The Black Dahlia Murder "Removal of the Oaken Stake" from the "Verminous" album.
When it came to title the record, Strnad looked around at the scene he has helped nourish for two decades and found his inspiration. "We, members of our beloved and hidden world of the heavy metal underground teeming just below the surface, are the verminous. The rats and roaches looming in the cracks and crevices of this fallen world. We are the pariahs that the world of normality finds loathsome and obscene. We are the carriers of a plague of knowledge so vile that it could bring the unsuspecting mankind to its knees. Always the underdogs. Our love for this music and what it means to our lives is foolishly underestimated." This ties into the lyrical themes that permeate the record, though not exclusively, Strnad not struggling to find subject matter that engaged him. "The outside world of religion-warped 'normalcy' is the opposing viewpoint. We are the ultimate antagonist to their archaic ways of thought, the dreamers of the nightmares that shake them to their very core. Although we are but lowly vermin to them, the unseen and underestimated, our numbers are millions strong. We cast aside their ways and prefer to take solace in the hidden realm of the underground where the dark fruits of free thought can be enjoyed. We are our own Gods. The responsibility of our actions is ours alone." In his position, he is also able to both provide listeners with opportunities to exorcise compulsions toward exploring dark themes and find some personal release. "Not unlike the appeal of a horror movie, there is a curiously dark side in all of us that can enjoy the occasional gaze through the eyes of the all-powerful masked killer. I enjoy taking the listener on such a ride. There is a certain catharsis in putting myself into the heart of each character I create. Where I lack power in my life, I channel it in my creations."
The guys shot some video clips at home while under quarantine and now we have another video! Enjoy!
3. REMOVAL OF THE OAKEN STAKE
Encased in shadows
So silently I've slept
Dreaming of the day my needs
Haphazardly are met
I recall an ancient time
When I did rule this land
But by this godforsaken spell
The life I'd known was stripped right from these hands
In death I'm bound
Nailed to the ground
Stabbed through the heart
The only tender human part
Removal from my breast
The killing oaken stake
When this curse is broken
And these yellowed bones regenerate
Again when this coffin steams so foul
Glowing with crimson light
Inhuman sweat shall stain the silk
As death returns to life
No
No pity for the fool
It’s fangs to he who stirs my slumber
Quenching an olden thirst
To rise once again unencumbered
I’ll live again
An incubus in human skin
Buried by time and dust
A most harrowed secret kept
Older than memory
Through history I've crept
Hidden the ancient world
Where vampires ruled the lands
But by man’s dreadful mortal schemes
They’ve captured us in purgatory’s dance
In death I'm bound
Nailed to the ground
Stabbed through the heart
The only tender human part
In death I'm bound
Nailed to the ground
Right through the heart
What you’d call lore it’s very real to me
Removal from my breast
The killing oaken stake
When this curse is broken
And these yellowed bones
Regenerate again
When this coffin steams so foul
Glowing with crimson light
Inhuman sweat shall stain the silk
As death returns to life
Thanks :)
Emote it I see, so shall the Green man be.
See who needs a big budget. 😂 Good job!
@@MobileDecay if ya go Stag Style a treasure is at your pleasure.
Hail Cernunnos.
Welcome back
Who can possibly ever write lyrics like you did Trevor? You will be forever missed by all metalheads. I will never forget you or your influence in the metal scene. Rest in power🤘🤘
Thank you
I was just thinking the same thing.
While I agree that his and vocals and lyrics will be hugely missed; I do think Brian is probably the only one who can hopefully continue the legacy of just that.
He was a death metal poet.
Their riffs are always sooooooo damn solid.
They're always so bouncy (i always called em "grooves") - BDM, lamb of god, arch enemy, and all shall perish were all my starter bands on guitar and they all share that bouncy melodic feel but really dark as well, love it
Trevor is a god with lyrics man he crushes it every time
Fuck yea. One of the only death metal bands that lyrics get stuck in my head.
Yep, he's the best, no question.
He is an English literature major, he said once in an interview. Totally shows in his amazing lyrical abilities!
Right? Brilliant
english professor strand to you g damnit
last masterpiece.. thanks for your theatrical and haunting lyrics trevor .. RIP Legacy in death metal is engraved forever
THIS ALBUM IS SO GREAT. Brandon Ellis is a total melodic chopsy beast, one of the greatest guitarists of our generation in my opinion. Huge, huge fan.
YUGE
I second
Ellis is the Marty Friedman of our generation and they are not just similar in playing. Both very melodic, technical and one of the most gifted players of their time in one of heaviest bands of their time.
Whoever put this video together did a really good job given the circumstances
Thanks! My work is average even during the apocalypse haha
@@metalbladerecords This is definitely above average my guy. Do you use Premiere, FCPX, Avid? Which do you prefer when making these music videos?
@@franktothemax Thanks! Syncs done in premiere and then everything else in after effects. AE is hard to beat for more complex effects, masks, etc.
