My theory is that the animators and writers were just doing their thing when a stoned H. P. Lovecraft kicked the door down and went 'Hey, you know what this movie needs?'
The Greedy represents comfort eating brought on by depression, rejection, neglect and a history of abuse as a child. Despite being disgusting, the greedy is a suffer of severe depression
The Greedy legit gave me nightmares as a child. Stuck in a lake of taffy with a monster that ate everything in sight... I don't think I ever saw the end of the scene where they escaped.
theory: the greedy was a normal human who fell into the taffy pit. he survived of the candy and became so addicted he turned into an amorphous blob, and lost his memory. seeing the sweets around him, he assumed he gathered it all himself because of how delicious it was. his demented candy lust, memory loss, loneliness and loss of his humanity drove him to insanity
Oh boy, we've got Lovercraft on the loose. And this is just his speed to. I've never seen this before. It's an interesting little Lovercraft influenced scenario. The thing about Lovercraft's work is that he enjoyed messing with your brain. Mind Fuke 10th level stuff like this was something he would have admired.
Yes! I knew someone else would get the H.P. Lovecraft vibe from this villian. I didn't realize it as a child, but it is truly horrifying. When I first watched this film, I just saw the sweets and thought it was cool. The song was rather catchy, ut in retrospect, I realize that this whole scene was just surreal to the nth degree.
@HugoLuman "[clears throat] *me-me-me-me-meeeee!* "I am the Greedy, you see, and as you can see, I eat constantly. A huge ocean of sweets is the most of all my eats, Yet even all this stuff is not enough!"
Suddenly, a resounding thud rocked the chamber, sending violent ripples through the Greedy's liquid form. Standing at one end of the cavernous room, stepping deliberately through the debris and smoke, was a steely-featured Wilford Brimley. His eyes narrowed to rage-filled slits as he leveled his grenade launcher, and muttered, "Di-ah-beetus ...."
Holy shit! I remember this when i was about 7...i couldn't remember what the show was but i always remembered The Greedy...That brought me back a long long time ago
Emery Hawkins animated the Greedy. He's best known for his animation at Warners (look up '8 Ball Bunny') and Walter Lantz (the 1940s Woody Woodpecker tree-stump opening).
Suddenly, the cavern was rocked by an explosion that blew a hole in the Greedy's chamber. Striding through the smoke and debris was a steely-featured Wilford Brimley. Leveling his grenade launcher, his eyes narrowed to rage-filled slits as he muttered "Di-ah-beetus ...."
Despite the fact that this scene will probably disturb me horribly for the rest of my life, you have to admit the animation is pretty good. Besides the good animation in this movie... ITS THE STUFF NIGHTMARES ARE MADE OF
I'd like to see a bar foods and snacks version of this...like the greedy is a large pit of lard..."You can give me BURGERS, triple BURGERS, CELERY and dip, oh FRENCH FRIES...
***** I disagree with the other two. It's only a BLAM if it's out of place. This movie is, like, 75% of this kind of scene. It's almost BLAM: The Movie, except it's made by the guy who did the Thief and the Cobbler instead of Don Bluth.
Freaky shit..I forgot how horrifying some of the stuff this movie had in it was. From those twin dolls to this...x__X; What the hell were the animators on?!
To me the Greedy always seemed like someone who was a glutton, or someone who valued materials above love and this was his punishment: to eat very rich and sweet food and never be able to feel full except if someone loved him and since he is basically stuck in a taffy pit and a horrible monster he'll never be complete.
@Suaviterinmodo Wait, you did the animation? Or just this scene? If you did, you did a great job on the Greedy's facial shifts! Round nosed, then pig nosed, then so forth!
God, I wish I could have been around when these cartoons were around. Me being 14, I reduced to the crap they put on Disney Channel, and Nickeloden. It's just really nice to come on youtube, and find out what my parents were watching back then, and also compare it to the shows now. Old Shows: 69 New Crap: 0
I think that's because it wasn't exactly graphic enough for anything higher. Like, there wasn't any blood or course language, so it wouldn't have gotten anything higher than G.
Yeah, nice one, Ann. He says he wants a "sweetheart", and you go and tell him you have a candy heart...Oh, no, I'm sure he won't mistake that for his metaphor.. -_-*
I can't imagine what the storyboards must've looked like.
My theory is that the animators and writers were just doing their thing when a stoned H. P. Lovecraft kicked the door down and went 'Hey, you know what this movie needs?'
+steven smith Lovecraft: That's okay. A shoggoth will do fine.
+steven smith Sounds right to me.
+KrimzonFlygon1 Takes a big long took "let me just slide on in here"
The Greedy represents comfort eating brought on by depression, rejection, neglect and a history of abuse as a child.

