Genesis 11:1-9 (NASB)
1 Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words.
2 It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
3 They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.
4 They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
5 The LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
6 The LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.
7 “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”
8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city.
9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.

After God slammed the tower of Babel, Satan cried "you sunk my battleship" 😭😭😭😭😭. When will people learn you can't fight God. God always crushes Satan's dreams like a sand castle.
Genesis chapter 6 the Sons of God ( Elohim ) saw that the daughters of men were beautiful and took whoever they wanted. Elohim is God not angel. Elohim is plural. So you take my wife then kill your own Grandchildren in the flood. But more giants appear after the flood? The taking of women continued and continues to this day.
So humans finally got along and decided to work towards something without any prejudice and God said nope because of his ego and spread them apart with different languages.
And thus caused division, wars, racism, etc.

God detests pride. He uplifts the humble & abases the proud. Sinful humanity should never view ourselves as God- our Perfect, Holy Creator & Abba... God didn't condone the prideful actions of those endeavoring to build the Tower of Babel for their own glory. Yet He blessed those who honored Him on the Day of Pentecost by giving them the ability understand languages of which they had no prior knowledge. Our God is so Awesome...

The cities are falling down now.. it’s crazy what’s going on today in the cities with the virus and riots and protests. People are hating on each other more than loving. All the sins of our lives is being committed in those cities. The ego is very evil. And the city is breeding for ground for pride and envy and all of that.

I've never liked going into the city. I dunno if it's just because I grew up in a small neighborhood in a large town on the edge of the subburbs and the country or something else. But I've never liked going into Portland or any large city. I always feel lost or I'm gonna get lost because it's just so damn big. Sure you can do a lot but everything's so expensive. The traffic and city driving alone is reason enough to stay away
Ah! Thank you for this insight, about the city being a substitute for the City (made without hands) God wants us to pursue. I think two verses are special for today. Prov25:2... "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter." There is much in the Word we have not yet searched out. The other is; 2Tim3:7. ."...always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." I think this describes our seminaries of today. They have built a box around themselves, each fearing to explore the Word to depth. For if they did, they fear the others would reject them. They fear man more than they fear God.

My understanding of Genesis with regards to the Tower of Babel is similar to the Buddhist notion of "clinging" or "attachment". If you see in Genesis 9, after the flood, God reassured man by saying they will be safe from harm and will want for nothing.
[9:7] And you, be fruitful and multiply, abound on the earth and multiply in it."
[9:8] Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him,
[9:9] "As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you,
[9:10] and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark.
[9:11] I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth."
[9:12] God said, "This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:
[9:13] I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
[9:14] When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds,
[9:15] I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
[9:16] When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth."
[9:17] God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth."
Then Later, when man began clinging, ie, make a tower to avoid flood, make themselves one unit so that they will survive an event that would surely separate the men of earth, they expressed this notion of Clinging and having no faith in the DAO or natural order of things which God assured them of via his "covenant".
I think all of this hearkens back to the actual flood that occurred at the end of the Younger Dryas where the ice sheets melted rapidly from solar flares or an impact event, and civilization that existed then, were wiped out and the surviving pockets of mankind were relegated to the far ends of the earth. Thus began evolving different languages and different races. I have been grappling with this because I can understand having faith in Gods covenant, however, the earth is extremely fragile when it comes to massive events like this, and we therefore are extremely vulnerable and should brace for the continuation of our species. IDK there a ton of varying interpretations of this.. Cheers!

I believe the confusion of language is not so much the growth of different languages, but that mankind started to struggle to communicate with each other as what a person thinks is of more value than what another thinks. This leads to strife and ultimately to war.

The Tower of Babel represents the pride of mankind wanting to reach the heavens and be their own gods. It represents the unification of all people in error. Because of their pride, which is a sin, the same sin that caused Lucifer to rebel, God divided them by making them speak different languages.