No way it's great! I actually really liked it throughout
@@metalbladerecords brabo
Definitely my favorite song off the new album. The chorus is really infectious and memorable. Reminds me a lot of what a horrible night to have a curse.
Yeah it's my favorite too. Love the lead guitar riff in it. Was stuck in my head for days when I first heard it
Bro I feel that 🤘😞🤘
Black Dahlia was my first concert at 12 years old thanks to my uncle for being a metal head 15 years later and now passing it on to my daughter!
I wanna be Brandon Ellis when I grow up.
All these years later and I still get heartburn when I listen to them.
Im getting that shit tattooed on my gut
I see what you did there
love from iran man tbdm rules new record is fucking awesome
Love from California brother! \m/ \m/
@@thelords4691 stay safe bro🤘🤘
Iran man sounds like a crestfallen superhero 😂😂
Love from Australia ❤️
Love from Germany! Metal heads unite!
Lost my shit when I saw this live. Love this band!!! Still hard to believe Trevor is gone. Rest In Peace Trevor!
I hope they do the whole album like this. They have the time to do it.
Trevor did say in a recent interview they had trouble choosing the singles lol so releasing them all as singles is a great solution haha
Favorite song off the album by far. Other than the wereworms feast and the leather apron scorn. Really glad they did a video on it, and an awesome one at that! Reminds me of the songs blood mine and nightbringers
My top three as well. That drum and bass only part after the first chorus in Leather Apron is so simple and badass.
A good friend once told me "yeah all their songs kinda sound the same, but it's like one really long amazing song"
Remember when people said this was a Metalcore band?
Metal core ? Whoever said that needs to be shot . Melodic death metal
I’m pretty sure this is Christian post-passive aggressive hardcore
They technically were a Metalcore band in 2001 when they released What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse
@@TheBennychin and thirty seconds to Mars used to make space-alt-actually good music-rock in the early 2000’s. But people don’t call them a rock/alt band anymore
2020 and TBDM remains a consistent, riff crushing, death metal band. Maan you just gotta love these dudes.
That’s why they’re the best metal band imo
Best lyricist in DM. HIs lyrics were poetry, always
this is the best band in DM period very underrated
one of the best if not best over all these years. That opener, Ellis, you something boi. ❤. RIP Trevor
Removal of the SLIME FUELED DEATH METAL T-SHIRT. So good tho.
What a badass song title. If that doesn’t scream “Trevor Strnad”, I don’t know what does.
RIP, the legend himself
TBDM never disappoints. Really awesome job.
Been a fan since 2003, this band gets better with age
Legendary band, will never have the words to truly express my love for them.
This one is an instant classic for me
I watched Alan live with BDM, his drumming was so fkng good, he didn't miss a hit. I stayed sober as a judge just so I had a perfect memory of it. Dude's a fkn boss!! I got alcohol poisoning and a brain bleed afterwards but it was a good night
This is what I needed today!!!! Much love from Colorado! 🤘😝🤘
Shayne McCaw 🤘🏾
Man to think how far they’ve come!! I remember the first time hearing Nocturnal when I was 10, still blown away at this talent!!
My love for this band is unfathomable and this is to me one of there greatest tracks to date. Stay safe fellas and thanks tbdm and metal blade for the quarantine video!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻😈😈
I traveled 4 hours to see tbdm in Knoxville TN. After the set I yelled at Trevor about 20 feet away to take a picture with me only for him to ignore or not hear me and he walked out of the venue. I felt so discouraged but then he walked back in to grab a kick drum off stage I told myself I wasn’t going to miss this opportunity again. As he walked by a second time I yelled at the top of my lungs Trevor take a fkn picture with me! He stopped, looked dead at me and took pity on my soul. Walked back in after setting down the kick drum, took a picture with me, and shook my hand and said thanks for supporting my shit. Closest I’ve ever felt to meeting a celebrity/idol and I’ll cherish that picture forever
More harmonies and melodies like the ending please.🤘
First Enter Shikari drops new album and now TBDM! This year is going strong musically! 💚
The new album is freaking brilliant. It's a real masterpiece. I just can't fucking stop listening to it. For me it's one of the best metal albums ever released.
I agree. I say that for half of their albums. Miasma, nocturnal, ritual, verminous.
So cool, it came out as such an awesome old school style metal music video! You guys are slaying it!
She bangs She bangs ,oh baby when she moves she moves 🎶
Seriously i don’t think enough people understand this comment 🤣🤣🤣🤣
So happy this song got a lyric video this track is downright fierce
Love this track!! Whole album, front to back phenomenal. For me this will land as one of my favorite albums by TBDM. Not sure where yet but I think they killed it. TBDM and Testament both have crushed it for me in 2020.
I love the lyrical allusion to “Elder Misanthropy.”
Which is?
@@T-roccBABY A track from unhallowed their very first album. This song is almost like a sequal to that song.
This is about Castlevania
@@betterthanmost9549 I know that much, I don't see similarities between the two
T Ray, so in “Elder Misanthropy” the lyrics take about a vampire lives through thousands of year. Witnessing the crucifixion of Christ up until the point earth is wasteland. This song is dealing with the same concept of a vampire biding his time through history.
