@@DevilAndSons It's a chinese version of the bridge, not so good but enough to get started. Your video clarified a lot of it, thanks. I believe depending on the guitar intonation the tension bolt also affects the action of the strings, so the bolt should be set at different tension depending on if you have an E tuning, a C tuning and so on. Sure you said it in the video, but I missed it.

Great video!!! I got that same kit (from China) and the instructions that came with it made that bridge seem like the most complicated thing since the space shuttle. You made it not only easy to understand but to install & set up. It's now actually a very impressive little bit of engineering. Thank you very much.

Thanks Daniel. That was an absolutely great video. Inspired by other youtube channels, I bought a Cherrystone headless guitar from Amazon; the only place in UK that one can get the Steinberger kit. Whilst the overall kit is appalling, there is nothing I cannot sort out. What really worried me about the whole project was how to set the intonation with that bridge. Your video was superb at covering every question I could have had. I will begin the build after Christmas as I'm still waiting on some tools but I now feel very confident that I will be able to create a fantastic guitar with a very low action - your video was that 'missing link' I needed. Thank you very much for your time and effort and sharing your skills and knowledge. ------------------------ In case anyone reading this is interested and thinking about buying a headless kit. I have found that the routing for the two part bridge is very poor in that the general area for the chassis is routed out instead of a narrower channel with a cutout for the bridge locking mech. This means that two of the four bridge screws may not have enough wood to screw in securely leading, over time, to a catastrophic failure of the bridge fixture. I have bought a metal bracket to brace the bottom part of the chassis - I've left a comprehensive review and photos on Amazon.co.uk, under the name Leon Kowalski. Thanks a lot. I have had a Steinberger Spirit for a long time, but never figured all the details out. I usually don’t use the tremolo, but it works now, and it sure is fun. The manual they come with don’t have all the information about the way to set it up.

Is it slipping because the bridge isn't exactly set up? If the bridge is in slightly the wrong position it may not engaged properly.When it's engaged, then pulled back does the tuning remain the same? If it does then the bridge is set up correctly. In that case the actual part the clip grips may need adjusting - if it can be, I don't think it can on the model I demoed here. Somehow you'd need to make the part it grips a bit wider perhaps,maybe a thin washer glued to it may make it thicker. I'm sorry not to be of help without seeing it. My first thought though is the bridge isn't quite set up in the right place.
Hello. Im the owner of a Steinberger spirit. Im having problem keeping the tremolo arm locked, with the Allen key. It locks the tremolo arm to a certain point. The the Allen key just goes around and around..Is this natural. I would appreciate some help. Greetings.
From what I've read the thread at that part strips quite easily and a loose trem arm becomes a problem. I assume the tightness you have isn't quite enough for you. You may be able to wrap some plumbers tape (ptfe tape) around the base of the arm where it slots in to give it a tighter feel, and adjust the tightness with more tape.
Dude!!! I have been looking for a detailed video of this tremolo, that was amazing!!! I was having my doubts about getting one of these, thank you very much for doing it.. Now I still have a few questions, so pls bear with me: -About sound, this system it doesnt need to make more holes to the body so it has more wooden mass, and also the metal mass in the bridge looks bigger than a traditional trem, so, do u feel any sound difference/improvemenmt in the sustain or tone of the guitar based on only these characteristics? -Have u heard of the TransTrem II? from steinberger? this model had the capacity of tune the guitar in 2 additional tones, 1 semitone or tone up and down i believe, do u think that this thingy could be modified to allow the trem to lock additional tunings? by just moving a locker or something? have u thought about it? -How much room of tunning do u have left after locking all the strings? did it ever occured that u just reach the limit of the screw like in traditional floyd rose systems? -Does it always go back to the same note after using the trem? is it soft or hard to do so? - Does the trem's spring wears off? can anybody get replacements for that? - About the saddles, the original trem has little rollers, does the trem action produce any sound? weird clicks or scratches? - How did u cover the Overlod of music thing? with welding or just glue? or something like that? Thanks for watching and asking such interesting questions. I will try to answer them all as best I can.And also thanks for saying such nice things about my guitars. Do keep in touch on facebook and instagram too: -You do need to rout a space to fit this trem as it goes into the body, so some wood is removed. I have the view that some luthiers take which is the type of wood doesn't really make a noticable difference to the sound etc on an electric and I haven't noticed this bridge effect the sustain etc in that way. - This system is quite basic, I'm not sure how you could adujst the bridge itself to make the easily adjusted one tone as each saddle is simply held in place by pressure from thos next to it, so moving one would move them all and to alter all the strings by 1 tone the saddles would all nedd to move different amounts. Perhaps you could do something at the nut end? -You definitely reach the limit, but this can be avoided by how tight the strings are when you start tuning, so pull them as tight as possible to avoid this. - I was quite impressed with the stability of the tuning considering the system, and didn't notice it going out of tune. Tremolos can have this issue more than a fixed bridge so I assume it will need as much regular tuning as most over floating bridges. -I haven't noticed any clicks in the trem excpet when you are locking and unlocking it. -I used a two part epoxy to simply stick something over the Overlord logo.
Such an informative video. Very helpful in helping me understand my Spirit tremolo. Also, this guitar is not steam punk to my eyes but spot on for a post-apocalyptic vibe. Reminds me of some mash up between HR Geiger and the Fallout franchise. Stellar work!!!

