  • While we know the menopause can bring on many physical symptoms, what often surprises women is that their leg problems could be one of these symptoms.
    So this week on A.Vogel Talks Menopause Eileen thought she would talk about the four main reasons you can experience leg problems during menopause, such as pain, cramps, swelling, varicose veins and restless legs and recommend ways to help your legs.

    I don't get restless legs, but I get "charlye horses" first thing in the morning when I stretch out before I even feel awake.
    The other main leg symptoms is feeling my legs are really heavy, tight and swollen (fluid retention).
    Achy tired legs... cramping during the first few reps of an exercise.
    Now, if all these problems are due to low oestrogen (I exercise daily, including yoga and Pilates, have good posture, eat well, do stress reduction etc),
    surely oestrogen supplementation should be considered.

    • @AvogelCoUk
      @AvogelCoUk  2 роки тому +1

      It could well be connected, a sudden hormonal shift triggering a period can use up lots of magnesium and low magnesium can quickly affect muscle function! Also, just be aware that you can get a big dip in iron levels with a period so you may find a gentle iron tonic such as Floradix can be helpful.

    Just came across your videos, and you are very soothing, and the information is wonderful 🙏🏻
    My question is, does menopause cause nerve issues?
    I’m 54 yrs old, and, my last period was around 47, but, the last three years have been a living hell, as I’ve struggled with SEVERE fatigue, vertigo and now, electric shocks behind my knee( mainly left) MRI shows bulging disc and arthritis, but, no compression in the nerve, so, I’m thinking...menopause?!!

    • @AvogelCoUk
      @AvogelCoUk  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Maria
      Thank you for your kind comments!
      Yes, falling oestrogen can affect nerve function; and can also be due to low magnesium and/or Essential Fatty Acids. You may find a magnesium supplement, approx 200mg twice a day and either a fish oil or flaxseed oil supplement could be of benefit. However, other health issues could be a factor such as low vitamin B12 so maybe ask your doctor to test for this if they haven't already done so.
      Acupuncture may also help here so is worth looking into.

      I’ve been on 400mg of magnesium for about two years already, I also take an omega 3 supplement, there has been no change.

All I can suggest is that if you wish to try it do make sure that it is from a reputable company and that you are aware of any potential side effects. Black Seed oil does seem to have plenty of benefits, again, with a lot of these supplements it would be a case of trying them for several months to see if they would be of any benefit for you

    Could all this be menopause? She’s done so many tests and everything comes out good

      @AvogelCoUk  Рік тому +1

      Hi Lordona
      Periods coming back are really common and often indicate that the hormonal balance has risen again triggering periods etc. However, it is still wise for your mother to get this checked by her doctor just to make sure that there are no other issues such as fibroids or a prolapse.

    • @AvogelCoUk
      @AvogelCoUk  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jo
      I would suggest the Devils Claw for the hip pain. Tingles and restless legs are often caused by low magnesium so you could also take a supplement, approx 200mg twice a day. However, if the tingling is ongoing then it is important to get it checked by your doctor. Other health issues such as low vitamin D, low vitamin B12 and diabetes can also be a factor so your doctor can test for these just to rule them out.

      Burning feet can often indicate low B5 and a possible build up of uric acid (do you get joint pains at all?), however, it is really important to get this checked out by your doctor as other health issues such as diabetes could be a factor.

      @@AvogelCoUk Yes, I'm familiar with the diabetes possibility. I made an appointment with a new doctor but can't be seen for at least 3 weeks.
      The burning toe is only on one spot on the toe. It's on the biggest toe, right below the cuticle. I initially thought it was caused by nail fungal infection given to me by a nail salon, which has been there for years. But that is where the burn stops, except when I place too much pressure on the heel, wherein I get that burn you get when you've walked in heels all day. The toe issue though, is at least a year long, and comes on for days at a time and takes a few days off. The pin pricks in legs started recently, and strangely came at a time where I began seeing hormonal things going on, such as weight gain, depression, cravings for sugar, urinary issues, lightheadedness, shortness of breath here and there, hot flashes, etc. It is strange how I also had it a year ago for a few days and it sparked my OCD/Anxiety, and then randomly went away.

      Google what foods can alter your gout!!! There's many like meat beer trans fats saturated fat
      Fructose on certain fruits too!! Please research and modify your diet
      I truly recommend you alkalizing your body by eating more citric foods and greens like
      Water with lemon every morning and or pineapple celery lemmon juice and ginger in the blender with little iced water will help you a lot

      Hi Sharlyne
      Hot feet is often caused by low vitamin B2 so you may find a high strength vitamin B Complex can be of benefit. I would also recommend a couple of cups of nettle tea a day and have a short brisk walk in the evening to help your circulation. Dehydration can also be a factor so remember to drink plenty of plain water every day!