A great, tragic character for such a short scene. He has a sadness that his greed can't fill. He's completely comical and menacing and pitiable.
I agree. He's a tragic villan.
The Greedy legit gave me nightmares as a child. Stuck in a lake of taffy with a monster that ate everything in sight... I don't think I ever saw the end of the scene where they escaped.

Warning: don't watch on a full stomach
Reminds me of The Great Mighty Poo somewhat...
the greedy vs the smooz
Yeah, he kinda does.
That's okay, I wasn't planning to sleep anyway.
I watched this scene once as a kid.
*once*
One of my most favorite scenes in the move! I looooved watching it in the movie theater as a kid! Sooo imaginative.
"It seems to me, Mr. Greedy, that you've had quite enough already! >:("
LIKE A _BOSS_.
CJCroen1393 Raggedy Ann *is* a BOSS.
Part time rag doll, full time savage
Oh boy, we've got Lovercraft on the loose. And this is just his speed to. I've never seen this before. It's an interesting little Lovercraft influenced scenario. Lol, this is messed up on so many levels. lol

The first eldritch abomination in the U.S.
The scene where he whips out the scissors never left me.
animating this guy must have been a pain in the ass
I AM THE GREAT MIGHTY POO...
i relate to that thing so much it hurts
I wonder if the Greedy was a normal guy, but became that way after eating so many sweets? This is a fantasy, all kinds of weird stuff happen!
@HugoLuman "[clears throat] *me-me-me-me-meeeee!*
"I am the Greedy, you see,
and as you can see, I eat constantly.
A huge ocean of sweets
is the most of all my eats,

I had a nightmare like this once... It didn't go well...
This disturbed me when I was a child.
This is disturbing on so many levels. Eternally thankful I didn't see this as a kid.
This makes me want to eat vegetables now.
The Greedy is a pretty sweet villain. (pun intended)
And Pete should fall into a pile of dog shit.
that would be funny. You like the Greedy to?
GreyWolf70 Idk I've never seen this series and from the looks of this it's around the 70s or 80s.
It's a movie about Raggedy Anne and Andy. The greedy is my favorite character.
GreyWolf70 I was going to say that one episode of Life's A Zoo I laughed so hard at the part what Chi Chi did when everyone thought she was pregnant!
This is offically where the film gave up all logic and reasoning in place of insanity. But really entertaining insanity.
NO ONE CAN RESIST VANILLA
oh, double entendre, you're always there when I need you.
Holy shit no wonder this scene scared me as a child, im scared as an adult!
Say what you want about Richard Williams prima donna moments, the man knows how to make a fluid animation
Holy shit! I remember this when i was about 7...i couldn't remember what the show was but i always remembered The Greedy...That brought me back a long long time ago
......my mind just got raped.
with the baggy knees! Mustn't forget those knees!
Part of one. It's from a movie called "Raggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure" made in 1977.
I really love this video. Sometimes I feel like I'm the greedy and other times, other people are
This gave someone a fetish
Emery Hawkins animated the Greedy. He's best known for his animation at Warners (look up '8 Ball Bunny') and Walter Lantz (the 1940s Woody Woodpecker tree-stump opening).
i used to watch this movie evryday at my grandmas house when i was little. ha. its pretty amazing how well the animation was back then.
Tetsuooooooo

