She certainly had the aptitude to be great in classical music, but she was denied entry to a conservatory because she was black. She talked about it in an interview later in her life. As beautiful as her gift was and her contribution to jazz was, she felt she would have been happier had she been allowed to study classical piano.
I just want to give her a massive hug but it would've spoiled the moment.. Bless your soul Miss Samone not only for representing your people but for representing Humanity.... You take me to a special place with your music every time..

Reading her autobiography brings me to her encountering her first boyfriend as a shell of a person of who she knew him as. She chose her life in music over him, rightfully so, but since Edney’s mother was so stuck on them being together, she never let it down even after he had married her friend after she went off to New York. This performance channeled that feeling in one portion at least, where you can see different waves of nostalgia coming up in the song. I’m honored to be from North Carolina and revere this phenomenally artistic woman. She proved that only she could do that.
What an incredible performance by Nina here? It has to be one of the musical highlights of the 20th century, pure soul! This is what is missing from today's music, artists no longer represent personalities and music has become a visual treat (often in poor taste). Nina definitely felt what this song was, a truly magical dreamy sensational piece of art, coming straight from the heart 10/10!

This was the theme song of my senior year HS Homecoming formal dance in 1976. I went with a guy I really liked, who also liked me just as much...but we knew we weren't the right fit for each other longterm. It was as close to a perfect evening as any could be. I cherish the memories we shared. He passed a few years ago. This rendition perfectly captured the emotions involved.

I think she figured out I was a sniveling coward and cut her losses…… I didn’t blame her one bit. Years later, I heard she married Larry Hayes…. he was a ok guy I guess….. I think back sometimes of how life would have been if I had the guts to ask her out??? Like the song says: “ feelings like I never had her……….feelings like I never lost her…….. Ms. Simone had that important ache in her eyes to sing that song !! … and I never new she could play piano like that!!!!…OMG Anyway…… here I am at 66 1/2 years old and…… it seems like we were teenagers 15 minutes ago!!!..lol We’ve learned a few things about life and love since the good ole 70’s I think. Married and divorced now….. Since the pandemic ended… Ive been feeling like a “teenager “ all over again…. working on a few wonderful projects……… my writing and music still deliver the energy and hope needed to be excited for another day and bring that” FEELING “…. to others!! nobody makes me cry harder than nina, especially since she reminds me of my grandma who has slipped due to dementia and death’s door is around the corner :-( they’re both very complicated and were not always the greatest person, but it still hurts my heart how both of these strong women have suffered and were misunderstood immensely throughout their life
she leaves weeping and comforted and asking why and trembling and wishing I'd looked her in the eyes to know what it feels like to feel her soul while being seen... she leaves me... speechless? cause even if I write all that she makes me feel, she would be able to make the list short, no matter how extensive

they’re both very complicated and were not always the greatest person, but it still hurts my heart how both of these strong women have suffered and were misunderstood immensely throughout their life