very nice informative video, but i noticed, at 6:08 you say the tighter the tension the stiffer the tremolo is going to be. If you want to have floating tremolo in standard tuning, tension of strings equals tension of the spring, they are in balance and tremolo is floating. to make it stiffer you can only put higher gauge strings which require more tension on spring to be in balance. Or put stiffer stronger spring.... And one very important thing people with this bridge should have on mind when tuning all strings, you should first lock the latch, loosen this main screw for spring, tune all strings, than release the latch. Then what happens your guitar will go out of tune a little so with spring screw you tighten it and it will go in tune.
Thanks for joining the conservation. You are absolutely right, the string and spring tension have to be equal, so if the spring is tighter there is more tension in it and you need more tension in the string to get the bridge to the correct position for making the tremolo seem harder to move.
Hi, I called this guitar ugly on a steinberger facebook group, but kinda regretting it... Here to set it straight! Any guitar who has had such attention is worth more than a factory produced one... In it's own steampunky way it may be a very very well tought trough piece, but I just was a little bit shocked at first by the looks, but it kinda grows on you (I visited the site and looks better in the pics then on the youtube video to me lol). I'm sorry for any owner and for the creator that I called his work ugly. I'm normally not one who disses on other peoples work... Especially when you can see it is built with passion. Just felt like I needed to set this straight ;)
That's very kind of you. It was actually commissioned by a band who have an aesthetic of weird voodoo like ancient magic stuff going on and I think calling it ugly isn't too offensive really. @@DevilAndSons currently just research, I like Floyd rose bridges and the jack locations on these headless guitars I didn't really know they could have tremelos or what the routes look like how to discern build quality I've just heard some good playing on them and wondered about compatibility getting a cheapy and putting in good hardware.

Thanks so much, and great to hear you are making unique things too. To be honest I find the process point really hard to decide upon. I started at a price compatible to a custom built guitar but didn't sell many, so reduced and sold more but didn't make much of a profit. Now I have a bigger reach and am more established I have gone back up to what I think is a reasonable amount compared to custom builds but as it's niche its a gamble finding the market and audience. Not really a helpful answer. I would suggest start by charging an amount based on how much profit you want, and make sure you are at least making some profit.

Great video! Can I ask if the tension spring being worn out would cause the whammy not to stay in tune? I mean like it goes 1/4 step or more out everytime I use it now. If so do you know where I can buy a replacement/ I have a Hohner G3T. Thanks.
I think that sounds like the cause, I'd expect it to not go back in tune if the spring wasn't tight enough. If there's no more space to tighten one option might be to put some washers on the tightening bolt so that the spring is compressed an extra amount from the start, does that make sense? It would give you more compression on the spring from the start and therefore may help. I'm afraid I'm not sure where to get spare parts though.

Sorry, I don't do either, and it will probably take me months to find the time to finish it. It needs a fret job, I've already dealt with the fret sprout and carved the handhold on the upper horn to fit the pinky and the thumb for holding the guitar aloft.

I have heard mixed things said about it. I must admit I haven't had one that I have used a lot for a long period as I've sold the guitars. They seem good on the usage I have given them. However the proper steinberger ones should be great long term, compared to the cheaper over lord of music (again, mixed reviews for the latter).
Can someone please tell me how I remove the top "floating" part of the bridge from the bottom? In the video he pulls it off without effort, but mine seems locked in place with the blades and pins, and I'm afraid to break it if I really pull. Anyone got any ideas?
ShadawGaming have you completely removed the screw with the thumb wheel that goes into the body from end of the guitar (I.e it goes in from where the strap pin would be and towards the neck in line with it)? That would be holding it in place. Once you’ve removed that it should just be the pressure of the spring, so slide the front backwards so it comes loose from the blades, then lift. You will need to apply enough pressure to compress the spring, perhaps you’re not quite pressing hard enough.If you’ve done that and it’s not working it could be the latch at the back that holds the bridge from floating. If that doesn’t help I’m not really sure why it’s stuck (unless it’s a different bridge model).

