My ketones are at 8.0 today… as far as I know, I am not diabetic. I was tested for diabetes a few months ago, and was negative. I do not follow keto strictly. But I do mostly eat meat and and vegetables. So I’m a little concerned that my ketones are so high, but I’m not diabetic. Not sure what to do…
Yeah I'm not diabetic either and my strip said 8.0 and I eat fish and veggies glad to know there is nothing to worry about. Just wanted to be sure whew 😂
i do IF, Keto, Exercise, my ketone is ~7. And all other sites mention that ketone above 3 is alarming. This makes me worry sick, i afraid of having too much ketone. This video lowers my cortisol, thank Doc.
Woke up with ketones at 3.2 and my glucose at 67 and panicked thinking I was going into keto acidosis after 2 days of 18-6 IF. Dr. Berg you’re such a HUGE help!
Have been doing Omad and intermittent fasting for almost 15 days , yesterday I was feeling weak and some head pain I had to go for a checkup and the doc told me my ketones are high, its true I haven't been eating carbs nor protein for a couples of days . Thanks doctor burg for this information its very helpful.
Thanks for this. I’m 2 weeks into keto and my levels often go up to 3-4 and I was worried. It was 4.6 this morning and I freaked so ate, even though I wasn’t hungry. My body must have been in fasting mode.
I tested Level 3 yesterday and the nurse was concerned. She made me wash my system through with water and increase my carb level a small bit to get the level 3 down.. Carbs are bad for t2 diabetics but "no carbs" is not the answer. A small amount of complex carbs is the answer. That's what T2's need to understand.
I measured my ketones for the 1st time today with my new KetoMojo and was a little concerned that the book said 4.7 was too high. I've been doing 4/20 intermittent fasting with keto. Thanks for clearing this up. You're my goto source for info Dr Berg.
Whew! I was freaking out thinking I was becoming diabetic because I've always had problems with carbs and sugar in the past and was a heavy drinker.. but now that I know its because I've been fasting I feel better lol I've been at 7.6 ketones on my meter and I was like what's wrong with me?? I don't have any diabetic symptoms so I was worried what else it could be. Thanks doc!
I'm still scared. I just measured 7.6 on my Keto Mojo and today I added some veggies in my eggs. I feel fine so much so I want to exercise. But instead I am drinking plenty of water. I wonder if I should eat some protein. That's all I have currently. I don't think I am diabetic. I started this journey because I felt I had prediabetic symptoms. Which all went away with my carnivore only diet. I broke my sugar addiction too. So today I had basil, spinach and some iceberg lettuce. I always have lemon and lime in my black tea and my morning water. How do I get my ketones down to a level I am comfortable with? Which is 5 or lower.
thank you for informing me about type 1 diabetics. I never knew that they suffered with this. I feel so bad for them. May the Lord keep them and bless them.
I know that the Lord can heal their diabetes instantly. They must want to be healed and ask for it in the name of Jesus Christ. I know that is why the Lord gives us doctors that have this knowledge and uses the knowledge to help sick people.

Not one person on this earth can tell me that Lord Jesus did not bring me through. Who are you to tell me that he does not exist. I am a living testimony. I choose what Jesus Christ says over what man says always. Our ways are not his ways and you had better be lucky. If the Holy spirit did not dwell in me, you would have been in hell already. I am a non insulin dependent diabetic doing keto and have been hospitalized 3 times for euglycemic (with normal blood sugars) keto acidosis. It may not be as rare as Dr Berg claims. Watch your key-tones .
I had a reading of 5.9 this morning and freaked out and ate 2 tablespoons of honey and 3 saltines. That's like 40 g of carbs for my body that has been in carnivore mode for 5 straight months. And stupid Google told me my ketones were dangerously high. Wish I would have found this video before I did a Google search. Lesson learned. Thanks for the visual! Super helpful!
One of the things you forgot to mention. Ketoacidosis I associated with an extremely high blood glucose level. 300 and up. At that point you will be extremely ill.
