While this technique might be good if you've had a bad couple of weeks and want to bump up your rating, I wouldn't recommend this to new drivers. It's going to artificially inflate their rating and they're going to end up in a car and potentially lobby way above their racecraft ability. They're going to end up likely not enjoying the race because everyone is quicker and more importantly potentially ruin other people's race for the same reason. If someone is constantly chasing safety rating, they should look at impriving their racecraft. Like a few others, I wasnt aware the SR was active in iRacing practice! Thanks for that 👍
I'm completely new to Sim Racing. I started ACC a little over a year ago on a controller and have since advanced to an entry level wheel and pedals. That said, I stayed in game practicing, running career mode and championships etc., to learn all I could about racing GT3's-4's, all the while increasing my SA, along with the rest of it. When I decided to go online, I knew better than to go to public servers. Instead, I found a league that gives serious rookies a chance to race and learn. In that, I have been able to maintain a good SA....so far.😆 Didn't mean to go so long but, thought a new racers point of view and approach might give a different perspective. 'Hope the vacation was good Dave and great stuff as always.'👍
Nice video, needs to be said more! I was gonna do a video like this for the casuals as now I am a silver rank casual slow racer its funny to see super quick Gold drivers with a Bronze 0 safety rank lol. Reminder though, as you mention it a bit in the video, that in LMU the skill aspect is actually called Driver Rank. And the Safety one is just Safety Rank. So its not DR you're increasing but the SR.
I´m racing on iracing for 9 months now, road and oval races. In the Road Races, i tried to get as much irating as possible, and did the opposite in the oval races, so i tried to earn as much sr as possible to get the A-Licence. Now, i got the A-licences in both categories, BUT: My Irating on road is 1750, in oval-races appr. 900. Now it is very very hard to raise my irating on ovals, too many wrecks and morons in every race. So i think it is better to raise irating first, it is easier to get Safety-Rating with gentle opponents. Sorry for my bad english 🙂
what i have found in the ovals is if you hang back but stay in touch you will get double green. Ovals seem to be foot to the floor, hang on, and stay out of trouble. Let everyone else do the work for you
I think it might be easier early on for oval races but harder earlier on in road races. I think the racing on roads / circuits gets more predictable the higher the standard of driver
@@braveheart4603 thats true, but ovals do seem to be pretty consistent at every level. one person makes a mistake and wipes out half the field and there is a free 10 places
LOL Davey you gotta update your video upload preset on youtube since it still says that the game you're playing is iRacing(2008) 😜 I hope this video finds a lot of new racers, just like the previous ones of you regarding safe driving and what to be aware of. I've learned all this good stuff by you and it DEFINITELY helped in gaining SR in the first and later on simultaneously IR in the second place!
This video couldn't have come at a more perfect time. After watching your video i got it in a day! Starting at B 3.19 and in 5 races I got promoted to A! After weeks of head banging i can finally say the grind is complete!
I’ve raced two, 2hr and 40min endurance races over the last two weeks and gotten 18x between them. You go into any sprint race and you have 8 on the first lap mostly due to ghost 4x. The system is I need of an overhaul. I went a half a car length around a wreck the other day and got a 4x
I would generally agree with you except for the SR system in iRacing is pretty punitive. Every IRL race driver wouldn’t be able to race if the track limits and ‘bumps’ were enforced as rigorously as in iRacing. A few ‘offs’ over a few races will take 10+ ‘perfect’ races to recover from.
You are obviously assuming that everyone is brand new to racing. That they have no experience with racing at all. I would suggest the problem with bad driving has more to do with attitude, aggression and aspirations of greatness than this system of licensing.
I get what you’re saying but it’s crazy the amount of times that I’ve tried to drive as safely as possible, giving people way more room than they should need, and still gotten hit. Also, getting hit from behind by people braking too late or people rejoining the track at the worst time and place. Those situations are where most of my SR losses have come from. It’s not as simple as “race smarter”.
Sorry Dave, but starting from the back is just way too risky and IMO the best way staying out of trouble is qualifying within the Top 5, because they usually have better skills and I tend to see the carnage in the mirror, not in front and the field thins out better there as well. Did my first online race yesterday, qualified P2, finished P2 even I was a bit faster than the guy in front. Just made him nervous being close and waited for a mistake, but wasn't bad enough at the end to pass him without risk, so he won. Got a huge chunk of SR without taking any risk. Probably doesn't always work like that, but I even had no contact in the past three Forza Motorsport online races despite good fights.
Not everyone can qualify in the top 5, and can you guarantee you do every time? Imagine being bumped back to p10 when you're trying to gain safety rating in a beginner series. Carnage 😁
My problem is I also race in RL, and there is no safety rating. Ive done that since 2015. I have iRaced for 2 months and I find the draw to race SOOOOOO hard to resist 😁
If i don't qualify but still get a grid position that isn't on the back row i start from the pits. Irating sometimes takes a hit but more often than not i make it back to my car #/and or grid position.
A tip for car control. Turn off the autoblip and autolift options for a smooth car driving experience. I gained almost 2 seconds doing that and the car actually stays on the road lol. Frustrating.
I was in your race and as a casual it was a lonely one. you guys where 2:18 and below, I was 2:19-20 and every one else behind 2:24+. If it wasnt for a mistake on my part meaning I had to come back through the field after pits I'd of had a very boring race lol. Though I did enjoy the immersion of rounding a corner and seeing an LMP2 on fire haha

Wait, iRacing's practice before a race counts for safety rating? I usually push my limits pretty hard in those sessions and get several off tracks trying to find the true limits of the car and track. I always thought practice did not impact safety rating
It’s so strange I’m not sure I 100% like it I’m about a week into iracing and the game feels great easily the best sim I have tried. But I find myself letting cars go pass just so I don’t have to battle them, surly that can’t be the point of a racing game.
