Big L is.
He Didn’t Deserve That That’s So Evil Man Somebody You Look up to Do you like that
Yes Lord Finesse used a sample, big whoop, that's how hip hop started, taking samples from old songs and making something new. The difference is Lord Finesse cleared the sample, in other words got permission to use that sound to make his beat. Mac Miller did not get permission to use Lord Finesse's copyrighted production. You don't know what you're talking about.
Yo Mac even said on the track.. "All my shit produced by Big Germ"
It said everything I drop is recorded by big jerm
Rest easy kid, you don’t have to worry about this lawsuit or any other petty worldly stuff anymore up there in heaven
That nigga in HELL!!!over dose=Suicide
An accidental overdose is not intentionally killing yourself even if you know the risk of drugs everyday.. he didn't commit suicide and he didn't kill no one. He was a good person who just had issues like everyone else and he used drugs to deal with them not impose his issues on other people and make them miserable. Everyone deals with things in a different way that doesn't grant you HELL... If you don't know GOD forgives your sins... Your so disrespectful.
He's signed to Atlantic. :)
"What do I have to do with Mac Miller being sued? Dude, your all over the place. I can't even understand you any more" I seem to ask myself the same thing about you when you called my family poor and claimed that I liked "Far East Movement".
SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!
My favorite Mac Miller song
Lord Finesse never paid him so I don't know what he was suing for , he himself came up off somebody else's work.
Finesse sampled a few songs and made the beat to hip 2 da game, he didn't rip the whole beat and spit on it like Mac did, which is why Finesse felt like he was owed. The beat for hip 2 da game is a hip hop classic beat, doesn't matter if ppl don't know finesse as much, they hear that beat and instantly are drawn in
Finesse said that Miller spoke in a negative fashion when he reached out to him so he showed him no mercy. Research it.
Fuckin lawyers....everyone suing these days. Macs right. Why don't Finesse and him cut a track together make some money
Who the fuck is mack miller??????
* Mac Miller
Like he said you have to be careful. Its fucked but shit happens I guess
His name is lord finesse omg
You're young, you're not hip.
Young and dumb
Real talk!
People believe they can own information does not equal that they can own information.
Ideas are not tangible assets.
His irrelevant 2 mainstream hip hop but the underground people still respect and the young guys comin n like joey badass and the pro era crew still show respect
peace yall, i think the problem stems from everybdy rippin classics dat shouldnt b rippd, i never rhyme over beats dat the vets graced out of respect but yes dats jus my opinion, if anybdy has ambition to do HIPHOP dey should know how to produce, make your own beats and b original, everybdy wants to rap and git freeee beats, so maybe Mac should pay him something , if he never did, if somebdy rapped over my beats without consent on some mixtape shit ,coool , but at least hit em off. you know?? is jus respect for the architect
Nah, it was on Itunes.
Mac Miller says " you know " roughly 217 times
fam, finesse is far from broke...he still get'n checks from "ready to die' & "The Chronic"...& he get'n ready to get checks if "Detox" ever cum out...Learn Ur History BabyBoy!!!
where's oscar peterson in all of this?
Lord Finesse.
He did more than sample it! It sounded like he flat out jacked the beat. Good for Finesse! The moral of the story is don't fuck with the rap lord lmfao
yeah on a promotional mixtape that makes no money. He blew up on finesses beat. Do you think mac miller would be making the money he does now without that beat? You do have a point tho and i would totally agree if he was already established but how you gonna get famous off someone elses beat? It just sucks to hear people listen to the song as if it was original. That Lord finesse cd " the awakening" is one of the best hip hop cds i have ever heard and i think people need to listen to that.
What he meant by that was, Lord Finesse when he first heard this song (probably a year or two ago), he could've called up mac and mac could've deleted the "Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza" music video and stop playing it at concerts
Peep the interview before you speak young punk
You can see Mac is really cautious about disrespecting a hip-hop mogul like Lord Finesse, but is clearly disappointed with the lawsuit. Using Finesse's beat is more of a way to shout him out more than anything, and it sucks to see Finesse try and take 10 million from a young kid rhyming on youtube, regardless of how much he blew up. Mac is spreading Finesse's music by rapping over his classic beat and he gets penalized for it. Fucked up
Greg Baker The majority of people who listen to it won't know the beat's origin though. They'll think Mac Miller made the beat.
Mack Miller should play a gig at "the Palace".