Thanks for commenting. Let me check the size when I'm in the workshop tomorrow, otherwise you can get the string locks at the headstock with screws quite cheap on Amazon. I'll find a link for that too.
They seem to be 4.5mm in diameter and are 6mm long. They actually appear to be quite a unique Allen key size as most of the ones I had didn't fit. I think you may be best buying a new headless nut and just using the grub screws from that instead of trying to buy the screws online.
I just did a headless guitar nut search on Amazon and they range from £5 - £12 gbp. Check the photos though as some take the ball end of the string and don't use grub screws at the end
awesome tutorial!! id like to ask of is your R-Trem ,it is hard to pull down? or its soft?, because i have the same trem and its reaally hard to pull down!!!, i think it may be the spring, can i change it? to a softer one or it has to be the same type?
That does sound like the spring will make a difference. It's hard on a trem that only has one spring. On a traditional strat type trem you can adjust that tension by changing the spring. You could try and get a different spring of the same size but if it's nit got enough tension it won't counter the strings well and won't set up properly. The other option is to play with a lighter gauge of strings.
Hi... First, thanks for this informative video. I just bought a Steinberger Spirit, and the tuning knobs are quite stiff, making it hard on the fingers to tune, never mind fine tune. Is there a way to make them more responsive, like maybe lubricating them? Or?
You can lubricate them, but some people use roller bearings. If you're on Facebook there is a great Steinberger group and they can definitely direct you to a good source to buy them. I put an extra set if washers on one spirit's fine tuners - that helped a bit.
Sorry not to be more specific about the bearings. That group os full of people much more knowledgeable on steinberger guitars than I, and I wouldn't want to recommend anything other than the best solution.

Hi I’ve just taken delivery of a steinberger spirit , tuned it and released the bridge and it dropped flat, the fine tuner didn’t work, gave it some whammy and the whole thing exploded bits everywhere , it’s put me right off keeping it to be honest think I’ll send it back
I am sure that whoever sold it will replace it, that really sounds like a faulty bridge. To be fair I've only worked on one steinberger spirit but I was very impressed the component quality. What a horrible thing to happen a Christmas.
Fantastic Video, I have insanely brought a guitar kit that probably cost way more than it should as it is a headless guitar kit, but I just wanted a challenge, I certainly got one! Instructions were at best Mmmmm Useless Lol. I had worked out the installation of the bridge to a certain extent, but this video explains it all in detail. Ha, that is great to hear. These bridges are weirdly complicated. I do like a good kit guitar but I've found most that I have tried don't even have instructions so you were lucky to get anything. I have a telecaster bridge video too.

So far I've swapped over the two single coils and pots for a set from a Fender Affinity as the kit ones self destructed after a cable pulled out! Anyway I'm not expecting it to sound as good or be as playable as my MIM strat. But its fun anyway. I don't understand why so many people hate the original neck end designed for double ball end strings. I could change the entire set of strings on my Steinberger/Hohner G2T in about 60 seconds, but with the single ball end neck adapter it makes it more of a hassle than on a standard headstock guitar.

Thanks so much, that's very kind. There's no reason that this type of bridge couldn't go on a baritone guitar which would deal with that tuning much better. However I assume you use those thicker strings already on standard scale length guitar fine, in which case I would imagine this bridge would be fine (I haven't tried). Also I think the cheaper bridges may not cope as well as there may not be enough flexibility in the spring, but possibly I'm wrong, and there are ways of adding washers to the bridge that would help with that. Honestly I can't tell you for certain as I haven't tried but my bet would be if you have managed with the strings you like to have the tuning you like on this scale guitar then a bridge like this would be fine if it wasn't the cheap version which may be risky.
@@DevilAndSons Got you, I could proceed cautiously. My main guitar is in standard and I used 10-46, but I want to have a special thing with my headless. Thought it was pretty cool that I could use thicker strings without issues on the headstock in comparison to a conventional guitar. No nut filing. As the main reason I use this one is for travel (no issue on planes) I'll be cautious, one step down should be good. I don't wanna break it :,(. Drop C# is good, maybe Drop C. I'll leave the two steps down tuning for another one with a bigger body.

Hey, Devil! Cud you tell me, if i think to install this kind of bridge in "non-tremolo-mode" - would it be sucsessfull to me? If i separate two parts of it and instal the tuning pegs and real bridge only?
Thanks for asking. I have installed a few where I have made them 'non-tremolo' but I find using all the parts of the bridge helps hold it. I install the first bit normally, don't use the spring, then I fill the gaps with wood to make it all level. Then on the top part I drill a hole through where the tremolo bar goes, one on each side as the tremolo can go on either side. Then I slot the top part on so it engages with the blades and screw it down through the holes I have drilled. I hope that makes sense. Do let me know if you come up with a different method.

