    Thank you very much. This is a very useful video for custard apple growers: Easy to learn and easy to apply. However, technically speaking, it is not correct to say "to select male flowers" or "to select female flowers" on the custard apple because this plant produces hermaphroditic flowers that have both male and female sex organs on the same flower. To prevent genetic degradation due to self-pollination, the custard apple has evolved in the direction that the male (anther) and female (stigma) sex organs do not ripen at the same time. In this case, female first, male later. That is, when the stigma is able to receive pollen, the anther of that flower has not yet released pollen. As a result, the chances of this flower being pollinated with pollen from other plants are higher. By the time the anther releases pollen, the stigma has dried up and is no longer able to receive pollen from the same flower, thereby reducing the ability to self-pollinate. Therefore, it must be said correctly "to select flowers for pollen" instead of "to select male flowers" and "to select flowers for pollination" instead of "to select female flowers". In addition, the hand pollination for custard apple is not intended to increase the fruit set rate because this plant naturally produces a lot of fruits, it is mainly to increase the size of the fruit and improve the shape of the fruits. The above mistake has been repeated in many videos presenting hand pollination for Annona.

      Thank you very much for visiting and providing such a great, constructive review. You are correct! It is the same flower. It is female stage first then becomes male stage later on. Most of my varieties are atemoya. Some can self pollinate but most of them requires hand pollination to yield fruit since my area is considered sub-tropical and these fruits are tropical fruits. The climate of the region can change the successful rate of getting young fruits. I hand pollinate just to guarantee I do get fruits for the season and also to maximize the size of the fruit. Again, thanks for spending time watching my very first video of atemoya 😊. Have a wonderful weekend!

    Country. Our Cherimoya looks very different. It’s leaves are blade like and the tree trunk is much thicker and darker in color. Ever tree I see online is unlike the ones I have in my garden. Thanks anyways.

    •  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for visiting my garden. I was told it is the Australia atemoya which is the same variety with the other atemoya trees that I've shown in this video but somehow this tree seems to produce fruit that is larger and very flavorful. This year it is still my favorite. I think it could be it is more mature than the other trees that I have. Thank you so much again for watching my video. I appreciate it!

    •  2 роки тому

      Hi, I store the male pollen in the refrigerator for up to three days. I don’t adjust my refrigerator temperature just for the male pollen. I usually leave the male pollen in the refrigerator section (not the freezer) and it seems to work very well. Thanks for visiting and have nice day! 🌺

    Good video. Can I use pollens from sugar apple, to pollinate athemoya.since my athemoya is not giving much pollens.

    •  3 роки тому

      I usually just pollinate within the same species because I like the to keep the shape and the flavor of the fruit to be the same. Sometimes when you use different poll to pollinate, the tree might not except the pollen from the other type and might not result in fruit production. Hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching my video anh have a wonderful day 🌺

      @ thank you for your reply, I’d like to learn to grow Atemoya, do you suggest I purchase grafted tree with fruits?

    •  3 роки тому +1

      Grafted tree with fruits gives you the benefit of knowing the tree has been able to produce fruit. When you buy your atemoya tree, look to see if the tree looks healthy overall such as green looking leaves, big trunk. Sometimes a tree with too many fruits on it can exhaust the tree for the next season. Hope this helps. Happy holidays to you and your family!

    •  3 роки тому +1

      Female and male flowers of cherimoya is the same flower. The male flower is the later stage of the flower. When the flower is fully opened, it is male and when it is just barely opened it is female. I notice the flower becomes male using in late afternoon early evening around 6-7 pm.

    Hi vườn cây thanh thảo,
    Use fertilizer 141414 every 3 month ,when it 's time to pollinate can i put fertilizer 141414 and how often do you to water it?
    Do you put fertilizer for bloom flowers?

    •  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for visiting. When the flowers are blooming, I don’t put fertilizer to prevent flowers from dropping. I would wait until the fruits have formed to a size at least of a kumquat or bigger then I put down fertilizer to help the tree to carry the fruits. We are at the end of spring and heading into the summer soon. I water my plants every 2 day now but when temperature reaches above 100F in the summer I would water more frequently. I don’t use fertilizer for bloom flowers. I usually trim down my trees in early spring and this enhances the flower production greatly 🌸

    Would you tell me how long do fruit take to mature if you pollinate in May? Thanks

    •  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for visiting. If you hand pollinate and see the baby fruit forming, it’ll take about 4-5 months for the fruit to mature.

    • @hduong267
      @hduong267 3 роки тому

      The reason I asked if you have a baby fruits starting to form in May, they would be matured in Nov or Dec. Somehow there are a lot of them to be sold in Asian groceries in late Jan and Feb. I wondered how they have flowers to pollinate in July? Thanks

    •  3 роки тому

      My trees still have flowers up to October actually. I have harvested in December and February. If you want lots of flowers, consider trimming some of your tree branches, that will increase the flower production. Hope you will have great success in hand pollination your tree this year and lots of fruits to harvest 🌸

    Why it is better to use 2 brushes to pollinate, Are they different size? Thank you

    •  3 роки тому +1

      I use 2 brushes because I notice the one I use to collect pollen is usually more bended due to using it so much. I like to keep the one to use for pollinate to be well shape so that my fruits will less irregular looking shape. Also, A lot of time the collecting brush will get sticky and changes the quality of the hair on it and make it less successful in hand pollinating. They don’t have to be different sizes. Thank you for watching my video. Have a nice day 🌸

    •  3 роки тому

      Hi, thank you for visiting my garden. How big is your fruit or how long after you hand pollinated when that happened?

    • @bambiyogi
      @bambiyogi 3 роки тому

      About a week after I hand pollinated them. Could it be that I brushed it too hard? Or the tree is still too young for the fruits to stay. I’ve only had it for 2 years. Thank you.

    •  3 роки тому

      I see. There could be several reasons. Age of tree, weather, brush tip too hard...do have effect on the ability for tree to have fruit set. The number one thing that I notice is the first round of flower blooming especially in May, most of the flowers are not mature enough. I still start to hand pollinate to get things going but around mid June when the second round of flowers come out, the result of hand pollination is very high. At this time, the male flowers produce a lot more pollen and the female flowers like to get enough pollen to make baby fruit. I do have one tree 2 years old ( my youngest one) that have fruit set. Let me know how things go. Have a nice day 🌸

    •  3 роки тому

      Mình chào bạn Lan, bạn đừng buồn, Hoa của Cây Mãng cầu vào những tháng đầu thường rất non và phấn của hoa đực không được trưởng thành lắm nên khi chấm Vào hoa cái không đủ phấn để thụ thành trái. Năm ngoái mình có một cây nhỏ 2 tuổi đến tháng tám mới đậu được trái. Nếu bạn có những hoa trong thân thì nên thụ phấn cho những hoa này trước. Những hoa đầu cành rất khó đậu được trái và rất hay dễ rụng.
