This morning I got up early and started my day with breakfast. First I put on the kettle to make tea and wrap up something to eat. My house was completely messy and before leaving it I decided clean it up . I also needed to go to the grocery store to buy some food. The store was far from my house but I had went on foot to lose some weight because during the winter I put on a few kilograms. Before leaving the house I put my warm clothes on and also put my moisturizing cream on to keep my skin soft. In cold weather my skin get dry and itchy.I knew that it would be difficult for me to lose weight if I didn't put myself on a diet and actively move. While I walking on foot I put on my favorite english song and enjoyed listening to it by earphones. Later I was coming home when my dad called me and said that my mom was sick and she needed me. I actually believed him but after he put my mom on. She laughed and said that my dad was just putting me on. She was completely healthy. Sometimes my dad loves joking around. At the end of the day I got bored and called my friend to come over. As always he was put on a baby watching duty as his mom went shopping. After an hour my friend finally showed up. We talked much about the day and later watched a comedy where Jen was putting on a play in Toronto. My friend was totally into betting and he was thought that Jen would gain millions subscribers and he put 20$ on her. We had a fun and enjoyed a lot. It was too late and I was exhausted. Even if I was so sleepy I put on a smile for my friend so he wouldn't feel awkward. Later he felt that I wanted to rest he said good night and headed home. Before going to bed I watched news to see what's new. As always the government put tax on goods and services. After a while I suddenly drifted off on the couch without watching the news till the end. The end.

Hi Jen, I made a story after watching this video.
On a day in winter, having putting on a coat, I and my friends went out to watch horse racing. We decided to put $50 on a hourse there. I put on my favorite music and was listening while watching the race. But I felt sleepy because the air conditioners were put on and it's warm enough for me to fall asleep, in addition, i had taken a medicine for cold that day which my doctor put me on. However, my friends were beside me, so i tried putting on being awake but failed...
when I woke up, my friends seriously told me that the hourse we bet lost the race. I was dissapointed to hear that. but then they started laughing.
it turned out that they were just putting me on!
After we got home, I put them on duty to massage my shoulders for having told a lie.

😃Thanks for watching this phrasal verb lesson and for creating such a great story using so many different meanings of put on 🤗.
      I really enjoyed reading your story 🐎 🎶 😴 💊 💰.
All of your sentences were great, but unfortunately we can't say 'put on being awake'. It would be more natural to say something like, "I tried to stay awake and put on an energetic appearance, but I failed..." 😊. Now I'm going to try to find a way to get my husband on massage duty for me 😜.

Thanks for answering Question of the Day and noticing that I put on Doraemon earrings when filming this lesson😃. A few months ago I took a trip to Japan and visited the Fujiko F. Fujio Museum which renewed my interest in Doraemon😊. Since you seem like a Doraemon fan, I recommend putting the museum on your itinerary if you're ever in Kanagawa🤩.

I am happy you enjoyed this phrasal verb lesson. I think I may have explained one of the points incorrectly, sorry. It doesn't really make sense to say 'put on a funny mood'.Maybe you mean to say, I put on a funny face 🤪.
In English if you say you are in a funny mood, it means that you feel strange or weird, maybe irritated or kind of down. 😅

Thanks for sharing more sentences using 'put on' 😃.
For the second sentence I think it would be most natural to say, "The doctor put you on antibiotics." 👩‍⚕️

    • @imshakedown
      @imshakedown 3 місяці тому

In my opinion, both of these sound wrong.
I would phrase them like this:
      1A - "I'll put 30 dollars in your account."
      1B - "I'll put 30 dollars into your account."
Both of these are fine, but I prefer 1B here, since "into" emphasizes the movement/transfer of money better.
However, if I was speaking in past tense, I would prefer to say "I put 30 dollars in your account." In past tense, I think "in" feels more natural because the movement/transfer of money has already ended. Keep in mind, this only applies to the verb "put". For example, "I transferred 30 dollars in your account" would be wrong, because the verb "transfer" implies movement from one place to another.
Therefore, for past tense, you can say either of these:
"I put 30 dollars in your account."
"I transferred 30 dollars into your account."
      --------------------------------
2A - "The doctor put antibiotics on your prescription."
2B - "The doctor added antibiotics to your prescription."
I believe 2A is the correct way of phrasing what you were trying to say, but it doesn't sound as natural as 2B. Therefore, I prefer 2B.
Also, in the US, prescriptions are usually handled individually, not as a list. So I would actually prefer to say:
"The doctor gave you a prescription for antibiotics."
      --------------------------------
Sorry if I made things way too complicated. I just wanted to give as much context/nuance as possible.