Thanks for watching. I'll be honest the cheaper overlord of music bridge isn't brilliant so it may struggle, I've found it needs tightening a lot of the way sometimes for standard gauges. However you could drop some washers into the area where the spring is to compress it more in the first place which may help, I suggested this to someone else that was having issues and it worked for them. The bridge rout will depend on the scale of the guitar neck. What scale are you using?
I have another video explaining how scale length works and how you will need to position your bridge so 25.5" falls in the middle of the range if movement the saddles have, that way you can make strings both longer and shorter. Hey, I've found that after adjusting the action and intonation in mine, the low E string seems to go in and out of tune, very slightly but constant, it's mildly anoying. Does anyone have any idea what it might be ? It's only on the low E string, and happens also when I fret a note. My guitar is a Steinberg Spirit.
I wonder if the slot in the nut is too high. That may cause this problem. Unfortunately I don't have any videos yet about nuts and adjusting them to suggest a fix for this, or even to test this out. It could also be the string itself needs replacing or isn't tight enough in the saddle.

Just made quick video of an exercise/practice tool called a Shred Neck It's very well made, and good for practising legato, string skipping, or whatever in a car. It is not an instrument, and as it was ordered from an American company, i think it was 2013, I ended up paying a lot of import duties/taxes.. and it ended up costing £80. The last final view in my video is upside down, as when you use it the headstock is designed to rest on your leg , and if you noticed the slight scalloping near the nut→ that's to let you dig in with a pick. It's good for maintaining, building up hand strength. Hope you are doing ok Cheers John inHampshire ;~)
I guess tou could. My worry would be if you shortened it that thumb wheel bit you grab may not turn it as easily. I guess cut it at the end on the inside.
I'm afraid I don't have any online templates for this. It may be quite straight forward when you get one though to rout the base bit as it is designed to fit snugly into straight edge routs. You can measure the depth of the base part to match the depth you rout.
@Devil & Sons Sir I have a Strindberg Spirit headless guitar and at 19 min mark you are turning that larg knob under the tuners for fine tuning ? Mine is VERY stiff and acts like it doesn't want to turn is that normal ? only had the guitar for short time and don't know the characteristics of it yet.
It's possible it's tightened all the way. Does it not want to turn either way? Is there a screw driver slot in it to turn it with a driver instead of by hand? Sometimes this is easier - but be very careful, if it's tight it could be that the knob part you turn could break off, or that if it's over tightened it may cause something else to break. It shouldn't be too hard though - so that sounds a bit odd. Do you know if it's also hard to tighten when the strings are loose? The main point of this adjustment is pull the whole bridge into the right place for when you release the lock so the tuning stays the same as with the lock on - if you have your bridge floating all the time and don't lock it off then adjusting this doesn't really matter. It needs to have a certain amount of tightness to it to hold it all in place though.
@@DevilAndSons it has a screw driver slot. It will turn both ways but VERY stiff. It is sticking out near half inch. Not sure if hard to tighten when strings are loose.
@@Rob-qr2kn I would say that if the guitar is staying in tune when locked and unlocked in the floating position it's probably best not to mess with it, then when you change strings (or have time to loosen all the strings and re set up) you can check how easy it is to turn when there isn't any pressure on it which may cause something to snap. Not worth the risk now if there isn't any tuning or playing problem. I have noticed they do get quite stiff (in the video at the point you mentioned it was quite hard to turn). I'm not sure how helpful that was, but i hope it gives you some answer.
It could be many things. Are you using the same gauge strings as before? I would check the string height first, then the truss rod. I have another video on a full set up which covers both of those things: ua-cam.com/video/fvD-qsM3piQ/v-deo.html
If it isn't either of those things I'm very happy to keep chatting on here and see if we can work out what is, but normally one of those two adjustments will fix it.
ERIS what do you mean by headpiece? Do you mean just the nut with the string grips at the end of the neck where the tuning pegs normally are? If so try looking up “headless nut” on eBay or amazon, there should be a number of sellers.
ERIS the one I used in this video came with the bridge and was called “overlord” or “overlord of music” but I believe the same company make them unbranded. Again, I think eBay and Amazon is a good starting point to find them.

I have seen this tremolo on the asian direct sales sights for $59.99. It's normally sold with Overlord Of Music cast into the top of it. It actually appears to be a relatively well though out tremolo. Of course, it is a much cheaper copy of the Steinberger tremolo; without all of the functions of the Steinberger. Also, I wonder about the long-term use of it. Will it stand-up to constant use? Slayer, anyone? Just looking at this UA-cam video it appears to be pot-metal; not steel like a higher quality Kahler.
That's the same model. I agree, it's probably not as well made as a Steinberger (and it's slightly different) but I think it will still hold up pretty well toextreme play.

