    Matt, the fact that you are there means something. If Coach didn’t see the ability in you, he wouldn’t want you on the team to begin with. There is no need to get dismayed about not getting any playing time. You are a good player, surrounded by great players, it is all an opportunity to grow. You can absolutely be learning and growing standing on the sidelines. You can see things your teammates can’t, during a match. Pick their brains, tell them what you see and they can tell you what they are seeing. The increased potential is there, so do everything you mentally and physically can to stay engaged hard and seize the open space in front of you, whatever roll you are given or asked to help with. If you’re given a clipboard to hold, leave friction marks in it by the time the weekend is over. Super excited to continue to follow you my guy.

    You inspired me to start playing tournament paintball. I was down at my lowest, felt no motivation to go on in life, didnt feel like going to work, nothing. I started with tournament paintball, now i always wait for the next day of practise, the next tournament. Paintball is my passion now, i started to work out and got my motivation back, even off the field. thank you mat! The statement at the end is really huge, thats the spirit of an professional athlete, your time will come!

      Did you have friends that played already? I haven't played in like 15 years but found my old DM4 and autococker so decided to look up some info on the state of the game. Now I'm getting the itch to go out and play again. But speedball has always been more fun to me than playing in the woods. I just don't know anyone else who plays

      @@brimmed use the internet! look for teams or fields around you and contact them. im living in germany where paintball is very small but i just searched for the nearest tournament field, called them and they gave me phone numbers from various teams. i joined their practise and thats how it started.

    Deadset Matty with how your content goes, if people are serious about growing the sport, they should be getting you and others in front of ESPN etc. You're actually taking the time to explain the game and tell the people what it's really like. Go Growl. Had a similar situation with myself at my last event, was worried I wouldn't get play time on Sunday. Ended up getting on most of the game and hitting the buzzer in OT after a sick two pack.

    I know you already know this, but it always bears repeating: lack of skill does not equal lack of playing time. This is why ROTY is an award in every major sport in the world. You're not gonna step in and be a gamechanger or the new heart of the franchise. You're green and you need to get muddied up a little to understand the grit that seasoned pros play with. Been watching your videos for a few years now and I have no doubt you will be a pro soon. You work your ass off, you are always open to advice, you don't take yourself too seriously and you're a nice guy who loves paintball. You're not playing for GG cuz of your channel or your speed, you're with them because you play with heart and love the game and treat people well. What more could you ask from someone?

    • @MattTheGymRat
      @MattTheGymRat  3 місяці тому +1

      That means alot. Your point of having a ROTY makes alot of sense. I'm hopeful to keep growing around these guys and become able to apply that growth on the field.

      @SirBilliamCypher 3 місяці тому +1

      @@MattTheGymRat You got this man! You're definitely my favorite player to watch you play with so much heart and also have so much fun. Also, I know being a competitor means you are always looking for things to work on, but consider this: Growl never would have had you play for them if they didn't completely trust that they could give you a spin and you would ball out. Anyone that plays for a team knows that the starting 5/8 have a synergy and you don't want to mess with that if it's working. The best players to ever play prove they are great in every aspect, whether it be in the pits, going over game plans, wiping players down, giving them motivation or space depending on what they want. Just like any sport every single little bit you do to help your team, also helps you.

    On different note.
    As someone who grew up playing competitive soccer, I have spent plenty of time on the bench. one of the worst feelings is sitting on the bench an entire season and only being put in a couple times throughout the whole year. Unfortunately, I don't really have any advice for you here. I just thought I'd share my experience here to let you know there are others out here who understand the feelings you're going through all so well.
    When my team went on to win the state tournament, I heavily questioned whether or not I even wanted the ring because I didn't feel like I had done anything to earn it. To this day (8 years later), I still question if getting a ring was the right decision. But, you have to remember one thing in particular. While you may not be on the field, you act as the opponent during practice. Iron sharpens iron. If you weren't an amazing player, then them practicing against you would be close to meaningless. At the end of the day, you may not have been the player on the field, but you are a huge reason as to why they are performing as well as they are. Without you pushing them to get better, they never would have made it past that round 1 matchup.

    I know it is common practice, but having players come out and play no points is a dogshit take by people who are all wrong. You are damaging your team in the long run by alienating your players and robbing them of valuable tournament experience. I know you respect your coach and I know he's coaching semi-pro, but I think he's wrong and I aim to prove that. In fact, I started a team for that and a number of other reasons. The status quo and conventional thinking are all wrong. Don't belive me? Keep an eye on the Silly Bananas playing in the WCPPL.
