TAG Caver
United States
Приєднався 20 лип 2022
I'm a Caver who lives in the HEART of TAG near Nickajack Lake in Tennessee. My husband, Jason, and I are active cave surveyors & have produced dozens of maps for local landowners. We have also helped on countless other survey/cave science projects (dye tracing/biological inventories) in this region. We are both National Speleological Society LIFE Members & both recognized as Fellows of the Society.
We have surveyed caves for the Appalachian Power Company in VA, The famous Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg, TN, & locally numerous mile-plus-long caves for private landowners. We have a love for caving & the outdoors and giving back to our community. When we are not surveying, we are having fun caving!
In addition to all of the caving we do, I love to explore the outdoors and everything around me. Come along with us on caving adventures and above-ground adventures such as hiking, kayaking, skiing & more!
You can email me at rowland7840@bellsouth.net

Black Friday Caving in One of Tennessee's Most Beautiful Caves
Come along with us as we visit one of Tennessee's most spectacular caves, Cumberland Caverns for some Black Friday Caving! Modern day Cavers have been exploring Cumberland Caverns since the early 1940's and it is the longest Show Cave in Tennessee with just over 27 miles of known cave passage. On this trip, we explore many passages including Virgin Ave, Davis Dome, Crystal Chasm, and the Sewing Room. We also see bones from a Lynx that made its way into this cave thousands of years ago and some fossilized sharks teeth.
The historic entrance to Cumberland Caverns (Higginbotham Cave) was first discovered around 1810 by an early settler, Aaron Higginbotham. By the 1860's at least two miles of cave had been explored by the local tax collector, Shelah waters. One of the other nearby entrances, Henshaw Cave, which was later connected to Cumberland Caverns was mined for saltpeter during the Civil War.
Modern day cavers began exploring Cumberland Caverns in the 1940's and 1950's. Many discoveries were made during this time including crossing of Devil's quarry, McCrady Canyon, Monument Pillar, the Waterfall Room, Fort's Gallery and the Onyx Curtain entrance, and the connection between the Higginbotham and Henshaw entrances. In 1956, Roy Davis and others discovered the Great Extension that included more than 6 miles of cave passage with the Grand Hall, Virgin Avenue, and the Crystal Palace.
Cumberland Caverns officially opened for tours in 1956 under the management of Roy Davis.
Cumberland Caverns is a complex multi level phreatic cave formed in the lower Monteagle Limestone (Mississippian). Much of the cave is formed beneath the Hartselle-capped benches of Cardwell Mountain. Damp red clay fill is the predominant sediment, particularly in smaller passageways. Numerous second deposits may be found in the cave. Dripstone Formations and Gypsum Flowers, Needles, and Crusts are especially prominent. There is no significant flowing water current in the cave.

How We Bought a Cave at a Tax Sale
Переглядів 3,2 тис.День тому
Come along with us as Jason and I show you the cave we purchased in a Tax Sale here in Marion County, Tennessee back in 2015. This cave is on five wooded acres, has a 163 foot deep entrance pit, followed by a second wet 40 footer and is 275 feet deep. This cave actually goes below the valley floor that we walk in to get up to it. In Tennessee, when you purchase land in a tax sale, you have to w...

Cavers were able to finally push through the breakdown and they discovered miles of large walking borehole passage. Through their survey and exploration efforts, they were able to event...

Come along with me as I hike out to a large jumble of sandstone boulders known as a rock town here on Lookout Mountain in Georgia that contain 1,000-year-old Native American pictographs. This area and shelter were once used by the late woodland and early Mississippian Native Americans and is located within a natural feature called a rock town. This rock town feature was formed when the Pennsylv...