Man I just tested above a 5 for ketones and a 72 glucose and freaked out. So much info online says I could die so I broke my fast and ate a piece of a cookie to get sugar and carbs in. I was doing so well with my IF. I wish I saw this first
DOCTOR, please do a video of what high ketone levels 8+ mean in healthy non-diabetic people mean!!! I’m in the 80mg/dl range (I’m healthy) just from fasting and low carb diet. I’m freaking out along with many people. And you said “if you get to those high 7-9 levels, talk to your doctor to increase insulin.” ??? I don’t inject insulin. So what are healthy people supposed to do with high ketone levels like that??
I have Type 2 Diabetes for 20+ years. Been doing Keto + IF for a little over 1 year, recently added OMAD 3-4 x per Week. Quit my 2 insulins on Mother's Day so that I could burn more fat. Everything was going fine except my blood sugar levels were in the 5.8 - 6.5 mmol/L range instead of the 4.2 - 5.2 range they were in when I was taking my insulin. After a few weeks of this I was getting frustrated that they weren't coming down (after reading how so many others had quit their insulin and had b.s. levels of 4.1 - 5.1) so I took one dose of my meal time insulin thinking it would lower my blood sugar, and since it only lasts 8 hrs I would still have 16 hrs for fat burning. Win Win. All was good UNTIL the insulin wore off. I became light headed, dizzy, had nausea, my blood sugar kept rising, had shortness of breath. Ended up in the hospital emergency. They told me my glucose was 8.2 mmol/L, & my beta Hydroxybuterate (main ketone bodies) level was 3.1 mmol/L, so they put me on an IV for 5 hours. (Didn't give me any medicine instructions) When I got home my B.S. was still 6.9 so I took 10 mg of Glyburide To help my pancreas produce more insulin, then went to bed. In the morning my B.S. was 2.8! All day it never got higher than 4.2 no matter what I tried. It got as low as 2.2 mmol/L, but mostly between 2.5 - 3.3. Not a fun experience. So just be sure to monitor your blood sugar and ketone levels.
I wish you could be my doctor. I was fasting 14th day ketone hit 16 and I start feeling weird aching in the chest, my tongue was yellow I felt horrible. I had to drink some juice that helped to stop it. But before that I never had high sugar in blood, never though how could I be diabetic then?
Dr. Berg. I have been on keto for 7 mos and I feel good. I am close to the weight I want to be now but was mostly doing it for health benefits and it’s a great lifestyle change. My question is why after all this time does my urine ketones still test extremely high? Do I need to be concerned about this?
I started doing keto about a week ago, my levels now are 8mmol/l in urine, last meal was 5pm and measure at 10pm. I'm not diabetic. Should I add more protein or more fat? Thanks
A good way to fast is not to starve when you are on a keto diet. Do not eat anything after 8pm and then for breakfast only have your bullet coffee until lunch. You can go back to your keto plan until 8pm again and repeat for no more than 3 days. Don't starve yourself. You will see a couple of pounds weight loss at least. Too much protein can make you stall. We use the palm of our hand as our measurement and just pile on the fats when having protein. If your keto strips are dark purple, then you are out of "moderate" ketosis and it means you are not drinking enough water. Another weigh loss stall is eating the same thing all the time, and if you are using sugars like swerve or erythritol, too much of that will stall you sometimes.
TIP: If you ever hit a plateau during Keto/I.F. , do this, Fast for 2 day straight just drinking water & then eat ONE time and fast again for 2 more days. Ex: start Sunday night and eat Tuesday night 1 time only and start right away & eat again by Thursday night, you will see results immediately and probably lose 2-4 pounds of body fat during those 4 days, go back to noraml Keto/I.F. and start all over again next Sunday night till you hit ur goal.
Of course i think it will be easier for those people who are already eating 1 meal a day (OMAD) but if you eating 2-3 meals a day then start reducing it for a least 1 or 2 weeks till you hit OMAD & get use to it then I.F. for 2 days straight, trust me i lost around 4-5 pounds in those 4 days. I didnt feel bad or sick or anything, in fact i was feeling ton of energy (maybe cuz i was full keto adapted before i started it), my hunger only strike 1 time a day in the afternoon which is the time i eat during my already OMAD but i kept going, if you ever do this tip, when ur hunger strike dont give up quickly, keep going, trust me, it will go aways, just drink alot of water & put ur mind busy in something else till ur hunger disappears.
