I went to this game in college, James Brown was the halftime entertainer! The night before saw Boston in concert in Chapel Hill, NC, Even though the Redskins lost, me and my best friend still talk about that trip and what a great weekend it was! Thanks for the upload!
Hard to believe that one missed extra point cost the Redskins the game. The also weird stat is that in the regular season Doug Williams never won a game he started, but when he came off the bench the Redskins won their games.
When I was a kid, I hadn't even heard of the Atlanta Falcons until I watched this game. This game made me a fan, and I've been a devoted fan for the last 35 years.
As a kid I never understood how they lost this game, but upon rewatching in 2022 I can see why. The Skins were without quite a few starters, including George Rogers, Clint Didier, Mark May, Neal Olkewicz and Rich Milot. Doug Williams was starting his first NFL game in five seasons, and had nearly been traded a few weeks earlier. Daryl Grant and Joe Jacoby both left the game early due to injuries, and the kicking game was a big mess. Not a recipe for success on the road, no matter how bad the Falcons were.
Marion Campbell the “Swamp Fox” was a great player in college and the pros. Was a fantastic DL and DC but was the very definition of the “Peter principle” as a Head Coach, worst head coach (well next to Bobby Petrino) in Falcons history. This was just an awful decade for the Falcons after the 82 season Rankin Smith Jr fired Leman Bennett the then winningest coach in Falcons history after a playoff loss. Smith Jr said “the Falcons had platued” after a Wildcard playoff loss. He was wrong, it was the high water mark in the 80s because the Falcons had 9 straight losing seasons, they picked number 1 in the draft TWICE!
You might be right, on the extra point snap that Yarber couldn't even get down and tried to run or pass it or whatever the hell, after you see Yarber and Bostic running back to the sideline, Gibbs gives Yarber a pat on the back for trying, I guess, meanwhile you see Bostic swerve around Gibbs and head for the bench, body language looking like he did have an attitude. Darryl Grant used to be the long snapper years prior, wonder why they didn't give him a try....

Can"t thank you enough for this upload! Hope to see more classic Redskins games in the future!
Both teams are wearing their best uniforms
Wow! a rare time that the Redskins are wearing Red uniforms.
Gerald Riggs very underrated. Glad he got a ring.

Even stranger, Washington went on to win the super bowl a few months later.
Remember, there was a Strike that year
Hey thanks so much for this!!!

WINNING SUPER BOWL 22 THE FIRST BLACK QB

It was just before the strike. Still can't believe the Skins lost this game but at the end if the day they won the Super Bowl.
I know. They should have won this one and went 12-3

32:00--Vermeil: "Let the Polish guy take the blame."
That wouldn't fly in the PC world today.
Verne Lundquust & Dick Vermeil. Nice!
The good ole days! #HTTR
IN 1987 IT WAS TIME FOR THE NFL
TO CHANGE
Doug was later MVP of SB XXII. BTW, what happened to Dave Archer that day?
Poor Doug Williams, kept losing games as a Redskins, Until it mattered.

How many bad snaps did Jeff Bostic have in this game? If I didn't know any better I'd think he was trying to get back at the coaches for benching him.

At 2:05:00 you see one Jeff Bostic being sent in to play left tackle in the jumbo formation lls...
@@NoBullsh_t. Check out America's Game 1987. Bostic talks about that season's difficulties

Redskins look half asleep in this game.

You rarely see Walton with an arm tackle, play after play he found a way to launch full body into the ball carrier.. real life video game safety...💪💪
39:09 what the hell was Griffin doing?? They got lucky on that one..