@@DevilAndSons It's a chinese version of the bridge, not so good but enough to get started. Your video clarified a lot of it, thanks. I believe depending on the guitar intonation the tension bolt also affects the action of the strings, so the bolt should be set at different tension depending on if you have an E tuning, a C tuning and so on. Sure you said it in the video, but I missed it.

Great video!!! I got that same kit (from China) and the instructions that came with it made that bridge seem like the most complicated thing since the space shuttle. Inspired by other youtube channels, I bought a Cherrystone headless guitar from Amazon; the only place in UK that one can get the Steinberger kit. Whilst the overall kit is appalling, there is nothing I cannot sort out. What really worried me about the whole project was how to set the intonation with that bridge. Your video was superb at covering every question I could have had.
I will begin the build after Christmas as I'm still waiting on some tools but I now feel very confident that I will be able to create a fantastic guitar with a very low action - your video was that 'missing link' I needed.

In case anyone reading this is interested and thinking about buying a headless kit. I have found that the routing for the two part bridge is very poor in that the general area for the chassis is routed out instead of a narrower channel with a cutout for the bridge locking mech. This means that two of the four bridge screws may not have enough wood to screw in securely leading, over time, to a catastrophic failure of the bridge fixture. I have bought a metal bracket to brace the bottom part of the chassis - I've left a comprehensive review and photos on Amazon.co.uk, under the name Leon Kowalski. I will update it once I begin my build to show images of the bracket in place too.

Thanks a lot. I have had a Steinberger Spirit for a long time, but never figured all the details out. I usually don’t use the tremolo, but it works now, and it sure is fun. The manual they come with don’t have all the information about the way to set it up.

Is it slipping because the bridge isn't exactly set up? If the bridge is in slightly the wrong position it may not engaged properly.When it's engaged, then pulled back does the tuning remain the same? If it does then the bridge is set up correctly. In that case the actual part the clip grips may need adjusting - if it can be, I don't think it can on the model I demoed here. Somehow you'd need to make the part it grips a bit wider perhaps,maybe a thin washer glued to it may make it thicker. I'm sorry not to be of help without seeing it. My first thought though is the bridge isn't quite set up in the right place.

Hello. Im the owner of a Steinberger spirit. Im having problem keeping the tremolo arm locked, with the Allen key. It locks the tremolo arm to a certain point. The the Allen key just goes around and around..Is this natural. I would appreciate some help.

From what I've read the thread at that part strips quite easily and a loose trem arm becomes a problem. I assume the tightness you have isn't quite enough for you. You may be able to wrap some plumbers tape (ptfe tape) around the base of the arm where it slots in to give it a tighter feel, and adjust the tightness with more tape.
How fortunate that the guitar is still playable, having survived the "Explosion"!!!!!

Dude!!! I have been looking for a detailed video of this tremolo, that was amazing!!! I was having my doubts about getting one of these, thank you very much for doing it..
Now I still have a few questions, so pls bear with me:
-About sound, this system it doesnt need to make more holes to the body so it has more wooden mass, and also the metal mass in the bridge looks bigger than a traditional trem, so, do u feel any sound difference/improvemenmt in the sustain or tone of the guitar based on only these characteristics?
-Have u heard of the TransTrem II? from steinberger? this model had the capacity of tune the guitar in 2 additional tones, 1 semitone or tone up and down i believe, do u think that this thingy could be modified to allow the trem to lock additional tunings? by just moving a locker or something? have u thought about it?
-How much room of tunning do u have left after locking all the strings? did it ever occured that u just reach the limit of the screw like in traditional floyd rose systems?
-Does it always go back to the same note after using the trem? is it soft or hard to do so?
- Does the trem's spring wears off? can anybody get replacements for that?
- About the saddles, the original trem has little rollers, does the trem action produce any sound? weird clicks or scratches?
- How did u cover the Overlod of music thing? with welding or just glue? or something like that?