Mino R.D. I don’t think it practically works like this ... if you plateau on keto , do a carb cycling ,,, do hiit and then ., you will see results ... as per what you told ., it will further slow down your metabolism .., and all you will see will be a crash result , nothing for the long run .. !
An easier alternative is to do a DIY 5-day Fast Mimicking Diet. it doesn't slow down the metabolism, it gets you into deeper ketosis, and its health benefits are similar to a 5-day water fast.
Before trying the Agoge diet, I tried the keto diet and many other diets but none worked. With the Agoge diet, I lost so much persistent belly fat, finally getting that lean look.
Dr. Eric, I started on a keto diet about 2 weeks ago and just tested my urine for ketone levels. The color that came out was a dark purple which according to the scale means I'm at an 8 or above. I read an article that states that this is normal for beginners and that the number will drop once by body has adapted to my new diet. Is there any truth in that or should I visit my doctor as you recommended?
Can you please do a video on starvation ketoacidosis? My last prolonged fast I cut it short after 9 days because I got scared when my ketone meter read HI (above 8) and my blood sugar was low because I didn't know exactly how high my ketones were and I didn't want to end up sick. I'm 5 days into another prolonged fast and I really don't want to have to cut this one short, but I'm afraid of starvation ketoacidosis. 😬
I'm on a lower-carb diet, intermittent fasting (no breakfast), and my ketones are regularly 7.5 for the past few days. I do cardio every day for 10-20 minutes, sometimes just light, other times I do high intensity intervals. Is this safe? I was losing weight, but recently my weight has seemed to plateau.
I am type 1 diabetic on keto diet and one day I wake up with chest pain, headache, vomiting and I cannot even stand. I went to the hospital by ambulance and when they checked my keton it was 5 and they admit me to ICU. Why this happen ? Can someone explane
.. do you have any videos on when are low blood sugars dangerous?.. i did a 7 day fast.. ive never felt better before.. i had a doctors checkup and my blood sugar was around 62.. she said i needed to break the fast and quickly eat something because it was low.. she also mentioned someone tried fasting for a long period of time and didnt know what they were doing saying their sugar dropped to 20- something and ended up losing their life..
I've started keto diet recently and urine keto stripes always show +++ to ++++ (generally 7+ ) , but my blood sugar level is 4mmol, which is good. Should I be panicing about very high level of ketones or not? It stresses me out. No diabetes AFAIK.
I have had my ketones upto 7.2 but mostly they hover around 1 - 3. I am type 1 diabetic so all is good:) I remember going to hospital a few yrs back before i went on keto and my ketones were upto 1.... the Doctor freaked out telling me how dangerous that is :) :) :) I wonder what he would say if he knew my average was now above 1 ? ;)
Mal - T1D as well (pump with CGM). My GP freaks when she see's my A1C's in the low 5's. Wonder what she'll do when they come back in mid-to-low 4's (I've been on keto for 4 weeks, my sugars are flat-line low hovering between 60-70). Ketones this morning were 4.9 :)
How r u doing now. Do still follow keto diet? What are your levels now. I started my keto 4 days ago with firts two days fasting I also have 4.0 reading not as high as yours. I find that for my urine strips it is 15 seconds after wich the reading is not accurate anymore. So make sure to check instructions and also have a timer handy.
I love my Noodle I did a 30 day low carb juice fast mostly green juices with low carb rainbow (which doctors advice that t-1 diabetics don't ever do) to reset so as to give my digestive system a break, but mind you that you use alkaline vegetables and halve your dose of insulin in half in the beginning and see that you do this under doctors supervision, I did this and manged to get off of insulin (aka medical diagnosed honeymoon where the pancreas is able to make a little insulin enough that you can stay off insulin for a while so long as you stay strict with your diet) I broke the rules and was able to find this out for myself doing a program through the church known as diabetic health clinic and a documentary called simply raw but I adapted the juice fast to a very low carb version of it and start consuming coconut oil in my diet toward the end. But I also have faith and trust in God with much prayer which is who I thank first for helping me make the nessary changes needed. Don't forget Lemon and lime juice as part of alkalising the body too.
I love my Noodle almost forgot to cover hypos you need a little high carb back-up juices in the beginning but as you adapt you wont need them nearly as much.
