    Looks great!! As a mason by trade and someone who makes mortar counter tops for fun, id suggest for your next one using some intergral color, or color hardener and a basic slate stamp mat to imprint and give a natural stone look.. I'd use a charcoal antique release on the stamp mat to give it shading..and spray or wipe those particle board forms with old engine oil so they come off easier

      Thanks a lot Tyler, I'm imagining how it could come following your advice and I really like it! Surely for the next sink I'll try to do as you say, especially with regard to the release agent

    Liquid soap with watter spray to break surface tention on separator, and avoid bubbles, easier release. Vibration is crucial, use a vibrating grinder for example. Isnt it very heavy?

    I'm already doing concrete counter tops might as well go with the concrete sink! its either this or a $300+ apron sink... Beauty of doing a concrete sink is; if your willing to put in the "elbow grease" you custom make the sink to your desired dimensions and not be limited to whatever they sell in metal! ... great job I hope mine ends up half as good as yours.

    Nobody does the old school way of getting the airbubbles out? Just move a little bit around through the conrete with a stick and shake it up a little bit, then you have all the air out

    • @Monarca
      @Monarca  5 років тому +1

      Since it was the first time I used the cement I was informed about how to eliminate the bubbles .. I found several indications, including the one I used in the video (tap against the formwork), but I did not find anything about the technique that you say. Surely I can try it for the next project, thanks for the info!

    • @Cent51
      @Cent51 5 років тому +1

      You did not put enough time in vibrating your concrete mix, the more time you put into vibrating the better the out come of the cast..
      Yes a stick pushed into the mix, a orbital sander to vibrate the side, a hammer to knock on the frame..
      The longer the time you put in to vibrate and removing the bubbles, the smoother you could of gotten the surface.
      Also adding a bonding liqaud nto the concrete which would make it water proof from the word go..

    GOOD JOB THERE. I would recommend applying only cement mixture using a 2 inch brush to seal off the air spaces then let it dry for a day, then you can sand it with ease. Anyway well done.

      40 millimiters

    • @Monarca
      @Monarca  4 роки тому

      What you describe is quite the procedure I did. The only problem was that the layer of cement added after it was not perfectly welded to the first one, which led to the fact that in the sanding phase the last layer was slightly ruined.

    So how do stop stains from forming from every single thing you out down this sink?

    • @Monarca
      @Monarca  4 роки тому

      I can't understand if you are referring to the stains that form in the sink or outside the sink .. However in the sink they do not form thanks to the concrete sealer that I applied, and the drops of water do not come out of the sink because it is large enough to avoid it.

  • @chrisw7402

    Nice Job, end result is awesome. Would have been good to save the template. (And ship it to me). Just made a hearth and mantle, so I know how much sweat goes into this. Labor of love. Next time maybe use GFRC instead of the rebar. You can get the concrete down to less than 0.5" thick. Your basin must have neen heavy, but I guess you only need to move it once.

    • @Monarca
      @Monarca  6 років тому +1

      Thank you! Surely using GFRC I could have made it thinner. It is a material that I will take into account for future projects. I broke the template when I pulled out the sink, but if you want I can send you the 3D model file

      Hola Ramón, ¡gracias por el comentario! Para realizarlo utilicé hormigón puro, una malla de acero (si fuera hierro sería mejor), madera para hacer el encofrado y un imprengante del que os dejo el enlace. En mi opinión, las cosas a las que debes prestar atención son:
      - evalúe bien el grosor para asegurarse de que aguanta pero no se vuelve excesivamente pesado (en mi opinión, si utiliza la malla de hierro, puede mantenerlo con seguridad en un grosor de pared de 30 35 mm)
      - al realizar el encofrado, tenga cuidado de dejar la pendiente para drenar el agua. Me ha dejado bastante pero cada vez que lo uso me digo a mí mismo que aunque me quedara más estaría mejor;
      - Tenga cuidado al realizar el encofrado de utilizar desmoldante de silicona para retirarlo cuando el hormigón esté seco, de lo contrario será extremadamente difícil.
      ¡Buena suerte en tu trabajo!

      Even I would be a little worried about doing everything in one piece. You have to pay attention to more problems you may incur. For example, you need to make sure you can make the cement fast enough, to make sure that you mix everything well. But if you can, it will surely be a good job

    • @Monarca
      @Monarca  6 років тому

      Mmm, I don't know .. I'm still struggling on the thing. In fact without music you would hear the background sounds better and certainly would be easier in video editing. But I like to hear some music while the pictures are running.
      You think it would be best of all without music?

    • @womanphisiquebr
      @womanphisiquebr 6 років тому +1

      Monarca It depends on the production. There are many Japanese videos, for example, with only the ambient sound. I also like to hear sound during the videos but, especially when you want to teach something, the music should be secondary. In the case of this video the music is too "loud" and get more attention than the images.
      For me it was so annoying that I turned the sound off and the video got boring for that.
      But your intention was great and the video is useful. 🙂

    • @Monarca
      @Monarca  6 років тому

      I tried to notice the use of music in other videos similar to mine. An idea could be to make the music feel only in the points where I show what I did, and leave the moments in which I work without music. What do you say?

I have never heard of it being used on walls, but I know for sure that they use it for concrete floors before coloring them. Try to find out more, this is the product link