-You do need to rout a space to fit this trem as it goes into the body, so some wood is removed. I have the view that some luthiers take which is the type of wood doesn't really make a noticable difference to the sound etc on an electric and I haven't noticed this bridge effect the sustain etc in that way.
- This system is quite basic, I'm not sure how you could adujst the bridge itself to make the easily adjusted one tone as each saddle is simply held in place by pressure from thos next to it, so moving one would move them all and to alter all the strings by 1 tone the saddles would all nedd to move different amounts. Perhaps you could do something at the nut end?
-You definitely reach the limit, but this can be avoided by how tight the strings are when you start tuning, so pull them as tight as possible to avoid this.
- I was quite impressed with the stability of the tuning considering the system, and didn't notice it going out of tune. Tremolos can have this issue more than a fixed bridge so I assume it will need as much regular tuning as most over floating bridges.
-I haven't noticed any clicks in the trem excpet when you are locking and unlocking it.
-I used a two part epoxy to simply stick something over the Overlord logo.

very nice informative video, but i noticed, at 6:08 you say the tighter the tension the stiffer the tremolo is going to be. If you want to have floating tremolo in standard tuning, tension of strings equals tension of the spring, they are in balance and tremolo is floating. to make it stiffer you can only put higher gauge strings which require more tension on spring to be in balance. Or put stiffer stronger spring.... And one very important thing people with this bridge should have on mind when tuning all strings, you should first lock the latch, loosen this main screw for spring, tune all strings, than release the latch. Then what happens your guitar will go out of tune a little so with spring screw you tighten it and it will go in tune.
Thanks for joining the conservation. You are absolutely right, the string and spring tension have to be equal, so if the spring is tighter there is more tension in it and you need more tension in the string to get the bridge to the correct position for making the tremolo seem harder to move.

Hi, I called this guitar ugly on a steinberger facebook group, but kinda regretting it... Here to set it straight!
Any guitar who has had such attention is worth more than a factory produced one... In it's own steampunky way it may be a very very well tought trough piece, but I just was a little bit shocked at first by the looks, but it kinda grows on you (I visited the site and looks better in the pics then on the youtube video to me lol).
I'm sorry for any owner and for the creator that I called his work ugly. I'm normally not one who disses on other peoples work... Especially when you can see it is built with passion.

@@DevilAndSons currently just research, I like Floyd rose bridges and the jack locations on these headless guitars I didn't really know they could have tremelos or what the routes look like how to discern build quality I've just heard some good playing on them and wondered about compatibility getting a cheapy and putting in good hardware.
The cheap bridges like this aren't really that good. But the original steinberger ones are definitely great.

Thanks so much, and great to hear you are making unique things too. To be honest I find the process point really hard to decide upon. I started at a price compatible to a custom built guitar but didn't sell many, so reduced and sold more but didn't make much of a profit. Now I have a bigger reach and am more established I have gone back up to what I think is a reasonable amount compared to custom builds but as it's niche its a gamble finding the market and audience. Not really a helpful answer. I would suggest start by charging an amount based on how much profit you want, and make sure you are at least making some profit.
Wish I knew about those string clamps on the bridge could fall out before I lost two of them! You covered it all.

Great video! Can I ask if the tension spring being worn out would cause the whammy not to stay in tune? I mean like it goes 1/4 step or more out everytime I use it now. If so do you know where I can buy a replacement/ I have a Hohner G3T. Thanks.
I think that sounds like the cause, I'd expect it to not go back in tune if the spring wasn't tight enough. If there's no more space to tighten one option might be to put some washers on the tightening bolt so that the spring is compressed an extra amount from the start, does that make sense? It would give you more compression on the spring from the start and therefore may help. I'm afraid I'm not sure where to get spare parts though.

Sorry, I don't do either, and it will probably take me months to find the time to finish it. It needs a fret job, I've already dealt with the fret sprout and carved the handhold on the upper horn to fit the pinky and the thumb for holding the guitar aloft.

I have heard mixed things said about it. I must admit I haven't had one that I have used a lot for a long period as I've sold the guitars. They seem good on the usage I have given them. However the proper steinberger ones should be great long term, compared to the cheaper over lord of music (again, mixed reviews for the latter).
Can someone please tell me how I remove the top "floating" part of the bridge from the bottom? In the video he pulls it off without effort, but mine seems locked in place with the blades and pins, and I'm afraid to break it if I really pull. Anyone got any ideas?
ShadawGaming have you completely removed the screw with the thumb wheel that goes into the body from end of the guitar (I.e it goes in from where the strap pin would be and towards the neck in line with it)? That would be holding it in place. Once you’ve removed that it should just be the pressure of the spring, so slide the front backwards so it comes loose from the blades, then lift. You will need to apply enough pressure to compress the spring, perhaps you’re not quite pressing hard enough.If you’ve done that and it’s not working it could be the latch at the back that holds the bridge from floating. If that doesn’t help I’m not really sure why it’s stuck (unless it’s a different bridge model).