Esther Barnett-Krause Thanks so much. I appreciate it. I believe God too and I have prayed about diabetes getting healed. Keep trusting God, no matter what! He actually told me that healing WILL take place, I don't know when God knows. I praise God and now I will add you in my prayers as well!
@Bogdan - Absolutely correct. Type 2's might be able to eliminate all insulin supplements, but type 1's require a basal insulin dose in order to deal with metabolized proteins and amino acids. For me, my basal insulin level is now about 16 units a day (on an insulin pump with constant glucose monitoring)
@@JimSparrowYYCRealEstate question: Were a type one to get into a feast fasting cycle (under doctor supervision at first of course) of say... One day feasting (with Berg style keto) two days fasting ... Could they potentially safely be insulin free ²/3 of the time? Perhaps on off instead for ¹/2 the time? Or is this just a crazy idea lol
+Lukkas Suhn A T1D can certainly fast 24, 36, or 48hrs + as long as they have calculated accurate BASAL insulin levels that don't assume eating any meals (I normally eat between 5-6pm so I program a higher basal insulin rate prior to / during mealtime). Any extra insulin T1D'a take (Bolus'es) are generally done just prior to eating food throughout the day. Since starting LCHF and then Keto 6 weeks ago, I've reduced my total daily insulin needed to about 18 units. Only 2 of those 18 units are "bolus". Any well controlled type 1 can do extended fasts as long as they watch their glucose and keep hydrated. NOTE: everyone should be aware of their electrolytes (especially potassium and sodium). I'm currently doing a 42 hour fast (started 6pm yesterday and don't plan on eating until at least noon tomorrow). Having been diabetic most of my life, I don't require medical supervision. I have an insulin pump to adjust basal dosage and a CGM for blood sugars every 5 minutes.
Dr Berg, I just received my Ketone blood monitoring system. I made sure it calibrated correctly. I am a registered nurse, overweight and have been on the leto diet for approx 3 weeks. I'm doing great, losing weight, not hungry and have energy to workout at the gym 3 times a week and walk 1.5 miles a day. That being said, my ketone level is 16. I saw your video. Should I increase my carbs or stick to the OMAD and intermittent fasting (16/8)?
Ok I have question any help is good. I started keto this month got my first urine test kit today both tests are showing max on the color chart deep dark purple 16 mmol. I fast about 22-23 hours a day, did one test in fast and then an hour after my meal. I've never had any issues with diabetes or insulin and have no negative symptoms now, just sleeping less but I heard that's normal on keto. Should I be worried about my off the chart mmol if I'm not diabetic or having issues?
@@lostinspace613 Yes they did, I switched to a blind test and average about 1.5 mmol now. I'll be a year into keto in Nov and no regrets it's normal to be high when your first starting becaus the excess storage of fat being converted. It'll lower as you lose it..
Dr Berg: Myself and 2 friends of mine are always over 10 (purple color) on the ketogenic diet and we aren't diabetic at all... Is this the cause for extreme fatigue or other?
Gloria, are you using urine strips? if so, these readings can be VERY inaccurate. I am often in danger zone for ketone readings when using the piss strips but its just excess ketones i am urinating out.
Ryan: Yes I am; however, Dr Berg was referring to the urine strips as on the image he provided in his presentation. You're probably right (thanks for your response) 🙂... but I'd really appreciate it if Dr Berg could respond to this dilemma, as I'm not the only person getting these results without being diabetic!!!
Thank you for this. I keep wondering about it, especially when I had a friend post about her child's ketones. It makes sense now, as she is a Type I diabetic
Dr Berg, I really love your content! The way you deliver the information is simply amazing! As a woman in her twenties, with quite fast metabolism, I actually don’t know if the keto diet + IM wouldn’t make me lose more weight? I’m currently at about 18% body fat (46kg, 158cm) and I’ve been eating a LOT (a little over 2000kcal every day), following a workout plan with a focus on compound exercises, heavy weights and low reps and it is still incredibly hard for me to put on weight. I’m afraid keto and IM, despite their health benefits, will make me lose more body fat which would anyway be unhealthy?
