Heart breaking to see my hometown Nuneaton now catastrophic demise of the town
I relocated to Nuneaton in 2016 from mid-Wales. Sadly to see the town was even cleaner and modern-like in the 1950s than nowadays. People were dressing decently and the street was organised.
As 35 british Asian I feel so down about my home town is just nothing here
What a complete downfall what used to be a wonderful town

@@Lab4th its mostly cost of living going up and rent for the shops being too high, from what I heard theirs a guy just outside galley common who basically owns most of the units in town he lives in a massive house pretty much a mansion while the town just dies

F, Nuneaton town centre is a mess. McDonald's in the town polutes it and the poundland fml.. ashamed to call this my hometown

The film on at The Palace is 'The Errand Boy', with Jerry Lewis, released in 1961. So nostalgic to see the town as it was when I was growing up.

Looking at these images brought back many memories of the town I left in March 1965. None of them pleasant. Back in the mid to late 1970s I interviewed a young Pakistani bloke for a job. He asked me where I was from in UKLand and when I told him he said: "You speak good Hindi then?" Sadly, he declined my offer of the job. Southern Tasmania is only just far enough away from Nuneaton for my comfort. Even the image of that rather fine building, The Hippodrome, merely reminded me of my first cigarette. Tasmanians have had the commonsense to mostly preserve, rather than destroy, their architectural heritage.
Nuneaton is still a backward, racist, violent and grim place. George Elliott is it’s only contribution.

As a child of the fifties, the systematic destruction of Nuneaton has taken place over my lifetime. It is now a bland architectural ghost town, full of immigrants and culturally stultified. Imagine if the old Mill was turned into apartments, the COOP Hall still hosted top class music and the RITZ Cinema played the latest movies. Alas I feel it is irreparable, perhaps it needs another mosque and more Sharia law.
