If only we could have another "Leave Scars". Please reform and record another album of music for your die hard fans. There are so many of us !!! Long live Dark Angel !!!
100% agree, but it was kinda funny to see Gene miss his entrance fill after Jim started the first riff. You can see Mike looking over at Gene like, “Where are you, Gene?” at the 01:30 mark.
Jim Durkin and Gene Hoglan... the greatest thrash metal writing team of the 80s! It's a tragedy for the music world they aren't still making music together!
Coming out to that intro with gene back there in the shades, all the guys in matching denim vest, Hair that would make a L'Oreal commercial wonder what they're doing wrong.. This is the coolest any band has ever looked.. Ever!
This guy made my day. I was in the front row at the Chubby Bear in Chicago. I held the horns high and he looked at me and smiled and gave the horns high to me. To a 14 year old kid that was heaven.
speaking about gay, start watching this video at 2:23 and the way the lead yeller is strutting across the stage. trying to show off his man breast. this guy is gay all the way. dude nothing about this is music. the guitars are doing one thing and drums another and a guy yelling in a mic. i'm not a big rap or hip hop fan but i can name a 100 hip hop songs that have more talent in the first 3 notes. also i'm not a big Metallica fan either but those guys have talent. even tho i don't like Metallica music i still can recognizes talent. serious dude groups like these you and i can can replace any lead singer. i'm sure we could yell in them mic just as good. but i know i can't strut like him. LMAO
"90% of hip hop is stolen samples of metal music" lol what the fuck? are you seriously? First of all they pay for the rights of the sample. Second most of hip hop being made today barelly use samples. Third stop hating other genres just cause you can't relate. Fourth shut the FUCK UP!
riff after riff after riff after riff.....and all of em' killer! As savage and uncompromising as thrash gets. This is integrity, purpose, and a band playing straight from the depths of their blackened souls, as much sonic carnage as you'll ever see on a stage! Saw em' many times and never felt more alive-shout out to Mr. Eric Meyer, a helluva musician and an even better dude!
I seen them the first time 1990. California Theater in San Diego. They killed it then. They opened for Testament. I was in 11th grade then. I am 47 now and still jam to them on a regular.
i was always amazed he remembered all the words!!! As a kid i was dumbfounded by these guys they must have been the most extreme band that actually had a coherent lyrics and music....where are they now?
Gene Hoglan was originally a roadie for Slayer, and even tried out to be their drummer when Dave first left.No doubting Slayers intensity and longevity, but Dark Angel have the edge for pure speed and technical skill!
I always thought that DARK ANGEL never made it big because everybody around them were afraid of these infernal beasts of perfection!!! (meaning other bands that played in the same venue).
Dude.... This was one of my favorite bands back in high school. This band was in cass. Player when I was getting ready for my high school football games. Death is certain ... Life is not!!!!!!
I saw them about two weeks later at The Stone in San Francisco. To this day...oh so many years later, I still talk about how badass they were...and how BIG Gene was. I had seen a lot of metal bands by 89- but Gene was a whole different breed. Funny, I hardly recall seeing Death or Sadus that night. Pestilence also played. Pits were so much different. Oh-I didnt mention- I had never heard The Immigrant Song before Leave Scars came out.
Nice to see Good Ole Thrash Metal. I am honored to say that I would hang around with these these guys back in the late 80's. I would go to the City of Vernon in an industrial building and see them rehearse. Armored saint and Megadeth would also rehearse there,; Megadeth moved out once they got big like in 87 or 88. I was also part time roadie for another punk band called Lucky 7 (crazy ass Dino "Iswear to God I do not shoot up,dude) located at the same bldg.Good crazy old memories.Gene Rules.
Jesus fuck!! I haven’t heard this since the 80’s. Why did I wait so long to come back? Total badassery. Can’t fuck with Dark Angel. Them bitches is for real!
I was at this show... Brutal as all hell!!! No posers, no karate kicking saggy baggy pants nu-wanna be douche bags, and metalheads were friggin' militant!!!
I met Gene Halloween 1986 South Gate Park California Gene was the master of ceremonies for the local thrash bands performing that night, sorry about the riots man, cops started it
Dark Angel - the most underrated, over looked band ever. These guys should've been on top of the world during the 90's
Nah more like 80s
These guys make Metallica sound like a church band. They fucking rock
Their last 2 albums were goddamn impressive- Gene Hoglan is the GOAT
They are too heavy to be on top 😢
@@paulocesarbarragannicasio7572 Thats right brother!! 🤘
Jackson guitars are the thrash guitars !
And Speed Metal along with Hammer...
Charvel/Jackson.
Epiphone...
This is crazy. I grew up around Ron because we went to the same church.. 20 years later I found out he was in a band this big and that's crazy! He's an awesome guy
Which was where. Where was that at. Ron was a better vocalist than the guy on Darkness Decends. And he seems like such a cool guy!