Dr. Berg I’m not diabetic, I’ve been fasting and only having electrolytes, my glucose was 89 and ketones were 80 but the doctor said it was normal, what does that mean?
Hi. I have interesting situation. So for now I'm in ketosis for 1.5 month, and I started periodic fasting. Last week was the second week of 2-3 days fasting, and in this week I fast 2 days and ate late dinner, had ketones at level around 8 mmol/l then 3 days of fasting and I was at 16 mmol/l range which scared me if this is danger for me. I learned that it is starvation ketoacidosis, the proteins I guess have been broken, I never been diagnosed with diabetics btw. Now, is this a dangerous situation? Could you please make a video about it?
Dr. BERG or anyone who would know. Should I go to the hospital. I am scared with everything I am reading. I have not been diagnosed with diabetes but I have been doing keto for one week now as well as intermittent fasting. I just checked my ketones today for the first time and the strip is dark purple which shows large amounts at 16 mmol/l. From everything I have seen this is very dangerous and I could go into ketoacidosis. But I'm not diabetic. Help!
I do 3-day fasts on a regular basis, and my continuous ketone monitor shows that my ketones go above 8 - it cannot even measure it anymore. I don't have diabetes, and I haven't felt any adverse effects. Does it mean it is okay, or should I have it checked?
Hi Dr. Berg, Is it reasonable to consider that my morning blood glucose level of 72 and ketone level of 7.1 is actually an appropriate response of my body during fasting (at this point I am 5 days in and consuming some fat because I don't have a lot of body fat to lose.)? Thank you
When am i getting certificate and access to other products which mentioned in Keto + IF course as i have done with my 30 day trial period. i have also mailed the support.. still waiting for reply
What is the scale of your ketone levels? I am typically at 4mmol/dl and from time to time go up to 8 or above 8 but not to 16. I was hoping this video would give a healthy range to aim for.
So I'm in my second week of Keto diet. I feel like only within the first two to three days of starting ketosis my Ketone levels are perfect. After like the third or fourth day it goes up too late 8 on my urine test. I'm not type 1 diabetic. Should I be taking potassium citrate? To reduce my acidity
I follow you sir. did keto diet for 10 days wanted to continue. i did with intermettient fasting . done urine test in hospital i got 10 mgdl normal is 0.5 now due to keto diet i end up having diebetic situation not confirm but google says this
I got the sticks at first and for about a month it's constantly deep dark purple. I got worried so got the blood meter yesterday - turns out I'm actually at 3.8 mmol. 5.1 mmol after a 16 hr fast. Chances are you are just expelling excess amount of ketones through your urine! Those sticks are super unreliable.
Never ever use urine sticks to test for ketones or glucose - completely unreliable. Your bladder is holding urine for often 8-12 hours, and constantly having ketone and sugar concentrations increased when you don't void. In the old days us type 1 diabetics had no other choice but urinalysis - today, anyone who uses these might just as well play spin the wheel.
Ye my ketones right now at this moment are on 22.3 and I’m not going to the hospital or the doctors I’m just drinking water my arms and leg muscles are killing me my life is perfect. (BTW, I’m a type 1 diabetic)
I'm freaking out right now because I just took a urine test and the color on the stick for ketones is dark brown which is literally not even on the chart. I had no idea what I was doing..drinking hot chocolate so much, eating so many sweets. I have pretty much all the signs of diabetes..blurry vision, frequent urination at night..been having these symptoms for years. Now, I'm freaking out seeing on the internet that high ketones can lead to coma and death. My God, I hope this is reversible. Jesus please.🙏😭
I was negative on ketones a month ago but changed my diet from eating out every night to cooking at home. I eat pretty healthy and now even healthier without eating out. Ketones at 1+ now. is that good or bad? all other blood work and urine is fine.
I tested my ketones this morning and I’m in my 3rd week of nutritional ketosis my ketones r at 4.5 and my glucose was 94. These levels that I got r with IF. R these levels ok?
I’m a type 2 diabetic that just had diabetic ketoacidosis about a week and a half ago I just started the keto diet barely under a week ago and my ketones are showing somewhere between 4 and 8 on a urine test but my blood sugar are running between 130 and 180 it was over 300 last week but I am still a little worried
What are the units for this please? I just got my test results after 2 months following your healthy keto and my values are 18.2 mg/dl. Should I be worried?
what about who says when your ketones lvl above 3.0 then you are in starvation mood and you gonna hurt your metabolism? i hope i find an answer for this question cuz im always above 3.5 before my first meal.
