tomas briggs I like what you said about this video. There is always going to be 99% of everything in this world because nobody is perfect. Perfectness is 100%. That is so true.

UN is the greatest organization in the world, which does amazing job everyday around the globe. To all patriots and nationalists. Which is more valuable to you? Flags and anthems or humanity itself? Respect to all who work in UN and help to make this world a better place! Cheers from Finland!

I discovered by chance that playing the WHO video on Healthy Ageing at the same time as this video provides a lively soundtrack. Perhaps this incident provides a good metaphor for how organizations can strengthen each other through parallel lines of work, without the mutual benefit being immediately apparent (or intended).

I have a question for someone who knows about peacekeeping missions, as I could not really find the answer elsewhere. Do military peacekeeping missions prevent a sovereign force from defending itself? Take this scenario for instance; two nations are at war with each other. Crimes have been committed by both sides, yet one side is the aggressor. The UN peacekeepers land, setting up a base between the two forces. Would this prevent the defender from conducting an active defense of their sovereign territory? If so, then this seems to me to be the biggest flaw in peacekeeping missions.

The provisions of article 51 would still apply, but the type of peacekeeping operation you're talking about is only deployed with the agreement of parties to the conflict. Why consent to a peacekeeping mission if you still want to continue fighting?

The U.N does so many marvelous things for the world and people complain everyday saying how not every country is accepted. I am here to say, the media only magnifies the mistakes of the U.N and dramatically alters the punchline. Their goals and missions are perhaps not comprehensible to those who are heartless.

When it comes to the Pro & Con of the UN even existing I can argue either side of the debate. I could go on for hours about the good that has come from the UN. Sadly, I could go on for hours about the damage and corruption bred by the UN. As for the USA... We should get out as quickly as we can and not let the door hit us in the @ss on the way out! The UN does absolutely nothing that benefits the American People, and we pay for most of it at our taxpayer's expense...

@Independence4UK Of course countries can do that, but that creates private diplomatic solutions.
With the UN all the countries of the world can get together in a organized matter to talk about the issues that plague the world. Without the united nations many people would be starving and many more wars would have been created.

From what I've seen first hand as I've traveled to more than 30 countries over the years, the UN does a lot of very worthwhile work -- if anything, this video understates it. And there not doubt in my in my that getting countries to work together this way helps to tilt the way countries relate to each other towards peace, and away from war.

The people who are the UN are doing the best than can in very difficult circumstances. Eventually it will become a place where international crises are resolved/debated peacefully. Before that can happen the horrific corporate controlled military industrial complex must be shut down. Unfortunately, it is the #1 obstacle to world peace - i wish that were not true but it is. We must beat our swords into ploughshares - and become a functional family! The world waits for the USA to wake up!

Without sharing the world's resources there will be no world justice. Without world justice there will be no world peace. Without world peace there will be no world.

If the UN isnt here today, then many countries would still be suffering from lack of vaccines and such. Many countries would still be suffering from unsafe disposal of nuclear waste, and more.

WE THE ECUADORIANS want The Yasuni Trust Fund to be managed by the UN Development Programme."Yasuni National Park is a fantastic project and a big contribution to save our climate," .
WE THE ECUADORIANS want this FUND not to be administered directly by any Ecuadorian Government. ... (more info) (less info)

"Supports democratic elections." That's WRONG. As the international governmental entity, they are NOT allowed to support or choose one form of national government over any other form. The UN HAS to be NEUTRAL! That's their role.