Fully agreed...grew up with this band. Talk about state of the art speed metal. They were the highest standard around
100% agree, but it was kinda funny to see Gene miss his entrance fill after Jim started the first riff. You can see Mike looking over at Gene like, “Where are you, Gene?” at the 01:30 mark.
Fuck yea I remember hearing back then. Raw energy kick ass metal
Completamente ragione.
They were simply too badass and heavy for most. Ahead of their time. Brutal.🤘🏻
Now that's a fucking frontman right there!
He is the meaning of the frontman...Man I saw him in a gig he is huge like a fridge....no joke....And totally thrashing voice...he still has it...
@@ΚωνσταντίνοςΚωνσταντίνου-θ1ψhe's fking yoked brother. One of the beefiest frontmen if not the most I've ever seen
fun fact.... gene is the reason lombardo is as fast as he is, also... got him playing double bass too... thanks gene!
The fact is Gene was roadie for Slayer. He was just a kid. But he was way faster than Dave in the beginning
Gene takes credit for many things he probably had nothing to do with.. like daves drumming and chucks songwriting
@@Diesel0807 well you cant argue about it when Dave openly admits that Gene raised his bar and speed in interviews.
3:55 the precision on that break, and how heavy it sounds when they come back in

Awesome and Jackson guitars. Quality band and guitars and then there's Gene!!
Jim Durkin and Gene Hoglan... the greatest thrash metal writing team of the 80s! It's a tragedy for the music world they aren't still making music together!
My God, those riffs go by fast, and Gene Hoglan is a monster on the drums!
Seeing them in two weeks so fkn stoked!!!

Love how the intro is the beginning of "Darkness Descends".
thrash metal in an unmeasurable quantity
i seen these guys early 90's California theater, San Diego California. opened for Testament. same line up. these old shows were the fucking best.
That was my first metal show! Such a rager.
This guy made my day. I was in the front row at the Chubby Bear in Chicago. I held the horns high and he looked at me and smiled and gave the horns high to me. To a 14 year old kid that was heaven.
Dark Angel: faster, heavier, gnarlier.
80s. Thrash, death ,speed ,and hardcore!!!! RULE!! PERIOD. Not like the Bullshit today.

My God...the energy!
An absolute assault on all of your senses.... badass.
You really can't play any faster or more precise than this. At times it borders on anarchy, but they never lose the temp.
Gene Hoglan is a monster.
I thought Death Angel was all about the Thrash, until I find out about Dark Angel
Death Angel are excellent musicians, but they play heavy pop music, not thrash metal!
Death Angel thrash mix funky music
I was 14 years. I bought leave scars in 89. I was fucking hyperventilated first time i listen to it. lol
Senor Marcelo I agree that's what they're doing now, but The Ultra Violence is pretty much the quintessential thrash album. It's magnificent
@Blood Eagle 88 Yeah, and so is justin bieber!
RIP guitarist Jim Durkin...
Damn I missed those days of good old thrash metal....

I was at this, and I am film here up front, this was Oct 23, 1988, not 1989, at the troc in Philly...thrash or die!!