Ok I have been fasting 12 hr a day for a month and most the time I have no ketone till I eat... today a month in I am producing hi ketone and I have fasted 14 hrs. Whats up?
Hi Dr Berg, thank you for your video. I have been doing this diet for one week and have lost about 5 pounds or so. I just started testing my ketones yesterday using test strips, and my ketones are coming up consistently between 8 and 16. I am pretty sure I am not diabetic - I have had my sugar tested many times throughout my life. I am currently nursing, I don't know if this may have anything to do with it? I have started upping my carbs a bit to see if this makes a difference, do you have any advice?
Me too. I just got tested and got ketones at 15!!! I'm pretty sure I'm not diabetic either. My glucose actually went down from my previous blood test. I eat low carbs, fast for 12-16 hours per day and exercise 2-3 days a week.
I think if you are going to use a 1-10 scale then you should talk about what your reference is? Is it a pee test? is it a blood test? what is your unit of measurement?
I just did 2 back-to-back Keto-Mojo readings and got the "H i" error both times meaning higher than 8. I feel very strange/not so good. Been on a therapeutic keto diet for 2+ months and never got above 6s.
If you are Type 2 Diabetic you can bring yourself to the state of Diabetic Ketoacidosis. This video completely ignores research and underestimates the impact of Stress, Trauma and Infection. If you pee more than usual, feel thirst, feel nauseated or vomit, as diabetic, check your sugars and ketones using home kit if you have one ( sugars over 11.mmol/L and ketones over 3mmol/L definitely indicate DKA). Also, traumatic events such as rape, death in family, and other stressful circumstances may evoke an episode of DKA. Listen to your body and always investigate new symptoms.
No need to harm yourself with keto. It is just a matter of calories in, calories out. Following a structured and diverse diet like the Agoge diet helps a great deal though.
The more you spam and shame keto, the more obvious it gets that this is just a marketing gimmick, and not a genuine comment from someone who tried the agoge diet.
No it’s not… calories from different food sources causes different bio mechanisms… i would agree that by doing keto u monitor your food intake as well… keto does not mean u pile up on fats n protein indiscriminately…

I do not argue over the word of god and I most certainly don't have to argue with demons. I already have the victory.

Non-diabetic and had 8+ ketones on urine test today (those tests are somewhat inexact). Somewhat nervous.
Me too, never tested that high before this morning.
@@JamesPawson same on this. I did grab that slimfast keto strips just to test and it went by ranges. I don't think I trust these. I was a 'solid' on the next to last range which was 8 but the last color was 16
@@lostinspace613did you find out why? How did you lower your levels?
I am a non insulin dependent diabetic doing keto and have been hospitalized 3 times for euglycemic (with normal blood sugars) keto acidosis. It may not be as rare as Dr Berg claims. Watch your key-tones .
Currently My ketone blood levels are at 3.9. it’s never been that high in 2 years of being on keto so I’m excited 🤗
I ran to kitchen and had bread and sugar. Omg I thought I was dying yet I didn't have any symptoms of anything.
Completely unrelated: Dr. Berg I've been watching your earlier vids and it doesn't look like your aging a bit!
Love Lee he is constantly putting out content and runs a practice and has a product line and looks just fantastic given his age and stress levels!
I disagree. Just 2 years ago Dr. Berg looked very youthful, he is starting to look very haggard in my opinion.
*you're*
Norm Bolduc naaahhh she means his owning his age. Lol
(Didn't give me any medicine instructions)
When I got home my B.S. was still 6.9 so I took 10 mg of Glyburide To help my pancreas produce more insulin, then went to bed.
You are the best Dr. Berg!! You always have a great explanation to all of my questions!
Needed this today. Freaked out over 4.0 readings all week whew!
Thanks
Oh my god thank you for a clear explanation. Spent a while trying to find a straight answer like this.