Why would God have a problem with the building of a tower however tall? The Babel tower is said to have reached a height of 91 meters. Yet, the height of the Great Pyramid at Giza is measured taller at 139 meters. Fear of Reaching the Heavens was never the problem, an impossible task in itself. No! It was the feared acquisition of knowledge that spurred God to an act of destruction. And its first expression is immediately found in the scenario played out in the Garden of Eden fable. The fear of knowledge is a common thread found throughout the world of the religious and political elite.
Do you not believe in Elohim? The problem was and will always be the initial thought process/ reason behind building the tower. “Proverbs 3:5-6” check that out btw. We as humans have no way nor power to reach God physically, cant even come close to Him or His glory. THATS WHY ITS A PROBLEM... The “Mindsets” of a lot of people are like this unfortunately. Ive beard this story from church almost 100 times (having a mom as a minister). I just never really listened. It’s an interesting story to hear and look into. The tower/pyramid of Babel of which 1/3 remains today is Mt. Kailash in Nepal, there is a fresh water and a salt water lake near it and it takes 4 days to walk around it (book of Jasher)

Custos Venetus yes angels do go with God as seen when he appears to Abraham in Gen 18. That doesn’t mean angels have the power to create life. There is not a single line in the Bible that says that, so to assume angels were creating with God is incorrect.

God promised never to flood the Earth again and put the rainbow in the sky to call his promise to his remembrance, so if that is what the book of enoch says then it is not part of the bible because it goes against God's promise, in otherwords it is a lie.

He is most definitely adressing a congregation. His headset (or he is rather immobile with a good condenser podium mic) seems to be heavily gated but not before you hear a bit of room reverb. Totally natural in what I bet is a good sized, hard surfaced sanctuary in a church.

Hi James I reckon you have some Hebrew translation on your side there. Gen 11.1 could be read as a description of a single "landmass" (not people) bounded by a single coastline (not lip). The scroll of Gen 10 asserts that the separation of continents was within human history - specifically in the days of Peleg.
Could it be why the Freemasons symbology is the compass , square , circle & triangle with the G meaning builders hence they are symbolically using their hands to replicate Gods building .... Also when Jesus says “ Give unto Caesar’s what is Caesars and unto God what is Gods “

I should perhaps temper what I have said so that it is understood in its broader context. Abram lived, breathed, and operated in a thoroughly pagan society. Abram was a Babylonian native by birth. By identifying him this way I do not imply that his heart was “pagan.” I do not believe that but I do not know for sure. My greater point is that Abram’s origins are an extremely important part of the story that too often is ignored. God planted the hope for the eternal city into the heart of a Babylonian native.

I am a believer but now my curious has peaked and I wish to embrace the teaching of Jesus our saviour. Can anyone recommend the best "true" version of the bible before it was altered? I don't want a modern translation that warps the truth so many historians work hard to recover. I am especially interested in the genesis you all speak of. I was told as a child that the book of Enoch was a part of the bible that was removed so this is where my concern comes from investing in reading a "modern" version of the bible. I am really interested in the story of David and genesis but I am most interested in reading about what they removed.

Hey there, it is an interesting word in the Hebrew. Specifically, קֶ֫דֶם (qedem). It is likely that you are correct that it means "eastward" based on their journey from the direction of the landing of the ark. Bible translators agree to disagree with many variances. In the King James, as well as most other translations, they say "migrating from the east".
This translation, along with only two others I have yet found, they changed it to "migrating to the east".
Why change directions, perhaps to create confusion?
Maybe if you look into the hebrew words it will be clearer.

The key to understanding the Babel story is Genesis 11:6 "...and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." The gods, or plural God if you like, who denied man the tree of life and who cursed man for tasting the tree of knowledge was not inclined to allow man to reach the heavens and challenge them on their own turf. If you try to view these early chapters of Genesis thru the lens of modern Smile-Jesus-Loves-You Christianity you'll miss the point. This is a different mindset.

Hi L Bee. The Bible's first recorded city was envisioned and constructed by a murderer who had just fled the presence of God. In this way, he represents and encapsulates the spirit of all future city-builders who seek to avoid God's direct command to man to "fill the earth." Of course, Cain's lineage was ended at the flood. But the spirit of rebellion that he displayed lived on long after the demise of his specific lineage. His sin is our sin. Jude 1:11 warns us to avoid "the way of Cain." (Also see 1 John 3:12) This is an obvious reference to his way of life. While his descendants were cut off at the flood, the wicked spirit that guided him remains to this day. Does that help?
