As with most things in life, we can't control our motivation levels, but how we choose to react to adversity is soley up to us. I have a few chronic health conditions and spent a long time hiding behind that excuse. But staying stagnant only fuels the flame. As you said, its about discipline and making self improvement habitual rather than something we only work on when we feel up to it. Remember, the only easy day was yesterday.
Thanks man! I appreciate that you keep it real. As a 27 year veteran Fire Lieutenant at 55 years old more often than not I don’t feel super excited to get after it. Thanks sharing your perspective- glad to know I’ll not the only one. At the end of the day, you’re right it’s Your choice I always say “You’re either going after what you want or making excuses for why your not going anywhere”
I hear this, Pat. I've had problems with a chronic illness over the past year that often leaves me fatigued and unable to do physical tasks. It was very demotivating to go from a healthy young guy to barely being able to clean the house or take a nice long walk. What sucks is just what you said, that the body is still pretty much fine, but the control center has some problems, faulty wiring I guess you could say. I've been pushing myself to increase my workouts bit by bit. Even something as simple as getting on an elliptical machine and putting the resistance up one setting higher than last time goes a long way. You have to see progress and make sure you're always doing whatever you can or else you'll feel sorry for yourself and get stuck in a spiral. I can't do as much physical stuff, but that means I can still study, read books, and work on some music. There's always another avenue to explore. Glad to hear you're still getting after it and I wish you well.
Thanks Mo… I’m somewhat stuck a bit further down that spiral myself. Your words make me feel like I can make a better effort to get back to it. It’s never going to be any easier or better than now….. Best brother ~. 🙏
@@miguelcantu5146 Damn right brother. The only moment that matters is the present one. And if you keep putting one foot in front of the other, then it doesn't matter where you started or where you end up, because you never gave up. Thats the most hardcore thing there is. Be well brother
Yeah - totally understand, as an older person - I get it - been through huge injuries over the years and yeah, if I didnt do what I was supposed to do because i didnt feel like it - like training, I`d never get anything done - and thats when I train - when I dont feel like it - I get over it sooner than later - but man - sometimes - I gotta dig deep.
Pat, I appreciate you sharing this. You are a hero and many of us are encouraged by. Great question by the viewer with an even better response. Thanks and may all have an awesome day!
After everything in life(military, injuries, etc.) I got put down by GBS because of Covid. After 31 days in the hospital I came home with a new accessory, a wheelchair. This stiff is no joke. I still have zero feeling. Just all nerve stuff. And I do have an issue getting motivated or being around people. Or just having to burden my wife with having to get the wheelchair in and out. It sucks. But I'm pushing. And starting to get out more. But definitely mentally challenging
The indiscretions of our youth follow us through time. Feel the same way, Dennis Leary has a tune” I’m an asshole” in it he says “Life Sucks get a fucking helmet”. Basically anyone who had been an athlete, or in the military carries pain, scars, tears, injuries, etc. builds character and tears you down. Your not alone Brother, 59 and have been in pain most of my adult life, to stubborn to give up. I admire and respect you for your service, honesty and bluntness. Stay strong and keep fighting. Corny and cliched but “ Do Not Go Gentle into That Dark Night”!🇺🇸
Great message...veteran here with injuries and aches and pains. It's hard to get going all the time....but you just have to push through it. Pat, I make a product for firearms and would love your input on it. Is there a way to get one to you?

Pat, please look into the carnivore diet and stop drinking alcohol. Give it a try and see feel the difference in your physical and mental health. Please sir!

The hardest part is showing up. Once you get going on anything you can smash anything you put your mind to.
Everyone needs a dude like Pat in their life.

I love Les Stroud! What an inspiration. I always wanted to do what he did.

Live like no one else now, so you can live like no one else later.

Thanks Pat, I'm older than you and surely not so fit, we all have bad moments in life, come on Coach, and have a nice Sunday!
Tell yourself, "This has to get done, one way or another.", then hold yourself to that.
Inspired - thank you!
Well said!
Thanks Pat Mac. You’re a real motivator. Straight to the point no frills.
Mac is the Team Leader we all need. Great shirt! Black Sabbath 4 life.
Had alot going on in life the past few months. It was nice to hear it again. Just keep swimming.
Thank you
Great advice, thank you!
Growth and comfort rarely coexist. Simple philosophy and 100% true.
I gotta go get some and I damn sure don’t feel like it. Thanks Pat, time to get off my ass and move!
Let discipline carry you. Know your goals, be unyielding in your pursuit of them. No longer will mood be the guideline at that point.
The only way to get over the pain is to lean into it.
True it's mind set. Your mind playing tricks on you. It happens to all of us every day. You have to just do something every rep count's.