Dr. Berg, wish you had mentioned the units if measurements you used on your video
Adding HIIT is powerful in my opinion, I'll fast for 2 days and then do HIIT then eat.. That definitely kick starts keto fat burn
I hit the dark purple today ended up in hospital and I ain't a diabetic doc. Sick as a dog
I cannot buy too much of Oatmeal. Same for Dr.E he cannot make too much of fasting videos. i love this topic.
Checked ketones via urine today 5 days in and im at 8-16 range for ketones. I am not diabetic so do i need to worry?
I've started keto diet recently and urine keto stripes always show +++ to ++++ (generally 7+ ) , but my blood sugar level is 4mmol, which is good. Should I be panicing about very high level of ketones or not? It stresses me out. No diabetes AFAIK.
I have had my ketones upto 7.2 but mostly they hover around 1 - 3. I am type 1 diabetic so all is good:) I remember going to hospital a few yrs back before i went on keto and my ketones were upto 1.... the Doctor freaked out telling me how dangerous that is :) :) :)
I wonder what he would say if he knew my average was now above 1 ?
I just got a blood test that said my ketones are 15 mg/dl and I'm not diabetic.. just started keto diet in March 2021
I'm type 1 diabetic but do a version of alkaline ketogenic diet and achieve ketosis within normal levels of blood sugar.
Esther Barnett-Krause
Interesting.
Can you explain how to safely do that?
T1D here too.
Esther Barnett-Krause
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
I believe God too and I have prayed about diabetes getting healed. Keep trusting God, no matter what! He actually told me that healing WILL take place, I don't know when God knows. I praise God and now I will add you in my prayers as well!
In diabetes type 1 you are NOT 0 insulin, it can be very low but not 0, ketoacidosis can also occur in type 2 diabetes
@@JimSparrowYYCRealEstate question:
Were a type one to get into a feast fasting cycle (under doctor supervision at first of course) of say... One day feasting (with Berg style keto) two days fasting ...
Could they potentially safely be insulin free ²/3 of the time?
Perhaps on off instead for ¹/2 the time?
Or is this just a crazy idea lol
+Lukkas Suhn
A T1D can certainly fast 24, 36, or 48hrs + as long as they have calculated accurate BASAL insulin levels that don't assume eating any meals (I normally eat between 5-6pm so I program a higher basal insulin rate prior to / during mealtime).
Did it matter?
Ok I have question any help is good. I started keto this month got my first urine test kit today both tests are showing max on the color chart deep dark purple 16 mmol. I fast about 22-23 hours a day, did one test in fast and then an hour after my meal. I've never had any issues with diabetes or insulin and have no negative symptoms now, just sleeping less but I heard that's normal on keto. Should I be worried about my off the chart mmol if I'm not diabetic or having issues?
Same thing for me. About to finish week 4. Did things change for you? I see you posted months ago
Same here. Wish he'd answer this.

I'm a type 2 and I'm and I'm 1.5! I've been freaking out bc I thought this was dangerous!!? It says to call the Dr on my Ketone panflet
Help!
This was using a urine test if that helps
I do 3-day fasts on a regular basis, and my continuous ketone monitor shows that my ketones go above 8 - it cannot even measure it anymore. I don't have diabetes, and I haven't felt any adverse effects. Does it mean it is okay, or should I have it checked?
Hi Dr. Berg, Is it reasonable to consider that my morning blood glucose level of 72 and ketone level of 7.1 is actually an appropriate response of my body during fasting (at this point I am 5 days in and consuming some fat because I don't have a lot of body fat to lose.)? Thank you
Your fine. 8 days into a fast and my ketones are 7.2 and glucose is 64.
I’ve been at level 8 for 4 months, is that bad?
Josh Cavaleri I’m fluctuating at 8-4 mmol/l too I was wondering if the same
I'm at 8 after a werk and I'm not diabetic, is that bad?
High score...what does that mean? Is it bad? Did I break it? 😂
Beefahoy Billybob I see what you did there 😉

Just shared with my husband. His were very high, 20. He is insulin resistant but not a DM 1.

I'm also doing intermittent fasting. The first week I felt kind of funny but I seem to be feeling fine this week so far
@@KaylaComb Hi Keisha did u ever get ur answer to this?
I am diabetic type 2 and had ketoacidosis twice.