Wow
All he had to do was give lord the credit in the video.. Woulda been all good
But he said a shout out on the track..
if theres no profit can a person still sample it?
black people and white people, generally, depending of course on demographic groupings, commonly exhibit specific forms of behaviour, mannerisms and social attributes that differ from each other. It's part of what makes white people a little different from black people and vice versa. This is referred to as cultural diversity and it is a great thing about living in North America. Sometimes, white people exhibit behaviours and mannerisms normally associated with black people; "acting black"
People who are talking shit saying " He should Have Asked "OBVIOUSLY have no idea what its like to be an unknown rapper. When your in that stage of your career, all your thinking about is making more music, and when you hear a beat you use it. how was he supposed to know it was gunna blow up like it did. Mac Did Nothing Wrong
Theres a difference to using a piece of a song in the background versus using the whole damn song instrumental
thats like saying famous people in history arent relevent because people dont know they are...
Lord finesse has so much money he didn't need to sue for 10mil. Be happy someone making bread off your beat after the fact you have more money than you even know what to do with. He was just butthurt mac had 20 mil views on his own beat. Smh. Lord finesse was jealous. Tell the people how it is. It wasn't about the money. He was butthurt and jealous.
U need to look from a business standpoint Finesses cleared the sample while Mac didn’t cleared it
PREACH!
Lord Finesse is in the wrong, legally and morally. Skill and popularity have nothing to do with it.
People gotta understand that Lord Finesse did not get the right money on the Fatboy Slim record. I understand that Lord Finesse was like: naaaah man not this time again, somebody getting hot offa ma shit! We taking it to court! And i love mac miller, but Lord Finesse had enough of people taking his shit and getting money of it.
I get it now, sorry. I should have looked at more facts about copyright etc before I posted the comment. After doing the research I understand what you mean. However, Mac Miller never profited from the song, it was released for free on UA-cam. Which means, no money was directly earned from it. I'll search up the laws about that now.
what shoes are Mac wearing? PLEASE HELP!!
but wasn't it released for free?? did mac miller sold his track? so what money is Lord Finess asking??
I love you sway but the Detroit joke was bs.We not all on bs in Detroit.
Fr lol
Still waiting for someone to prove otherwise
@@robertbyrd2073 STFU nigga
Anyone against Mac in this situation needs to go to a psychiatrist. This is flat out extortion. I'm sick of this world and the people in it thinking money is everything. If Mac wasn't rich Finesse wouldn't have cared. Despite what any of you say the truth is: Mac used the beat that Finesse sampled off somebody else :$, and may have made some money performing, etc, but idc if Mac made 10 billion $ off that track, suing somebody for using a beat that you sampled is extortion.
The mixtape was being sold on itunes, he made money off Lord Finesse's work and LF did not get paid. How come nobody understands the concept of IP? (Intellectual Property)
Shut up
yeah i feel him, again its just about haters hatin to see people come. i bet if mac miller was still not shit and saw the video they are talking about lord finesse woulda been like alright that lil dudes got some talent. he wouldnt even thought twice about it. but now that mac is big finesse as to get someof the spotlight on it. jealousy is all it is
damn this hits close to home.
law suits don't belong, and neither do beats being used without royalties...Jazzy Jeff puts it well, he takes Mac's side to a degree, saying that he was stoked that mac grabbed the beat, got on and was not bad on it..I hear that, but cats like Preem, they don't see it that way...I love J's shit but you must side with Preem, only a crazy person would argue that guy about this kind of thing.
why don't they just sue the lawyers before mac miller wow
Wiz is signed to rostrum records.. Its pretty fucking big.
If this is the case then EVERYONE on UA-cam who sings or raps over a popular beat should get sued. Fact is, Mac is gettin sued becuz he HAS the money. If he never got famous, Finesse would never have thought about suing him. It's sad. Mac murked that beat it wasn't like he sucked or made fun of it or dissed em. He did the beat justice. Every MC that ever lived did the same thing Mac did. There isn't an MC alive who has only spit on their own beats. I'm a DJ & respect Lord Finesse but damn
Think about it. If you ever tried to rhyme, you would know you use instrumentals to practice on. So if you made a song from a sample and put it on youtube unaware of the fact that it would be a hit, where does that leave you? He didn't profit either, it was a mix tape, those are free. He merely sampled the song in show of respect. Finesse.
Lord Finesse is a Legend in the game. What are you like 15? You have no idea what you're talking about.
he ain't gonna win doe. How he gon win on this argument "this kid released copyrighted material for promotional use, which is legal.. but it turns out it made him FAMOUS!" cmon Finesse.. read up on them copyright laws, son. This shit is ridicolous.
Damn I lost respect for Lord Finess, thats like Rick Ross sueing everyone using his beats, Ross helps out the hood, c'mon thats str8 wack. This is coming from someone that owns Lord Finess tapes, he failed on that aspect.
Shit rappers
Finesse himself got famous doing using other peoples beats
*Samping other peoples music whether by clearing the samples legally or using samples that wern't under copyright.
It says you like Far East Movement on YOUR you tube page... LOL...
After the fatboy slim situation... It's like "never again"
Funny how fans of Mac Miller don't realize she had her mixtape on iTunes.
R.I.P.
