  • Come along with us as we show you one of our recent caving projects from earlier this year using Fluorescein Dye Tracing!
Last fall we were contacted by one of our local communities who were seeking help with determining some groundwater in their area. A sand quarry had purchased a large piece of previously residential land and has plans on mining it. The community, concerned about the runoff and potential harm wanted to know where the creek on top of the mountain flows downstream and what it could potentially affect.
We did our groundwork and determined we would only need three dye receptor points and would only be using one dye for the project.
Watch along as we do the ground work and share our results.

You sure do some interesting projects! Glad the community came together to get this documented. I’m surprised the company wasn’t required to or at least checked before they bought the property! It’s surprising how easy it is to pollute these hidden underground sources. Mike Young has a vid where he dived a sump to check on pollution. .
Thank you for this clear and instructive vid, I always wondered about this process.

The problem here is we are very rural so there are no zoning or planning commission to regulate it here. So here in Marion County, quarries can pop up wherever they want. This one has about 75 houses very close it. It's a mess and companies like this take advantage.

Very cool video. Gotta love science. Too bad the quarry is thinking about contaminating the water table. I took a semester of hydrology and water resources back in school. This put me back there.

What a beautiful place. They shouldn't be polluting the area!

Yes, it is a very beautiful place. The community is still battling the sand quarry as they quarry just applied for some air permits. Hoping there will be a public hearing with TDEC about it soon.

My Oceanography lecturer at University once dyed a Glacier in Svalbard with stuff like this. They got the mix ration wrong by a massive factor.