Thanks for commenting. Let me check the size when I'm in the workshop tomorrow, otherwise you can get the string locks at the headstock with screws quite cheap on Amazon. I'll find a link for that too.
They seem to be 4.5mm in diameter and are 6mm long. They actually appear to be quite a unique Allen key size as most of the ones I had didn't fit. I think you may be best buying a new headless nut and just using the grub screws from that instead of trying to buy the screws online.
I just did a headless guitar nut search on Amazon and they range from £5 - £12 gbp. Check the photos though as some take the ball end of the string and don't use grub screws at the end

That does sound like the spring will make a difference. It's hard on a trem that only has one spring. On a traditional strat type trem you can adjust that tension by changing the spring. You could try and get a different spring of the same size but if it's nit got enough tension it won't counter the strings well and won't set up properly. The other option is to play with a lighter gauge of strings.

I just bought a Steinberger Spirit, and the tuning knobs are quite stiff, making it hard on the fingers to tune, never mind fine tune. Is there a way to make them more responsive, like maybe lubricating them? Or?
You can lubricate them, but some people use roller bearings. If you're on Facebook there is a great Steinberger group and they can definitely direct you to a good source to buy them. I put an extra set if washers on one spirit's fine tuners - that helped a bit.

Sorry not to be more specific about the bearings. That group os full of people much more knowledgeable on steinberger guitars than I, and I wouldn't want to recommend anything other than the best solution.

Hi I’ve just taken delivery of a steinberger spirit , tuned it and released the bridge and it dropped flat, the fine tuner didn’t work, gave it some whammy and the whole thing exploded bits everywhere , it’s put me right off keeping it to be honest think I’ll send it back
Was it a new one? That sounds like a serious problem and not a common one. You sound very very unlucky.

Fantastic Video, I have insanely brought a guitar kit that probably cost way more than it should as it is a headless guitar kit, but I just wanted a challenge, I certainly got one! Instructions were at best Mmmmm Useless Lol. I had worked out the installation of the bridge to a certain extent, but this video explains it all in detail. So far I've swapped over the two single coils and pots for a set from a Fender Affinity as the kit ones self destructed after a cable pulled out! Anyway I'm not expecting it to sound as good or be as playable as my MIM strat. But its fun anyway. There should be a hex bolt on the upper edge to clamp the intonators.
This one has a little Allen screw.
Do you put a lubricant on the tuners? I have the GT and the tuners are a bit stiff in comparison to my old G3T.

I don't understand why so many people hate the original neck end designed for double ball end strings. I could change the entire set of strings on my Steinberger/Hohner G2T in about 60 seconds, but with the single ball end neck adapter it makes it more of a hassle than on a standard headstock guitar.
I actually only used the double ball ends for a client recently for the first time, I was very impressed.

Thanks so much, that's very kind. There's no reason that this type of bridge couldn't go on a baritone guitar which would deal with that tuning much better. However I assume you use those thicker strings already on standard scale length guitar fine, in which case I would imagine this bridge would be fine (I haven't tried). Also I think the cheaper bridges may not cope as well as there may not be enough flexibility in the spring, but possibly I'm wrong, and there are ways of adding washers to the bridge that would help with that. Honestly I can't tell you for certain as I haven't tried but my bet would be if you have managed with the strings you like to have the tuning you like on this scale guitar then a bridge like this would be fine if it wasn't the cheap version which may be risky.
@@DevilAndSons Got you, I could proceed cautiously. My main guitar is in standard and I used 10-46, but I want to have a special thing with my headless. Thought it was pretty cool that I could use thicker strings without issues on the headstock in comparison to a conventional guitar. No nut filing. As the main reason I use this one is for travel (no issue on planes) I'll be cautious, one step down should be good. I don't wanna break it :,(. Drop C# is good, maybe Drop C. I'll leave the two steps down tuning for another one with a bigger body.

Cud you tell me, if i think to install this kind of bridge in "non-tremolo-mode" - would it be sucsessfull to me? If i separate two parts of it and instal the tuning pegs and real bridge only?
Thanks for asking. I have installed a few where I have made them 'non-tremolo' but I find using all the parts of the bridge helps hold it. I install the first bit normally, don't use the spring, then I fill the gaps with wood to make it all level. Then on the top part I drill a hole through where the tremolo bar goes, one on each side as the tremolo can go on either side. Then I slot the top part on so it engages with the blades and screw it down through the holes I have drilled. I hope that makes sense. Do let me know if you come up with a different method.

Thanks for watching. I'll be honest the cheaper overlord of music bridge isn't brilliant so it may struggle, I've found it needs tightening a lot of the way sometimes for standard gauges. However you could drop some washers into the area where the spring is to compress it more in the first place which may help, I suggested this to someone else that was having issues and it worked for them.
The bridge rout will depend on the scale of the guitar neck. What scale are you using?
I’ll be using 25.5 inch, which is what I assumed yours was. But I may have been wrong to assume haha
That is what mine was.
I have another video explaining how scale length works and how you will need to position your bridge so 25.5" falls in the middle of the range if movement the saddles have, that way you can make strings both longer and shorter. I'm afraid I can't remember exactly the size of the rout for this bridge though.