I follow you sir. did keto diet for 10 days wanted to continue. i did with intermettient fasting . done urine test in hospital i got 10 mgdl normal is 0.5 now due to keto diet i end up having diebetic situation not confirm but google says this
My keto sticks says I’ve got 8-16 mmol. Is that bad? What should I do? I’m not diabetic but I had hypoglycaemia.
My ketones level is 40. The doctors keep telling me my glucose and A1c is normal....but I keep feeling horrible. No one can give me answers.
So Dr Berg if you were type I would you still do intermittent fasting Keto or look at alternatives?
Ye my ketones right now at this moment are on 22.3 and I’m not going to the hospital or the doctors I’m just drinking water my arms and leg muscles are killing me my life is perfect. (BTW, I’m a type 1 diabetic)
Had a urinalysis today and my ketones are at a 15 and my blood glucose was at a 92. 😳
How are you now
I was negative on ketones a month ago but changed my diet from eating out every night to cooking at home.
So if I have reactive hypoglycemia i would say I make too much insulin so I don’t need to worry about this
I’m a type 2 diabetic that just had diabetic ketoacidosis about a week and a half ago I just started the keto diet barely under a week ago and my ketones are showing somewhere between 4 and 8 on a urine test but my blood sugar are running between 130 and 180 it was over 300 last week but I am still a little worried
any good ketone meter you can recommend, please?
What are the units for this please? I just got my test results after 2 months following your healthy keto and my values are 18.2 mg/dl. Should I be worried?
18 blood ketones level on a non-diabetic person, what can be the reason for that?
what about who says when your ketones lvl above 3.0 then you are in starvation mood and you gonna hurt your metabolism?
i hope i find an answer for this question cuz im always above 3.5 before my first meal.
is he measuring in mmol/L or mg/dL?
mmol/L
Ok I have been fasting 12 hr a day for a month and most the time I have no ketone till I eat... today a month in I am producing hi ketone and I have fasted 14 hrs. Whats up?
I need these numbers in mg/dl
Hi Dr Berg, thank you for your video. I have been doing this diet for one week and have lost about 5 pounds or so. I just started testing my ketones yesterday using test strips, and my ketones are coming up consistently between 8 and 16. I am pretty sure I am not diabetic - I have had my sugar tested many times throughout my life. I am currently nursing, I don't know if this may have anything to do with it? I have started upping my carbs a bit to see if this makes a difference, do you have any advice?
Did that help?
Me too. I just got tested and got ketones at 15!!! I'm pretty sure I'm not diabetic either. My glucose actually went down from my previous blood test. I eat low carbs, fast for 12-16 hours per day and exercise 2-3 days a week.
I was burning ketones when I had diabetes during pregnancy.
I think if you are going to use a 1-10 scale then you should talk about what your reference is? Is it a pee test? is it a blood test? what is your unit of measurement?
Blood test.
Eric Berg is the Best. So many Fake health "experts", fitness gurus. The only one i trust is Berg.
what's the best way to test your keytones to see where you're at on the scale?
I just did 2 back-to-back Keto-Mojo readings and got the "H i" error both times meaning higher than 8. I feel very strange/not so good. Been on a therapeutic keto diet for 2+ months and never got above 6s.
10 what? What are the units?
I'm testing using urine strips in mg/dl ?!
FInallly I found the answer Thanks Dr.Berg

Thank you for speaking to this.
No problem! Thank you for watching.
Years ago I had a physician assistant (surgeon) just examining me and he said "Oh you're a ketone maker". What does that mean?
Where is best range to loosing weight?
So im about to break my 5 days water fasting! Its okay if I break it with vegetable broth with tofu and apple cider vinegar , ( at the end I eat only the broth)or better just eat some steamed vegetables????
I have found Fiji water helps bring the body more alkaline.
if you want alkaline water buy ionized one .... its brutal
dodo dodes What's it called?
ionized water... its everywhere...
chris nada the body is already mostly alkaline that’s why Dr Berg recommends acv and lemon drink
I have a Kangen water machine and I rarely make 9.5 alkaline water nowadays. I'm mainly at 8.0 which is slightly above what normal spring water like Fiji is
I don’t appear to go higher than .5 even when I fast. 🧐
