Floor and Simone have been very good friends for a long time, and they asked her to join them on this song. Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor) the guitarist and male singer for Epica started out with Floor on her first group After Forever and then created Epica. They all got a long history with each other, and lots of respect. Don't they sound beautiful together.
Hello from Vancouver, Canada guys. Their chemistry on stage is magical. They have been good friends for over 20 years now. Floor always does cameo appearances on Epica's Live Retrospect shows. Both fronting amazing symphonic metal bands and both unique in their own talents. You should also react to Stabat Mater Dolorosa .Note: Simone was 3 or 4 months pregnant during that concert.
There has only ever been one Retrospect show - it was their tenth anniversary which is why they had a full orchestra & choir on stage with them

This was Epica’s 10th Anniversary Retrospect Show - that’s why the had an Orchestra & Choir and Floor invited as a Special Guest for a couple of songs too.

You are correct Andrei. Sancta Terra is Latin for Holy Land. Correct again Andrei. Floor and Simone are very close friends. They actually live together when they were younger.

I love metal! It finally happened. You learned to fully appreciate that not all metal is angry and filled with darkness and screaming vocals.. There is beauty to be found! Welcome to this special club Dominika!
I read quite often that they shared a house once upon a time, but I never got reliable conformation on that. When Floor did a virtual get-together with Simone for her UA-cam channel there also was no mention of this. I'm not convinced it is true.
Simone was a fan of After Forever when she became Mark's girlfriend. It actually may have been the last straw that got him booted from After Forever (sleeping with fans). It seems unlikely that Floor and Simone were very friendly towards each other at that specific time. When Sahara Dust/Epica became successful, any anger quickly dissipated, but at that time both were sufficiently successful to be in need of a bunk-mate.
I think someone mixed up some people and then wrongfully mentioned this and from there every one jumped on board with the mistake (because it would be so cool if it were true). They did live in the same town, so it would be possible, but unfortunately that does not make it true.

but they lived far apart in the Netherlands, Floor in Brabant and Simone
in Limburg as young women.
That living together is just a myth.
@@patverum9051 Floor was born in Goirle in Brabant, but as a teen she lived in (or as they say over there ON) Reuver in northern Limburg...the birthplace of After Forever and Epica.
Simone was asked this question and answered it a couple days ago, in her new video. She said they were never roommates with Floor and that this is simply not true.

Sancta Terra is a song from the 2007 album, The Divine Conspiracy. This performance was from EPICA's Retrospect 10th anniversary show in 2013. A 3 hour show with orchestra and choir, and Simone was about 3 months pregnant. Floor was invited to join them. She did one other song with them here, Stabat Mater Dolorosa.
Album version has only Simones vocals in this song, i guess Floor was asked to join, she joined them in one more song in this concert.
Epica usually doesn`t have featured guests in their albums, exception is their latest album, The Alchemy Project, where every song has different artists on it. There are two music videos from that album, both are worth checking out, one is The Final Lullaby (feat. Shining) and other - "Sirens - Of Blood And Water" feat. Charlotte Wessels & Myrkur.

Simone and Floor are not only Dutch.

EPICA is a heavier and more “international” feel in some songs than NW. Simone is every single bit the vocalist as Floor. As a band Epica is more intense and heavy than NW…even deathcore heavy in some songs with guys shred voices opposing Simone’s archangel vocals…works SO good. My favorite band by far. Great reaction. Don’t deprive yourselves of much more Epica here. Do them live, they like Within Temptation will at times perform with orchestras and choirs, something that NW never does.

I am from Apeldoorn. Metal surely is growing in our country. There are more people who listen to metal than u think. Epica is my favourite band together with Eluveitie.

Notice the incredible respect between the two dear friends, neither making a single attempt to outdo the other. They made the performance amazing by lifting each other up to greater heights! Epica is a band appropriately named. So much fun to watch you both enjoy this so much!!
I think you two will love The Skeleton Key and Freedom, both from EPICA’s latest album Omega! As a big NIGHTWISH fan I recently discovered EPICA and they are amazing too😀

Epica don't have any weak albums, I promise! You' won't be disappointed. However, some songs can take a few more listenings to fully enjoy. It's a complex music.
And Simone's voice, especially on the earliest albums, is incredibly beautiful. Her operatic head voice was unlike any other voice I've ever heard. Pure magic! Start with their first album "The Phantom Agony" and hear for yourself. 😉

Good ear. The intro uses notes from the double harmonic scale, most notably used in Eastern music.
I am so lucky! This year I went to concerts of Epica (20 year anniversary) and Nightwish. Next year I will go to Epica (yes, again), Floor Jansen (solo) and Ayreon 🤩

Floor and Simone goes way back, and have done some phenomenal duets together, like the two here in Epica's 10 year anniversary - but they also guested each other on stage, on festivals - like the duet 'Sweet Curse' from Floor's ReVamp days.
Floor only did this song for this 1 concert. The entire concert is 3 hours and 48 minutes. It's called "Retrospect". It's a 10th year anniversary celebration concert.