Hey, I've found that after adjusting the action and intonation in mine, the low E string seems to go in and out of tune, very slightly but constant, it's mildly anoying. Does anyone have any idea what it might be ? It's only on the low E string, and happens also when I fret a note. My guitar is a Steinberg Spirit.
I wonder if the slot in the nut is too high. That may cause this problem. Unfortunately I don't have any videos yet about nuts and adjusting them to suggest a fix for this, or even to test this out. It could also be the string itself needs replacing or isn't tight enough in the saddle.
@@DevilAndSons Thank you for your comment and quick reply. Really appreciate the video and the help. I think it was a bit loose in the saddle, i messed a little more with the action and it solved it, in case anyone else haves that issue. By the way, isn't there no nut since its a headless ??
There's still a nut as that's what helps line the strings up and set their height. Glad you have sorted the problem though.

Shred Neck
It's very well made, and good for practising legato, string skipping, or whatever in a car.
It is not an instrument, and as it was ordered from an American company, i think it was 2013, I ended up paying a lot of import duties/taxes.. and it ended up costing £80.
The last final view in my video is upside down, as when you use it the headstock is designed to rest on your leg , and if you noticed the slight scalloping near the nut→ that's to let you dig in with a pick.
It's good for maintaining, building up hand strength.

I guess tou could. My worry would be if you shortened it that thumb wheel bit you grab may not turn it as easily. I guess cut it at the end on the inside.

Hi, where can i find routing instructions to fit one of these?
I'm afraid I don't have any online templates for this. It may be quite straight forward when you get one though to rout the base bit as it is designed to fit snugly into straight edge routs. You can measure the depth of the base part to match the depth you rout.
@Devil & Sons Sir I have a Strindberg Spirit headless guitar and at 19 min mark you are turning that larg knob under the tuners for fine tuning ? Mine is VERY stiff and acts like it doesn't want to turn is that normal ? only had the guitar for short time and don't know the characteristics of it yet.
It's possible it's tightened all the way. Does it not want to turn either way? Is there a screw driver slot in it to turn it with a driver instead of by hand? Sometimes this is easier - but be very careful, if it's tight it could be that the knob part you turn could break off, or that if it's over tightened it may cause something else to break. It shouldn't be too hard though - so that sounds a bit odd. Do you know if it's also hard to tighten when the strings are loose?
The main point of this adjustment is pull the whole bridge into the right place for when you release the lock so the tuning stays the same as with the lock on - if you have your bridge floating all the time and don't lock it off then adjusting this doesn't really matter. It needs to have a certain amount of tightness to it to hold it all in place though.

@@Rob-qr2kn I would say that if the guitar is staying in tune when locked and unlocked in the floating position it's probably best not to mess with it, then when you change strings (or have time to loosen all the strings and re set up) you can check how easy it is to turn when there isn't any pressure on it which may cause something to snap. Not worth the risk now if there isn't any tuning or playing problem. I have noticed they do get quite stiff (in the video at the point you mentioned it was quite hard to turn). I'm not sure how helpful that was, but i hope it gives you some answer.

I just re strung my steinberger spirit for the first time and upon installing the low e it buzzes like crazy..do u know what the problem is?
It could be many things. Are you using the same gauge strings as before?

If it isn't either of those things I'm very happy to keep chatting on here and see if we can work out what is, but normally one of those two adjustments will fix it.

ERIS what do you mean by headpiece? Do you mean just the nut with the string grips at the end of the neck where the tuning pegs normally are? If so try looking up “headless nut” on eBay or amazon, there should be a number of sellers.

ERIS the one I used in this video came with the bridge and was called “overlord” or “overlord of music” but I believe the same company make them unbranded. Again, I think eBay and Amazon is a good starting point to find them.

I have seen this tremolo on the asian direct sales sights for $59.99. It's normally sold with Overlord Of Music cast into the top of it. It actually appears to be a relatively well though out tremolo. Of course, it is a much cheaper copy of the Steinberger tremolo; without all of the functions of the Steinberger. Also, I wonder about the long-term use of it. Will it stand-up to constant use? Slayer, anyone? Just looking at this UA-cam video it appears to be pot-metal; not steel like a higher quality Kahler.
That's the same model. I agree, it's probably not as well made as a Steinberger (and it's slightly different) but I think it will still hold up pretty well toextreme play.
