No excuses for Fallon, but there's no way the network didn't know what was going on, if employees complained to HR multiple times over the years they should have handled the issue with Fallons behavior or cut him loose. But like some many other places, if the guy makes the network enough money, they're willing to look the other way on ask kinds of bad behavior.

Saw Maria Bartiromo in her pre-Fox days working with her crew as they set up for an interview that was to be before an audience. She was perfectly pleasant when the interview started.

    A few things,
#1: why didn't he apologize for his behavior before the report became public knowledge?!
#2: why did he say "Sorry 'if' I embarrassed..."; he did, so there is NO if?!
#3: maybe a point of my taste, I grew tired of the Tonight Show several years ago, as it seemed to be juvenile, and refused to allow guest to be truly interviewed. It was more about Mr. Fallon talking about himself and getting praise from his guest.
#4: if a female such as Ellen DeGeneres can be forced off the air for her behind-the-scenes conduct, should it be the same for a male?!
    Just some thoughts...

Any company, business or outfit with a high employee turnover is managed by bad people; they'll always blame the employees instead of the owner or managers.
    My Mom

    • @herbescobar2974
      @herbescobar2974 11 місяців тому

It's not necessarily true that any company with a high employee turnover is managed by "bad" people. Employee turnover can be influenced by various factors, and it's important to consider a range of possibilities before making such a judgment.
Employee turnover can result from several factors, including:
Market Conditions: In some industries or during economic downturns, high turnover can be common, even in well-managed companies. Market factors may lead to layoffs or reduced job security.
Company Culture: A toxic or unpleasant workplace culture can drive employees away, regardless of the management's intentions. Poor leadership or inadequate HR practices can contribute to this.
Job Fit: Sometimes, employees leave because the job isn't the right fit for their skills or interests, even if the company is well-managed.
Career Growth: Employees may seek new opportunities for career growth or advancement, which might not be available within their current organization.
Compensation and Benefits: Competitive compensation and benefits packages can be essential in retaining employees. If a company can't offer these, employees may leave for better offers elsewhere.
Management Practices: While it's true that poor management practices can contribute to high turnover, not all managers or owners will necessarily blame employees. Some take responsibility and work to improve retention.
It's essential to assess the specific circumstances of a company before making sweeping judgments about its management or employees. High turnover can be a sign of various issues, and addressing those issues effectively is crucial for improving retention and overall company performance.

One of my worst reviews came from a very mean woman. She later supervised an employee of the year. That employee collapsed from the stress of working with that boss. I just think back to how Jimmy Fallon pranked Taylor Swift vs how Ellen Degeneres did it.
Ellen would constantly jumpscare Taylor. Jimmy received a video from Taylor's mom. (the one where she cried about a banana or something? 😅) Or when Dakota Johnson was their guest. Dakota called out Ellen for lying, Dakota told Fallon to "let her talk". Clearly one is nicer than the other.
Idk, to me it looked like the only bad things they could say about Fallon was his awful delivery, his drinking and the allegedly fake laughs. People feel some sort of ownership over celebrities because they entertain us, make us laugh, and otherwise let us escape our own lives for a period of time. When they are shown to have flaws, people feel betrayed because they've given up a portion of their life watching the celebrity only to find out they're not who they thought.

Haven’t read the Rolling Stone article, but based on several decades of film and television work experience, I don’t buy the way this is being presented. Jimmy Fallon may have acted and done all of the things alleged, but it would have been in a very limited circle of elite producers, writers, and “handlers” who always are there happily placing them selves in a position of power by surrounding the “star” and demanding that all communication to and from that person filters through them. Those people are EQUALLY responsible for the “toxic” work environment in every way, because, at the very least, they are the ones disseminating it to department heads and production staff. It would be unprecedented to think that Jimmy Fallon was day to day directly managing or supervising any of them.

Fallon is over the top and fake with his constant hysterics over the slightest funny thing, and he "loves" everything a celeb talks about. Why do they think people want to watch this?

There's a lot of verbal and mental abuse going on in TV shows. I think the problem starts at the very top. Remember, NBC has been sold and bought many times by different corporations whose interests are purely financial, not necessarily entertainment or newsworthy. I worked in a film years ago and one of the executive producers came from tv and had the habit of screaming and belittling people in front of other coworkers. He tried it with me once and after the third word I put him in his place in front of everyone and sent him to eat a toilet full of ... It never happened again. Once my contract was done, I went to work for another production company that was not so trailer trash with money. And, I think that is one of the issues in American society. The great thing is that you don't have be "royalty" to make it. You can make it if you work hard and know the right people. However, many people have zero class. I usually invite people for dinner to see if they can eat properly with a fork and a knife to get an idea of the type of work environment we're gonna have. Most Americans don't know how to properly use them.

