  • During this video we will build a PL-10E point motor fitted with Peco's PL-15 Twin Micro-switch and Peco's Pl-34 wiring loom.
Once built and roughly setup we will proceed to fit the switch under the baseboard and wire it to switch the electro-frog polarity as the point (turnout) is thrown and to set the layout panel LEDs to display the route direction.
We'll be using the PL-26 switches housed in a PL-50 switch block to aid the installation. Using Express Model's solder-less wiring, the whole installation will remain solder less throughout.

I found when putting these together many times over. That if you have a piece of scrap wood with a hole drilled in it you start to bend the tangs with pliers, but then stand the point motor on the piece of wood with the short end in the hole. You can then fininsh bending the tangs over with a dot punch (3/16 is what I use),or an old flat bladed screwddriver. I did like the tip about centreing the bush prior to fitting.

youll be happy to hear that peco is producing a new point motor with the microswitches built in, thus no assembly required

Very instructional. Nut drivers (small screwdriver with a hex driver on the end) looks a good investment!!

Great tutorial...micro switches are a very useful, gets you out of some tricky situations?

Great video and informative, but could you please tell me what CDU, do you have and how many points does it work.??

Hi Martin, I am afraid that I cannot get to the back of the layout to check because it is stored away ready for selling. If I recall correctly, there was a small black box (probably from Peco) which was wired between the layout and an old analogue controller from my OO gauge from 30 plus years ago. It powered all of the points on the layout.

Are the micro switches absolutely necessary? Can I run the motor without hooking up the micro switches or can the micro switch unit be left off? The reason I ask is because I may be running insul-frog points (PECO) for my DCC layout. Thanks.

switches are used to change the polarity of the electrofrog. Insulfrog points don't have an electrified frog, and therefore no need for a switch.

The washer goes on the nut side - not needed on head side.

Thanks for your comment and for visiting my video. I do try not to block the view but sometimes it was very hard when working in confined places with small items. Sorry for any issues caused on this occasion.

Probably much, much too late now but what a poor explanation video. It didn't say how to drill the motor shaft hole and what size, it didn't show which wires went where (Just a comment "I've connected up the wires" - where from and to? At one point he called the point the point motor, etc, etc. If you are going to publish anything then check there are no mistakes or omissions. Not very helpful for a newbie to the hobby.