Nothing can stop the boys man. Shooting music videos at home and MAKING THEM LOOK DAMN GOOD!
I can't get over how perfect this is.🕇⛦
The moment I heard this song I loved it! The groove at the start is fire!
I saw them live in 2005 in a concert with Marduk, Napalm Death, Vader and Misery Index, 2007 with Job for a Cowboy and the Red Chord and 2018 with Cannibal Corpse and No Return...I'm getting old
Death, Carnifex, Light This City, Testament, and TBDM...never fail me
Love your music since many and many years and i'll never grow tired. Love you guys! Long life to you !!!!
Amazing as always.
This song is definitely my favorite from the album.
when trevor said he was saving his favorite song as the last single i was super pumped to find out what it was. very cool
Straight up man! Album after album they deliver! With major set backs along the way. Still tearing it up, going to see ‘em in 2 months / sept 2023
Already a year ago but not forgotten ! Rip brother 🤘
WAITED FOR THIS DAY A LONG TIME!!! SO STOKED ON THE NEW JAMS!! WELL WORTH IT;
Always cool to see his lyrics come to life.
This is dope. Liking the lyric video with live parts!
This album gives me hope that JFAC
Will show up with a new album soon
Might be barking up that tree for a while lol It's like waiting for Time II from Wintersun lol
Song and video are off the chain!! Keepin it real in Asturias, Spain 🤘
This album is a masterpiece. I was a bit disappointed in their last outing and feared they had peaked.
I was wrong and I'm glad!!!
You didn't like Nightbringers?!
@@inalingthedead I did, I just thought there were a few less memorable tracks on there.
Only Kings Of The Nightworld, Nightbringers and As Good As Dead stuck out for me whereas I usually enjoy every single song on a TBDM album!
That feel when nocturnal was the peak.
This album is sounding much better than Nightbringers. I did not care for that album at all
@@MPSO117 For real Nocturnal gets dickridden HARD. IMO it had trevors worst vocals, but the riffage was badass. I love Everything went black and nocturnal!
AWESOME!!! As always🤘😎
Great album a new era of TBDM
Their concert was insane! So glad I got to see them shred
👍👍👍 Be blasting this till the end of time!
Love this song
From Richmond, Virginia we love Trevor Brandon Brian Alan and Max!!
RVA represent!
@@shredforceone hell yeah! I'm about 15 minutes away from jame river
I've literally listened to this song exclusively since launch
I'm glad to see they're all having fun.
i finally figured out how to play that song...
love it even more now
good song which is fun to play along
This is my favorite song off of this album.
My favorite track on the album.
Fav song of the new album so far!
Holy shit!! Is it me, or are they just getting better and better. From funeral thirst to now.....fucking bad ass
Pure art.....have nothing more to say❤️
2:22 nice Mayhem reference
They’re in incredible form on this record!
Awesome Album! I guess, i'm already addicted haha
One of the best bands in DM \m/
Ages I haven’t heard The Black Dahlia Murder, but am I glad I heard/discovered this.*
I've listened to Black dahlia since the beginning and damn do they always get better!
Buying this album right now.
Wow did not see that coming 🤘🏻
Holy Shit! Brutal intro, this is SICK!!!
Great video!
You guys should sell TAB BOOKS for the album(s). I'd buy em!
Yes
I would never have thought that Brian likes Scorpions. I love it when people can stand out of their edgy side
Trippy effect in vid !!!
this is just the best fricken video ever! and the song itselfs just so fucking sick i almost cant belive how lucky i am to have this gracing my earholes! Nice work homies!
Good job..im like this🔥🔥
Damn, this is one of their best tracks ever.
Rock in power trev!🎤🤘🏽
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this band is incapable of releasing a bad song or album.
Did you hear me?! No bad songs or albums! ZERO!
Elder Misanthropy agreed. It’s extremely, extremely rare to have a bad where there’s 0 songs you dislike. I can’t think of a single tbdm song I don’t like and that speaks volume considering they’ve released quite a lot of albums.
@@Brouillette96 Exactly. Nearly 20 years and 9 albums later and they haven't missed a step. In fact, they only keep getting better and better.
That’s what happens when you gather a bunch of talented musicians who can work together 🤘🏻
Settle down
The intro alone is great to me 🤘🏻
that riff, bad ass and beatiful
I have struggled to enjoy this album as much as the last one, but it's still a solid release.
R.I.P you will never be forgotten my brother!!!!!!
PURE GREATENESS
very catchy
Rest in peace sweet prince
Song is so good
Mr. Stoker would be super proud of this song :D!!!
Today i imagined if this song has a music video
Soo there it is
Thanks God!!
Don’t thank god, thank our lord and saviour Joe Pesci

Not sure who wrote this track, but very well thought riffs 👏
Nobody like these guys...they broke the mold with their style. Love it (usually). This song rocks.
