The unofficial sequel to 'Purple Rain' (1984). The Kid is now club owner and rival to Morris (Morris Day) who get into a fight for the Glam Slam Nightclub.
In the earliest version of Graffiti Bridge Prince was to play a character named Camille. Madonna (who Prince wanted to play a character named Ruthie Washington) made it quite clear she didn't want anything to do with Graffiti bridge. During their meeting madonna told a flabbergasted Prince that he was stupid and referred to his script as a piece of shi*"
Kim Basinger ended up in a relationship with Prince and the two of them penned an early version of Graffiti Bridge. It combined the former character 'Angel' played by Kim Basinger and "Electra" planned for Jill Jones into one, named "Aura" but now to be played by Ingrid Chavez.
The early versions of the film were not supposed to be connected to Purple Rain in any way. However, once prince was approved for financing Warner Bros began to have misgivings about the films viability. Approval for financing was partially based on Kim Basinger's involvement in the production. Kim Basinger was widely known to have been directing Graffiti Bridge. However, around January of 1990 Kim & Prince had a falling out. She removed herself from the Minneapolis based production. Prince tapped his current manager and director of Purple Rain but Albert Magnoli declined and then resigned.
