I enjoyed this version of Romeo and Juliet with it being modern but they were still speaking in old English. All the actors and actresses were great in their roles.

Does anyone think the police still would have shot at him even though he had a hostage?

Will you ever upload all scenes of the movie, please, or are you too afraid of copyright law to do so?

EXACTLY WHAT IM SAYING!!! The old English just isn’t very fitting. Especially since it’s supposed to be modern.

@CertifiedNY_Y I mean they could've just kept everything modern. The English wasn't even the main thing. Idk why they kept that the same. They could've done athe og old version with an American modern accent and gotten away with it but not doing a modern thing and speaking olden English.

The idea for this movie is cool. Unfortunately, the movie itself came out pretty lame. The acting of the protagonists is very poor, specially Romeo... camera work is mediocre, the backdrop hasnt exploited its potential. Realizing such a movie demands high skills and experience. I dont know how they believed, casting some kids was the solution... I would give this movie a 6/10.

Tarintino might have been able to do it.

@@ceresbane yeah, true. Such artistic theatre with heavy conversations would have been tarentinos speciality. But the story isnt. He wouldnt have picked such a melodramatic story without strong characters.

I too loathe Baz Lurhman's direction just as much as you do and agree that as a whole this movie is just ass, however as far as his movies go, this wasn't SO bad. I mean you gotta give due credit to it's original choices - i was actually quite impressed with how they managed to incorporate guns in the story, i had no idea how they were gonna achieve Tybalt's death considering it was originally a sword fight but i did not expect it to be so good. Leo is a hit or miss at times but when it comes to acting for emotional scenes, he just hits a home run EVERY TIME. Claire Danes acted her butt off as well and their chemistry was "bearable" but i think the main issue was the dialogue delivery; you could argue it doesn't have the same effect when spoken in an American accent. Having said that, i have a sneaking suspicion they didn't study the text enough to understand how the characters should be feeling 'cause it's often spoken very plainly and with no element of playfulness or passion or excitement. And little things here and there like how they made Juliet wake up just as Romeo drank the poison which just makes the scene all the more tragic is a great addition to the story. Honestly if we're talking about chemistry alone, i think the 2013 version did a worser job. Like yea, they were both ridiculously hot, but they altered the script entirely and there was ZERO chemistry or emotion; i cringed hard watching the death scene, seriously nothing at all to report, it was that bad. Directing i would drop to a 4/10 and not a point higher but i can't bring myself to hate the whole job the team had done. Just dial down the flashiness of L.A. and the quirky zooms and fish eye lens moments

I agree with you, but I think they made Romeo and Juliet young because in Shakespeares original play, Romeo and Juliet are basically kids cause that was normal 500 years ago. But since this is supposed to be “modernized” I feel like they could’ve done a better job with it.
They could’ve made the English modern. Like seriously, I understand it’s supposed to correlate to the play but since is modernized there’s no need for it to be old English, it just doesn’t make any sense, especially for students watching this. It just makes the acting bad and it’s just corny. Yk?
Instead of just being lazy af they can make the dialogue make MORE SENSE so the movie can actually be interesting and make more sense. Old English just isn’t fitting or good.