Challenging Cave Passage: What Lies Beneath Alabama's Surface
As many have stated thank god this cave was spared destruction by a corporation who in many cases cover up discoveries and continue as if nothing was there Another great video !
Wow ! Loved every second of this ! I can only imagine the artifacts that other people have walked away with cause you know there had to be things left behind by the miners Do we know was this mined by the south or north and were the miners military or civilians ?
What a lucky duck! I've always wished I would find a cave on my property.
10:35 possibly a depiction of the sun
Beautiful ❤
Do you ever wonder why some of the ceilings are so FLAT? : )
It is strange how in some places you get a channel and some really flat. The only thing I can think of is water moved slower thru those areas.
I love this very special distal flower everywhere beautiful Cape🎉❤❤🎉
I know of a cave in the Sevierville area that I think is unexplored.
We don't get up that way often, but if you are willing to share details please email me at rowland7840@bellsouth.net
The camera women must not be getting enough, so transfixed on the phallus shaped arrows.
I noticed that we could see your breath. It must have been between 25 and 35 degrees f.
Our caves here are on average 58 degrees. I think it was pretty cold outside that day though, definitely colder than the cave was
Thank You for making this video and sharing this One of A Kind experience with us online. Climb On!!!
Thank you 👍
I’m a 4 hour drive from Nelson Rocks over here in Va. but it definitely looks like it’s worth the drive.
Mudfossil University says it’s a giants insides. It sure looks that way.
30:25 Dragon couldn’t digest the shield;)
Great video! I visited Cumberland quite some time ago, before they were doing wild tours. Loved seeing all the gypsum formations. Some of the subaqueous formations were unique. I tried to ignore all the carbide writing as most of it was somewhat historic. Those were rather interesting arrows, lol. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, yeah we know the manager and her spouse so we get to go off tour unofficially. It's such a wonderful cave and so much to see there.
I shared my dig interest with an obliging land owner for about 20 years. The next owner inspected my dig, heard why the dig exposed bedrock, and said it was ideal as is. A cottage industry start-up. Without me. I was soon happily digging miles away
This video really brought home the difference between electric and carbide. I've never been to Cumberland Caverns but so many Kentucky and Tennessee caves have similar passages. Seeing them so brightly lit just shows how much we missed and how different it looked in our little pools of light but also how much more isolated it felt. Great video. Loved it and keep up the good work.
Thank you, yeah, caving headlamps have come a long way.
Next best thing to first person !
We always relate to things by our own measurements. Meaning, the cave opened 4 days before I was born. July 1956 is my birth year.
Flow stone is ancient fecal matter so basically all the caves are anal passages of dead Titan beings. The color is consistent in all caves of light brown/beige at the bottom.
Roger sent me here to see the dragons hole… 19:38 that must be a new species of frog(?)
Thank you. I'm honestly not sure what kind of frog it was.
My friends and i used to drive out and park by the railroad and carry a party ball of draft beer and other party supplies to put on the Bar and spend all night in Banger ( Bangor ) cave . This was 98 - 03 i would say before it was bought by some guy .
LOOK AT THAT FORMATION!!!!!!! NICE VIDEO THANKS
Thank you 😊
Nice, but I'd rather watched the walk from pit to pit, than all the rigging at the second pit, thanks, and I'd try to move your head slower so the vids be less shakey, but good stuff nonetheless, thanks, also curious about how some decides we're to dig to find a cave?
The walk from The bottom of the pit to the second pit is literally 20 ft. So you did see it all. You may have just not realized it.
Cavers do what is called ridge walking in the winter time to look for new caves. It's all based on the geology.
Mud puppy here from MudfossilU! Great work and Thank you!
Thank you
I want to buy a cave at a tax sale-what a deal!
Right!
The water looks crystal clear have you tested it to see what’s in it? Also if you want to read a good caving book, sort of a spy versus spy thing and unfortunately I don’t know if it’s still in print but the title is, “shibumi.”
Oh yes, very familiar with Shibumi. A good caver friend told us about it many years ago.
Hi, 👋, 1 Rope. no back-up, you guys are, CrAzY, otherwise I'll be 🛶🎣🌲🐟🐠
Crevice cave...you didn't have to repel in there are other entrances😮
Yes, we know. We wanted to and we did a thorough trip. We exited a different entrance
That's a nice little cave you've got there. Looks like there are some nooks and crannies still to investigate.
You all are crazy. I would of just taken the stairs. 😬
😂😂😂
Omg that cave beginning so reminds me of a V*****🤣
😂
What’s the Caves name?
Thanks for taking us along for the adventure and tour of your cave loved it
Thank you 🥰
@@tag_caver you’re very welcome
Nice! Thanks for sharing Kelly 👍
Ty 😊
Dont take a women along they ruin every trip and adventure. End of video.
Wow Kelly, this is Great! I appreciate you sharing this cave. Found this video from the FB post about the NSS getting in your business. Scoutmaster Boyd
Thank you Laromie!
My bucket list, owning my own cave. Sweet cave. Maybe expanding it?
Possibly, would have to figure out where that air is coming from.
The panic attack this would cause me to have
😢
Declined a cave offered to me in Putnam County as my purchased residence was elsewhere in TAG. After Discovery and Grade-5 Cartography of what I then named Rich Bitch Cave. "There are free use caves thereabouts so why buy one", I asked myself.
12,000 "known and logged caves" and who knows how many to yet be found in Tennessee alone! Hope we get to see you all get your lights in some virgin caves were no lights have shown before nor cameras captured!
Right! We love living here and exploring caves. I believe there is a lot left to be discovered too!
Thank you so so much for posting this hike. I have bad arthritis in my back and hips and could never do it at my age. Fall is my favorite season also. ❤❤❤
You are welcome. Thank you for watching and commenting.
That is impressive actually buying a cave - thx for the vid it's a good one - and I'm proper jealous haha
Thank you
I just can't get past the impression that this is the fossilized body of some giant creature! It looked like you entered into it's bowels and the mud in the big room was the contents of it's last meal!! Creepy cool!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Jason’s singing is amazing!
He's been asking me to put more of him in our videos :)
Nice playground! You and Jason are living the dream!
We try!
Nice! Amazing how a small hole opens up into a large cave.
So.. when you open a caving school in your cave? Maybe have year round cave rescue training for first responders. You could make a fortune.
There is already a great rescue squad in Chattanooga!
Ever since you mentioned that you bought this…. I have wanted to see this !
@@tag_caver but not a caveing school..😁
@@crippledbeast_U-toob we have lots of local Grottos, that are caving clubs that help with that kind of stuff.
That’s so cool. I’ve always wanted to own a cave, or even some land with potential. It is a nice cave, with some definite leads off that breakdown room in the back. With that kind of depth, I would think there would be some upper level development. Someday, you might just break through and find even more passage. Thanks for sharing.
We feel very blessed.
What obligations do you have in warning trespassers about the cave?..... otherwise ,wow, I wish I owned a cave!
Caving is a known recreational activity here and caves are very common here. So people in the woods around here are aware. Our county has almost 800 caves and there are almost 12,000 in the state of Tennessee
Great cave. Congratulations
Thank you
