    2,000 songs! That's awesome. I have been searching for a way to leave my bulky phone at home. Great tips! That's so adorable that your fam tracked you down with the watch's GPS signal to surprise you😊

      Haha, yeah I only have about 60 songs. 😂 Yes, I love it when they do that! Plus it's just nice knowing that my husband knows where I'm at in case anything were to seem amiss.

    Thanks for sharing! I just got the same watch from my husband for this upcoming Mother's day and was worried if I made the right decision as it is super expensive. I currently have an old Forerunner 235 and have had it for the past 5 years and totally love it but wanted a watch with all the same running features but more fitness profiles for when I go to the gym. Your video helped me feel better and reassured me that I made the right choice :)

      Hi Elissa! Sounds to me like you gave your 235 a great run and it was time for a nice upgrade! I'm glad that you found the video helpful - I really appreciate the kind feedback. Happy Mother's Day to you...after this past year, there's no doubt you've earned it!

      That's awesome - thanks Jon! I have one in the works for the Forerunner 55 along with a few other non-Garmin $200ish watches.

    For tracking future need take phone with you so a bit pointless to have music on the watch in my opinion
    Great review. Thanks
    Garmin is the best 🤩

      Thank you so much for watching and commenting! You are correct in that if you want to use LiveTrack, you'll need your phone with you. For shorter runs around my neighborhood I'm ok not using LiveTrack, but those are also the runs I care less about having music, too haha. So for sure would be nice to have the ability to use both music and LiveTrack...they've just come up with the solution with the 945 LTE! Hoping to have the chance to review that watch at some point.

    I would be surprised that the sleep tracker is based only on HR. I have a Fenix 3 which does not have an internal HR sensor and it still tracks my sleep. It is able to distinguish deep sleep and light sleep. I believe the watch uses other sensors for sleep tracking. Of course it might add the HR in the mix when the watch has it but the sleep tracker is not only based on HR alone, that is for sure. The music feature... I don't know. I find that very dangerous and I feel very uncomfortable not to be able to hear my surroundings when outside. So I would never use that feature. I am curious though how the Fenix 3 compares to the 6 in terms of display. And the map feature is appealing to me. Wonder if that is enough to upgrade.

      Hi Pascal - thanks for your comment!
      I now see there is sleep update for the Fenix 6 and I think it's supposed to be a lot better now so I'm going to try it out. I'm actually in the middle of testing out the budget Polar Ignite 2 for another video and I'm pretty impressed with its sleep tracking so hopefully the much more expensive Fenix 6 has it together now.
      From what I gather, the Fenix is able to track sleep by using the optical heart rate sensor which measures both heart rate and heart rate variability as well as by using the accelerometer (so it knows when you're laying down). It will also measure your pulse ox with the pulse oximeter.
      Agree on music being dangerous, though I think if you use bone-conducting headphones on a low volume like I do, it's pretty safe as you can still hear your surroundings. I review them here: ua-cam.com/video/Gk9YPt2pQVw/v-deo.html
      As far as the display and maps, the Fenix 6 is top notch. The maps are useful for anyone running trails and I was able to easily get back on the trail after I got a little lost one day. I will say, if the maps are important to you I'd opt for the larger Fenix 6 or 6X.

    I have both the Fenix 6 sapphire and the 945. I do use the 945 in racing because it is much lighter. I agree that Apple Watch is very inferior when compared with a Garmin

    • @runningwithjane
      @runningwithjane  2 роки тому

      Yes - the Fenix is so heavy! After I made this video I got a Garmin Forerunner 55 to review...and it has become my go to watch for most training runs and all my racing. I could not believe how much lighter it was!

    Does it have the breadcrumb style mapping option too ? Us older folk whose eyes aren't as good really just need to see larger numbers/letters and arrows. Topo's are useful but only if you can read the digits on the contour lines. Street maps would be useful though.

    • @runningwithjane
      @runningwithjane  3 роки тому +1

      Great question and you're right - the specific elements on watch topo maps can be tough to see! So it looks like there *may* be a workaround for the Fenix 6 to just do breadcrumb navigation, but seems pretty involved...you might want to look into the Garmin 745 which has breadcrumb-style mapping or consider the Garmin Fenix 6X which has the largest screen.

      Absolutely get that! Garmin Forerunner 55 is much less expensive and does a fantastic job for a road runner if that one is in your price range definitely consider it. (Or the last model Forerunner 45 could also be a good option.)

    The garmin is actually less accurate than the Apple Watch. Particularly the wrist heart rate sensor. There’s many very large tech UA-camrs who advise the Apple Watch is much more accurate than garmin.
    I personally love the look of garmin more. The battery life is better on garmin for sure!! I’d say you’re bang on with the rest. It’s just a shame that garmin heart rate sensor wasnt more accurate

    • @runningwithjane
      @runningwithjane  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment and insight, Matt! I don't have the newest Apple Watch so couldn't fully compare there, but the GPS of all my Garmins has always been spot on. Funny enough, the HR sensor in my much cheaper Forerunner 55 is very, very good...so it was a shame I didn't have the same results from the Fenix.

      @@runningwithjane hang on in there as the venu 2s heart rate sensor is excellent. That’s a gen 3 and will go onto the fenix 7 whenever it’s released :) . I’m really looking forward to the fenix 7 as I think it’s going to be a great and complete Watch!

      Hey Simon - that's awesome! Having the ability to charge the watch from sunlight is definitely worth the extra $ and of course it's just such a highly durable and high-functioning watch all around. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Really just wish they would implement a smart alarm for sleep. It's not a new concept or anything but i used to use a Pebble (which is now a dead company), which used movement in sleep to determine my phase of sleep. I would set a target of when to wake up, along with a window of time beforehand (usually 30 minutes) where the watch will try its best to wake me up in the light sleep phase so that I don't wake up feeling like I got hit by a truck when I rely on a fixed alarm. It worked really well for me, as I always woke up feeling way less groggy. It doesn't matter if garmin fixed their sleep tracking -- if they're not making good use of the data, then it doesn't help imo.

    • @runningwithjane

      Never thought of that but such a great idea! Maybe someday Garmin will have that...

    • @DogHairDontCare
      @DogHairDontCare 2 роки тому +1

      @@runningwithjane I've been reading around and apparently it's a feature that people have been asking for for years! Maybe they weren't confident in the feature yet due to lack of sleep tracking accuracy, but I heard they updated it last year to make it better. We'll see.

    Loved the review. Is the gold colour long-lasting? When it comes to HR accuracy, Apple Watch is the clear winner.

    • @runningwithjane
      @runningwithjane  3 роки тому +2

      The gold color definitely lasts though I wouldn't say it is quite as bright in person as how it looks on the box photo. But I love it! As far as the HRM...I don't know why my Fenix doesn't do well with this...my much less expensive Garmin Forerunner 55 is very accurate.

    How do you feel about the watch now? Do you still love? I’m torn between buying one for 70% off or getting the Venu 2s.

      It's a beautiful watch - I still wear it a lot, but I wear my much less expensive Forerunner 55 for most of my runs. I wouldn't personally buy it now with the tech that is now available. I don't know much about the Venu 2 though other than that it's touchscreen...I prefer the buttons personally.

    How accurate would this watch be for indoor track usage?

    • @runningwithjane
      @runningwithjane  2 роки тому

      Hey there! That's a great question...the more you wear the watch the more it customized your stride length so I would assume it would use that to figure out your distance. Though utilizing a foot pod would probably be your best bet, hopefully the Fenix would at least be fairly similar. Unfortunately I don't know for sure as I've never tried it on an indoor track.
