- I played Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, a Star Wars Age of Empires 2-like, and it was good! In this video I'll be playing through the Trade Federation Campaign, and the modded 'Phantom Menace' campaign.
Sorry if it's plastered with ads, this vid is fully claimed by Disney :(

I used to play this game on a terrible laptop when I was like 4 at my dad's office after school
I have absolutely no idea why this has popped up on my feed, but I'm so happy it did. Made my day ❤️
Hope you enjoyed the blast from the past!
Not only is this an AOE-like, it is the only other game to also use the AOE game engine. I was always much better at this game than AOE2. Although more likely the average player was just much less competent.
I really hope we get to continue this journey with you on the Galactic Battlegrounds, it's a trip of nostalgia with your greatly put together content on top of it. Keep it up !
Ah thank you! I was just thinking about playing this again today, had it pinned to my task bar ever since installing.
Have you tried expanded fronts?@@OffyDGG
It's funny that the impossible Gungan level in The Phantom Menace for PS1 was solved in the same way, by slaughtering the Gungans.
This is an amazing game. I spent so many hours playing the map builder as a teenager.
The size of the maps always blew me away, especially the intro map for Attack of the Clones, where you have to navigate around Geonosis and it is a gigantic battlefield.
I must admit, my best rated Star Wars game is 100% The Phantom Menace on PS1. Simply amazing running around on Tattooine, exploring Mos Espa. It's such a perfect sandbox.
Every once in a while during the year I look on UA-cam to see any good content for this nostalgic game. Thank you for bringing something new to the levels I know almost like the back of my hand!
Ah yes, I do remember when Obi-Wan committed a bit Jen O'Side against the Gungans when they failed to explain their mysterious button-based-puzzle door culture... in the original script treatment.
Too bad Lucas had to cut it for it time.
Please do more of this! I want to see you play more of the campaigns.
Ah, general Devin
What a unique game. I loved AoE2 back in the day.
Skirmish games really are a whole different beast for that kind of game but I loved that about them.
The Expanding Fronts mod also makes it a great game.
Adds new factions, tweaks several more (like separating the Separatists from the Geonosians), and throws stuff in from both Disney and Legends canon to make it accessible to either camp.
If I could make a couple factions, I would throw in the Republic and Sith Empire from SWTOR, the Mandalorians (amalgamated from Disney and Legends canon), the Yuuzhan Vong, Boba Fett’s gotra, and the Sith Eternal.
I would make a submod that removes all the Disney stuff.

