@@panzerjagear The Statement of Randolph Carter. Ian just re-recorded it. It is very short and very Lovecraft :) I'd recommend The Festival alongside it. In my head it sketches out who is giving the Warren Update!
@@panzerjagear I'm not sure reading too many spooky stories counts as enlightenment :). Thank Ian his narration is the best. Lovecraft's work is free online in text, too, I needed it to understand the gibbous squamous-ness of it all :)
The story is very reminiscent of "The Thing On The Doorstep", which came out earlier that same year. But I like that this story actually has the protagonist be the one trapped inside the body of a Deep One. It makes it much more viscerally horrifying.
I happened on this channel only a week ago, and already it's one of my favourites. I didn't know I needed dark fiction in my life and now I can't do without it. Fantastic narration. Fantastic stories. Thank you.
@@blu_maboo enjoy! The Silver Key stories continue Randolph Carter's story although I'd save them for later they aren't Lovecraft's best. If you want to read the Cthulhu mythos stories that inform Black Kiss, Dagon is an appetizer and The Shadow Over Innsmouth is one of my favorites. The Call of Cthulhu is related, too, and a banger :)
Nothing like a Bloch tale to conclude my workday, he can bring me to laugh and fear for my life like no other. Kuttner and Bloch together??! Now I must hear this
Gorgeous, I always get my inky-black Horror Babble cup and fill it with inky-black liquid (coffee that is) to enjoy these stories... Bring on Warren (or maybe not!).
Absolutely riveting. The abstract and the real merging, captivating and ultimately redeeming the protagonist. Beautiful story, marvelous reading. Thank you.
I’ve always wondered that myself. Not just on HorrorBabel but many other channels that have no real reason to be down-voted. I almost wonder if the system just automatically assigns a certain number of down-votes to a video after its first couple of up-votes. Like some kind of weird balancing system. It seems the only ones who will ever know are the higher-ups at UA-cam and Warren.
Indeed! Get out of my head!!! I don't comment often on anything, but I hit the comments button to make the exact same statement. Some stories are better than others, but that's only because of personal tastes. Seems no place is safe from miserable jack offs.
everyone loves you, Ian and i’m not even jealous. LOL 🌷😛 but, as we all listen to your readings, we imagine our own images and feelings and no one can take that illusion away :) 🎭
That is not dead which sleeping lies... ...and in strange aeons even death may die! Warren is coming back I tell you. They said I was mad but I'll show them hahahahahaha....er. pardon me.
Thank you Ian for your nightly tales. When I wake up late at night my brain starts up immediately. I just put on The Fire of A. and I get lost, Yar and Steve sooth my squirrel brain and I am soon sleeping again in the lost city of R'lyeh. Warmest Regards, Raven
Better put extra crunchy Warren chunks in the Horrorbabs' Research & Development department's feed trough. Their toil in fungal grottoes beneath the Delapore Manor is greatly appreciated. Glad the they are outnumbering the rats, too. The Salem Horror is like a lost Lovecraft story. Some of Kuttner's stories seem rushed but when he hits it, it's up there with the best.
That's a happy discovery, looking forward to more of these guys and all the catching up I have to do. There's nothing creepier when out on the water than seeing unidentifiable shapes in the water, until they brush up against you and the you step on...something. ...And then there's THIS, aw HELL NO!
I’d love to know how they arrived at this common theme. I’d guess it was maybe somewhat from run ins with grungy sailors. Maybe just a halarious aversion to sea life. 5 🌟z.
14:00 - It's a pity that even the old time writers often got trapped into the familiar narratives and plot devices that screenwriters today use in horror movies; the chief grievance being - namely - poor judgement and bad decisions on the part of the protagonists. 😅
It's not necessarily a plot device. Scary stories are designed to be morality plays chiefly, so having characters make mistakes is often important to the warning of the work. With that said, stories where the character's don't make any major mistakes but still get murdered or traumatized are usually scarier.
@@ezrablock3218 I was merely making a humorous observation. In reality I have come to love the work of Robert Bloch. But I do agree 100% with your statement.
You fool! Warren is dead.....dead serious about the savings you can make at Randolphs House of Dreams! Sale on now! Keep up the good work fella and stay safe!
Okay, i'm confused. The sea horror, as i believe it was called, ejected marela from its body after her own body died, according to the story. So she was left wirh out a body. So how did she suddenly come to have the body of one of these things if she was homeless, as the story goes? I don't get it.
Locals pronounce it: San Peedro. Of course, only people that live in San Pedro, California cringe every time they hear it pronounced incorrectly. Just sayin.
Warren status check complete. My day may proceed.
Dead as a doornail but oddly chatty on the phone.
Hate to be a rookie, but which story is he referencing in the intro? I’ve always wanted to listen to it