    • @bryanismyname7583

interesting test. I think you make a good point about the corporate mentality. I work in retail and often there is very little incentive given to employees at some of these companies, despite the fact that they are what make the company money. But like you say, it starts at the top. My rental complex was once owned by a company that was very customer friendly and had "customer appreciation month" every year, with bbqs, games and a chance for neighbors to get to know each other. I was only able to attend a few, but things changed when they were bought out by another company. The new company was efficient but not as customer accessible. They moved the property office to another location and changed the management structure, ending those kinds of events. So, my point being that corporate mentality can really make a difference, but it doesn't have to be run that way. In the entertainment world, the corporate mentality has affected not just the work environments in some areas, but the product being offered to audiences, as well. The movie industry is "franchise happy" these days, catering to teens almost exclusively, and that's because the corporate execs only care about the money and not the entertainment value, for the most part. They aren't creative in the way some execs used to be. This also goes to the way employees are treated and the interactions between management and employees.

JF never drove in without screeching his car to a stop and spraying stones on those in the lot, screaming at the boys for immediate service, throwing keys and telling them to crawl for their $5 bill he threw on the ground while railing that he had no idea why he needed to pay to have his car parked, glaring, snapping and snidely blasting guests and servers. The owner finally had to ask him to take his business elsewhere. JF always stunk and slurred throughout, and yet, the busy restaurant soon had to close for lack of customers. -If JF is ever mentioned around my 26 year old well-settled son, he turns red, shudders, and quickly leaves the room. Only time I ever see him not completely composed. That JF scared the you-know-what out of those boys week after week, month after month, and it’s still with him. And apparently, me. - Do not buy that boyish schtick he puts on. He’s mean, selfish and cruel to youngsters who are working to pay for school uniforms and baseball equipment.

Dang, I had a manager like that. Anything will set him off and the reaction would not warrant what has occurred. Something as simple as the adjustment to a document would be wrong and other mangers would ask for it to be revised and he would flip his 💩 And I would be in the corner thinking to myself like you're the one that messed it up in the first place so why are you losing it?! They should be the ones losing it on you. Ppl with mood disorders shouldn't be managers. Just sayin. It affects their judgements. GLAD I never have to see him again. He tried to mood out on me and I snapped back and he kept purposefully f-ing files and dump it on me the last 30 min like I f-ed it up. I fixed it and ppl complimented me on the work but ppl would never know all the poo-poo that went on behind the scene so I really feel for the workers there. It was also for a big Cable TV place. I was kinda like is this just holly wood BS or what? It was all very unnecessary.

I can only imagine that some of the top folks working beneath him got fed up and left. Contrast him with Conan O'Brien, whose humor is often self-deprecating and is known to treat his employees well, and it's clear who is the funnier of the two. At any rate, I hope he's being true to his words and changes his behavior down the road.

It's the Christian folks who can't get along with others, and throw their weight around. That seems to be the pattern I've experienced, even though I grew up Baptist. Jimmy Fallon, king of late night fun,
But backstage, some things couldn’t be undone.
The Rolling Stones uncovered a tale,
Of a workplace vibe that was off the scale.
Short in stature, but tall in pride,
Had a little Napoleon tucked inside.
    Moody days and tempest nights,
Keeping employees in a grip so tight.
But then the story began to unroll,
And Jimmy realized he'd dug a hole.
He offered an apology, said "Oops, my bad!",
Hoping to mend the reputation he had.
He should have known, in comedy's realm,
It’s better to be the captain, not overwhelm.
Now Jimmy, next time you start feeling grand,
Remember to keep a gentle hand.
It’s never too late to change one’s tone,
And create a workplace where kindness is shown.
We hope for Jimmy, a lesson's been learned,
And a more compassionate page he's turned.

Comedy shows in front of a live audience require impeccable timing and presentation. Having a lot of people in that process to deliver opens up opportunity for failure - thus tremendous pressure on the person or people delivering the punch line/content to the audience. They are the only one the audience sees.
I would almost think the environment would be intense like a sports team would be on game day. The highs and lows are likely extreme. I would think people would know that going in.

What people don't realise is the nature of comedians , some of the people who are great comedians sadly have flawed inner souls.
From drugs, alcohol, gambling, high sexual needs, and some suffering from depression, as well as low esteem Making people laugh night after night is hard work.
Many have dark souls, such as Robin Williams, a great actor , a brilliant comedian, and one of a kind. Sadly, his demons got to him.

I worked in theater and TV for years and there seem to be two major "types" of performers... those who are friendly and will mingle with the crew and those who feel the need to be alone to keep their concentration. I found this especially true with comedians, where timing in a joke is really, really important. On one hand some are funny ALL the time... Ann Meara is one of those, others are very serious off stage and you leave them alone! Not all actors of any kind feel secure in their talent or chosen profession.
I will say that the crew that supports them really do appreciate an acknowledgement of their existence and for the work they do. and a thank you. As a lighting designer, I have mentioned to actors that they need to hit their mark because they aren't nearly as funny if they can't be seen... and if they are not nice to the LD and the crew... it can get very dark where they are! 😊