I just treat them as alternate timelines… like Star Trek’s “Prime” timeline versus its “Mirror” and “Kelvin” timelines.
Yes, I'm just being cantankerous.
If I play this mod, I'll pretend the "First Order" is some distant breakaway of the Imperial Remnant. And the "Resistance"? I don't know, just a Rebel Alliance re-skin maybe?
I like your version of the Phantom Menace more, lol.
I saw the release of this video right before going to bed. Then I dreamed about it. I dreamed you made it extremely about gungans. Now, in the morning, I thought it had all been a dream, so its existance is very pleasing
Blast from the past seeing this game pop up, glad you enjoyed it!
I'm so excited to see you playing this game. It's so under-appreciated and I hope you come back to it.
Excuse me, while I'm absolutely going to devour this content.
Devin playing a game I loved when I was 8 Holy crap!
I played Galactic Battlegrounds a lot when I was younger. Eventually, I migrated to the mother-game, Age of Empires 2 - and that's still in development to this day, with regular patches releasing. Nowadays, there are a lot more QoL-features in AoE2, than there were back then, as well as keybind options - so, going back to SWGB is hard, when you suddenly lack all these things.
Imagine if they just ported all the Qol updates over.
17:10 nothing scripted happens if you go there, but the heroes are all Gaia so you can have them join your faction. There's also an underwater Bongo off the coast.
lol this is so cool, i love the boats
one of the best ageofempireslike commentary campaigns on YT. i like the nonstop talking as well, it bothers me when other YT'ers leave dead silence
Brings back memories. I was very bad and used cheats during every mission
I love how well you nailed the "hello there"
Wow I'm surprised and I approve. I love(d) this game tbh, and I still play it sometimes.
i played this so much, it being a conversion of AOE 2 is in fact a good thing
YESSS. Finally someone else that has played this game other than my brothers and I lol
A legendary game, I too never knew anyone else who played it for many years, and the world doesn't know what they missed!
Never heard of this title. What a gem.
An old classic, i still think about playing it more, had a lot of fun with it
More of this please!
LOL I haven't seen this video before, so I'm just responding now. I'm the one who made the Phantom Menace campaign. Seeing how you forced your way through Otoh Gunga is hilarious. All you had to do in that room you spent so much time in was just talk to the guards by clicking on them, which triggered a cut-scene to allow you in the prison area. This is actually a remake of the TPM campaign I made back in like early 2002 (of which had 10 scenarios). I only remade the first 2 levels and Otoh Gunga was expanded on with this scenario, when originally it was just a cut-scene before going through the planet core. As one of the lead devs to Expanding Fronts, I've been too busy to finish it, but hope to work on it again later this year. From the looks of things, I'll also need to fix some exploits and give more hints in easy mode.
Nice. I guess for whatever reason I never discovered that. Seems like I must have tried it, but maybe not! Got through somehow :D I'd say leave the exploit in, it's more fun that way! anyway, nice work on the mod in general, very useful and enjoyable, I will find an excuse to go back and play another campaign sometime since I remember it fondly. Thanks!
It's crazy that you can force it the same way as in TPM by killing all the Gungans. Did you design it that way on purpose?
Goddammit I still have 6 hours of work left and this pops up. Now Ill be distracted for the rest of the day haha
Nice!

You can make that Jar Jar vs Darth Maul dream a reality in the custom map maker. Forget the specific name 😅
Do you do commentary for a large channel? Voice is familiar :)
Oh lord and saviour Devin, I must bring forth a question I have thought of in the most recent 1.2 seconds. Would you consider doing co-op campaigns once more? I enjoyed the ones with MrSmartDonkey and just had the thought. So are they dead and buried or is there a possibility of a resurrection?
Pretty much dead, scheduling was hard and these days it isn't the sort of content I want to make anyway. I tend to play a small amount each day and gradually get enough footage to make a video in the end, which is hard to fit in with other people's schedule. That and I am very anti-social!
That’s understandable mate, always love your content; especially if you’re enjoying playing it
Is this the Kings and Generals guy? He sounds identical.
yeeesssss
Will you play more?
I want to do some more yeah, just so many other things to play as well, waiting for some kind of craving to pull me back to this classic :D
you sound like kings and generals
Maybe finally play starcraft? It could be fun as I remember you saying you've never played it. A good rts for a change.
It's on the radar - I play things pretty slow but yeah I want to check it out
I will say that starcraft 2 is probably a more fun experience, especially for new players and explains the story pretty well even if you haven't played the first games. Great games, but they have definitely aged when it comes to unit selection and pathfinding. Plus, the first campaign is free so... Nothing to really argue about there.
I think you can also get the entire first game plus brood war for free on blizzard's site, though it doesn't run well on modern systems. The enhanced edition for starcraft is really just a quality of life change to get it to run well and in good resolution.
Just something to keep in mind when you eventually try it out.
Thanks! Yeah I think I went and saw it for free on their site, I probably actually installed it, my pc is a mess :D
SC/BW:R still has scuffed pathfinding for sure. They struggled to hire a programmer to help with the remaster, which is pretty incredible.
That said, SCII's engine has never been surpassed for unit control. My goodness that engine, up until max supply vs max supply in 2v2/4v4, is incredibly smooth. Even the recent AOE4 is pants compared.
Hopefully Stormgate can do the old base-build/resource collect/macro/micro right with their own engine.