This song already existed, it's taken from Epica's third album The Divine Conspiracy from 2007 and it is basically not a duet. Simone wrote the lyrics for this song. She might have sung it a thousand times by now I guess, most of the times on her own.

If I remember correctly from some interview, Floor and Simone would at some time been room mates in a common flat, so they do know each other very well..
The good chemistry is due to some members of Epica played with Floor in a previous band, ReVamp.

The name Epica was inspired by the 6th studio album by the band Kamelot (listen because it's worth it, especially with the former vocalist Roy Khan), released in 2003. Simone Simons, vocalist of Epica is married to the keyboardist of Kamelot.
Epica use a lot of Arabic scales in their music, it's quite distinctive!

Simone and Floor ARE best friends and were roommates when they studied classical and theatre singing.
Half of this band, including guitarplayer are the members from After Forever, Floors first band. So they all know eachother very well and she always remained good friends with these guys. That's what you are seeing here.
I love Epica and Simone. We have some very good female singers in Holland (must be in the water) Simone has a beautiful voice , but lighter than Floors. Floor is still superior, with her insane high notes and the power in her lungs.
They never were roommates. 🙂 Simone finally said it in an interview a couple days ago.
And they didn't study together either. Simone is 4 years younger than Floor and she never went to the Rock Academy.

Floor was invited. Floor and Simone have been close friends since their teens. Also please appreciate that Simone was 12 weeks pregnant during this 23 song long concert. Dutch power, haha. Unfortunately the Dutch lost both of them. Floor lives in Sweden and Simone lives in Germany. Metal is not very popular in the Netherlands.
Symphonic metel is now particularly popular with a very large group of people who are completely crazy about Floor Janssen, and with it Nigthwisch. year 2023 everything is sold out both Nigthwisch and Floor Janssen live, only a total of 8 evenings are already completely sold out, tickets will still be available on the black market for high prices, but if you really want to go you better wait , the week before the concert there are always tickets available from people who have unexpected things (illness, death, other activities that take precedence), but then check the official site, they are offered again for the normal price,, Many success and fun🤘🤘🤓🤓🤘🤘❤️❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 stars concert

Go to Epica next month 27th of January in AFAS Amsterdam, there are still a few tickets available if i am right, otherwise take a look at ticketswap. There will be way more metalheads and goths than with Nightwish. So the atmosphere will be sooo good with Epica and here and there some moshpits and the famous Consign to Oblivion wall of death. This is what u will miss with Nightwish. And i speak out of experience I've been this year two times to Epica and one time to Nightwish.

You were right about the oriental sound. these are used a lot in metal music. also, there are a lot of oriental based and popular metal bands. When you have time, you should check out Myrath, Orphaned Land or Melechesh, to name a few.👌

The sphere of Sancta Terra (sacred ground) begins with an absolutely conscious oriental. The song is about the mentality of a (fundamentalist) suicide bomber. This song has been adapted for this jubilee concert by Simone and Floor (lifelong friends) into a duet. According to Simone, this song is about someone who has blown himself up and believes he has arrived in heaven, but he is actually in hell. However, he feels good there, so he belongs there.
If you like them singing together they did a classical piece together just with the orchestra no rock .. Epica "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" with Floor Jansen.

Has anyone else heard anything about you tube regulating reactors channels, it was in one of the papers over here in the UK, can't remember which I have deadly app so can read all the papers and mags I want. It was saying due to the avalanche of reactors who seem to charge what they like they are going to have to investigate and regulate. I've no idea, how reaction channels even work, but hope that our favourite reactors are going to be OK, I love listening to this pair.

The song is an Epica one but has been sung as a duet with many guest vocalists including several performances with Floor. Simone's hair swinging is less vigorous than Floors as she was pregnant and this 10th anniversary concert was three hours long.

Not true. Floor is 4 years older than Simone, they’ve never been roommates and they even not best friends as often told. They’re are colleagues and casual friends as 2 Dutch women in the metal scene.