I always loved this cartoon, it never scared me as a child... could you possibly put the full movie up? I would love you forever!!!
Why do I feel like I'm in the 3rd circle of hell?
No, I did not animate this segment. I just know through reading about it that it took 3 tries to animate. This movie was released before I was born.
WHAT IS HIS BASIC BODY SHAPE!? the greedy wont stay still long enough for me to see.
this sequence is the perfect motivation for beginning a weight-loss regiment
Well, I've lost my appetite for anything sugary. Anyone up for a salad?
Sonic.exe has nightmares of this
I could imagine aku being the greedy
THE GREAT!!! AND MIGHTY!!! POOO!!!
Despite the fact that this scene will probably disturb me horribly for the rest of my life, you have to admit the animation is pretty good. Besides the good animation in this movie... ITS THE STUFF NIGHTMARES ARE MADE OF
That is one doozy of a sweet tooth.
I'd like to see a bar foods and snacks version of this...like the greedy is a large pit of lard..."You can give me BURGERS, triple BURGERS, CELERY and dip, oh FRENCH FRIES...
I never saw Raggedy Ann and Andy, so can anyone who saw the movie tell me if this counts as a Big Lipped Alligator Moment?
Yes, it counts.
Oh yeah. it counts
***** I disagree with the other two. It's only a BLAM if it's out of place. This movie is, like, 75% of this kind of scene. It's almost BLAM: The Movie, except it's made by the guy who did the Thief and the Cobbler instead of Don Bluth.

I posted the lyrics to Never Get Enough in the video description for those of you who are interested.
I loved that blue camel.
Wes Crane, stop making children shows
I love this movie!
i found out the diamond hard way that you shouldn't watch this on acid
Believe me, he was a pain in the ass to animate. His segment was the last to be completed.
wow, its been over 20 years last time i saw this!
What the actual goddamn fuck
Freaky shit..I forgot how horrifying some of the stuff this movie had in it was. From those twin dolls to this...x__X; What the hell were the animators on?!
"I'm never satisfied or happy inside." Jesus Christ
I used to have a recurring dream of this as a child 😆
Today I fel nauseous because of this scene. D: Nostalgia critic makes me feel weird.
@minipoppun I figured that by "Sweet heart," it meant that he needed to develop within himself a heart of caring and generosity for others.
This guy and the GMP should do a duet together.
@Suaviterinmodo In fact, I believe it was animated by a legendary artist from the golden age of animation except the end patrt.
No wonder the Greedy's always hungry, anything he eats just rises to the surface of the taffy again, which he then picks out and eats!
3 different ones here on youtube. Mine is the only full, complete version of this segment.
I almost never want to eat again for some reason.
This "greedy" character scared the beegeebuss out of me when I was a kid.
To me the Greedy always seemed like someone who was a glutton, or someone who valued materials above love and this was his punishment: to eat very rich and sweet food and never be able to feel full except if someone loved him and since he is basically stuck in a taffy pit and a horrible monster he'll never be complete.
Oh my god, this movie was trippy.
Creative but trippy....
this movie was so creepy when I was a kid
Did this scene inspire the animators at Shaft Studios when they did Madoka Magica. Especially with Charlotte.
If earthbound ever has a cartoon this should be master belch
Richard Williams What the Fringe were you sniffing when you made this!!!!!??????!!!!!!!!
It would probably be more like "the Gluttonous", but that doesn't roll off the tongue as well as "the Greedy".
Louie Anderson really let himself go...even more.
what show is this? it looks cool.
It's a movie called "Raggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure" (1977)
thank you.
Sure.
"Who are you supposed to be?"
"Raggedy Andy"
"Get the FUCK out of my bounty hunter meeting"
I think you're thinking of Cement Man from Turtles in Time.
@Suaviterinmodo Please do; I can never decipher what he says from 4:06 to 4:12.
rofl your comment just made my day.
Yes, I believe he does cross dress. :-)
@Suaviterinmodo Wait, you did the animation? Or just this scene? If you did, you did a great job on the Greedy's facial shifts! Round nosed, then pig nosed, then so forth!

This explains allot...
I think that's because it wasn't exactly graphic enough for anything higher. Like, there wasn't any blood or course language, so it wouldn't have gotten anything higher than G.
Dose it feel like the 1970's were the worst time for childrens tv and movies?
It's the Creep from Creepshow 2 voicing him
Andy is hilarious!
He probably wants a sweetheart who can help him get enough to eat.
I know, just watching this makes me feel like I need a shot of my dad's insulin.
r/nice guys
Watch without sound
Yeah, nice one, Ann. He says he wants a "sweetheart", and you go and tell him you have a candy heart...Oh, no, I'm sure he won't mistake that for his metaphor.. -_-*
I'm hungry now.
